The year 2609, five hundred years since the human race was forced to leave Earth-that-was. Polution and overpopulation had made the small planet uninhabitable. Its resources were used up. Thus, its people were forced to abandon it.

To outer space they moved, farther than they first surmised was possible to travel. The humans settled on alien planets, found many of them capable of sustaining a human ecosystem. Over the years, the planets became something of modern day countries, with their own rulers, cultures and economies. And, like the countries that once existed on Earth-that-was, some of the more influential and large planets sought to control other, smaller planets. Wars were fought, people were either killed or enslaved.

It's really no different than life in 2009.

Science has come a long way since the inferior iPods and Wii's of the twenty-first century. An experimental drug two hundred years in the making remained one of the galaxy's biggest secrets. Until the year 2563, that is. After endless experimentation, a new drug called Starshine became available to those who could afford it and to those whom the scientists felt were worthy.

This drug, if injected into a woman's abdomen during her first trimester, would give that child the unmistakable characteristics of a character of folklore, mythology, and, yes, even fairy tales from long ago, when humans still occupied Earth-that-was. A little "fairy dust", the scientists said, would make these children extraordinary. This drug would bring these once-beloved characters to life.

Of course, these naive and greedy scientists couldn't have anticipated the side-effects the wrong combination of "fairy dust" could cause. Some of the injected offspring grew into adulthood and became villains. They learned the nature of this special drug and sought to covet it for their own. The world would be a better place without all the goody two-shoes, they said. A world of nasty ne'er-do-wells would be much more satisfying.

Nearly fifty years later, these villains still seek to control this drug. But where is it hidden? The scientists, fearing their creation might eventually be stolen one day, were very discreet when they offered the injections. No one knew the true location of their facility. Yet many venture to seek it out.

A futuristic battle of good versus evil - with a twist.

In STARSHINE & FAIRY DUST, you play a futurized version of a classic character from a fairy tale, folklore or mythology. You choose where your loyalties lie. Will you fight in the upcoming war brewing among the most powerful planets? Do you seek to covet the Starshine drug? Maybe you just make your way through space on your own, neutral to all. The choice is yours.
