[home sweet home] returning to your world ; meme

You wake up in your bed, maybe. Somewhere. Somewhere you know.

Familiar scents fill your nose, the scents of home. You get up and look around and you come to a stunning, breath-taking (and sickening?) realization. You're home again. Somehow, just now, you were whisked away from that strange place you were, for however long you lived there, with how many people you came to know, and plunked down in your home, your own world. The bubble popped and now you're left wondering... was that even real? Could it have been?

What do you do now?

The phone's ringing. Maybe you should answer that.

How To Play

- Comment to the thread with your character. It will be their "world" they've returned to.
- Other people comment to them, reconnecting or awakening next to them in that home world.
- The where, when, setting & that sort of thing are up to you!
- Freak out, panic, try to figure what to do next.

Bonus:

- Work in a time difference, Lake House style!
- Is something off about this home world? Is it even really yours?

[It's worrying. This whole thing is, but her lack of response most of all. Still, he doesn't have much of a reason to stick around and chances are she'll need the space just as much as he does. So, with another gentle squeeze around her shoulders, he heads out to stock up.

Some 40 minutes later he returns, bearing gifts in the form of cigarettes and low-to-no-preparation food. Crackers, noodles, cup o' soup, some fruit and chocolate - whatever he could think of that made for a good nibble. There were plenty of places close by if they wanted a proper meal, but for now he was just happy if he could get her to eat. ]

I'm back.

[He nods at the thanks, leaving her to it for now. The lack of sleep is starting to get to him, but that's nothing new and there are more important things at play here. He takes a seat at the table, rubbing his fingers over his eyes in an attempt to focus. Brushes a hand back through his hair.

Where does he start? This isn't just some case with a clear beginning, or a mystery wrapped in an underwater prison (which, for the record, he had plenty of data on but no actual solutions). This is just one girl stranded in a world that isn't her own. Stripped of a large chunk of her identity. Someone he cares about, someone he needs to help in any way he can.

Where do you even start..?

[Her head tips and leans against the window, staring out without really looking at anything. She just feels...empty. Useless. She wants to do more. Reassure him. She can tell he's worried. She can feel him behind her, watching over her, but still she stands and stares. She can't quite turn thought into action.

The fingers not holding the cigarette brush lightly over the screen. Again, she tries to phase. Again, there's nothing. She puts the cigarette between her lips, holding it there and reaches down to lift up the screen as well.]

[For a while he's too caught up in his own weary thoughts to really pay much attention to her, but the noise of the screen being lifted snaps his thoughts to what she's doing like the crack of a whip. Suddenly there's ice-cold fear scratching at his insides - she wouldn't, right? Of course she wouldn't, why was this even a thought, and still he can't just leave it be because he doesn't know.

He's never seen her like this before.]

I was so scared when the headaches finally went away because I was using my power. Mutants were the ones forming armies to go after us. But then I wasn't us anymore. I was one of the monsters. 	No. It didn't. I was always a mutant. I just didn't know it. I tried to hide it. I was afraid of what would happen if anyone found out, but back then I couldn't always control it. I'd start falling through things or hit something I meant to pass through. It was worse when I was nervous or afraid. ...I was so afraid. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Then they came for me. They detected a mutant. They killed my parents because they were in the way.

They might not have died. Some humans escaped the cullings. The Infinites were there to cut down as many as possible. They didn't waste much time going after strays. Maybe they would have been some of the lucky ones. But they weren't because their daughter was a mutant.

I escaped though. I slipped through a wall and just ran. I didn't stop running until my legs gave out. And then I just fell and cried. That's when I realized monsters could cry too.
