Every citizen of Harmony remembers a wonderful existence. They’ve lived a good life, and they love their home. After all, what is not to love? Harmony is a beautiful place. It has a bustling city, far bigger than one might think. Wonderful shops, corporate buildings, a state of the art Hospital in the center of the city, a brand new FBI headquarters. It’s a really large city, and it has a thriving nightlife. Most younger characters will live in town, in one of the many apartments. Some places are nicer than others, but mostly, it is a really nice place. On the outskirts of the city are the suburbs. The houses are beautiful and luxurious, the lawns perfectly manicured. They’re quiet, sure, but they were a great place to grow up. Most characters have moved out by now, but if their parents are still alive, they might still be living there. Perhaps if your character is going to marry soon, they might dream of moving into the burbs, to start a family. Around Harmony, there are many notable locations. The beach is beautiful, a massive stretch of pure white sand and bright water. It’s almost tropical in appearance, with warm clear waters and palm trees. On the other side of the city, there is a dense woods. Some characters might have a cabin in the dark expanse of trees, or perhaps they like to go camping. Weather in Harmony is usually notably mild. Neither hot nor cold, just bearable in all seasons. There are some notable exceptions, and weather can get treacherous, but players will be warned of that in advance. All in all, Harmony is a wonderful place. There is little crime, and most people are nice, if not a little detached. For more information about some locations around Harmony, click here. Your new family… For every character, their family will be different. Some homes will be better than the next, some with more money, some with more love, some with more interest. But all in all, your family in Harmony will be loving. You are allowed to make up whatever backstory you life for your character’s parents, uncles, cousins. They are even allowed siblings, but if you are to receive a sibling supplant, you will have to collaborate with your new sibling. The thing to remember is that your character’s parents, relatives, and family, are NPCS. It is impossible for you to know whether they are part of the experiment or in over the heads along with your character. Because of this fact, it is absolutely important to keep home life rather mild – the doctor has created Harmony to be a quiet, happy place. And your character’s family has to reflect that. All family was born in Harmony, whether they remain there or not. ALLOWED: Dead parent or parents (died peacefully or from an illness, but their going should be not traumatic unless it is ingame). Divorced parents. Overly strict relatives. Detached parents, or overly attentive parents. Parents that have moved away from Harmony. NOT ALLOWED: Abusive parents, either towards your character or towards each other. Parents that abandon children, emotionally or physically. Parents that are addicted, alcoholic, ect. Lawless parents. Your new memories… Your character will have plenty of memories from Harmony. They will remember their family, and have memories of interacting with them, for better or worse. You are welcome to be as detailed with your character’s backstory as you like. Along with their memories of their family, they will remember going to school (and for younger characters, still being in it). Characters will have memories of either going to Harmony High, the public school, or a private school (Lincaster Academie for Cultured Young Ladies for females, Preston Academy for males). They can recall any sorts of memories from school – being on a sports team, on a school club, friends they had. Characters who are old enough are able to have graduated from Harmony University, which seems to have no restrictions on a degree excluding, of course, Medical degrees of any sort. Your character will remember the friends and people they have run into during their life in Harmony, and because of that, you may integrate another character into your character’s backstory without needing a supplant. However, some memories may be confusing. Characters of the same age might remember going to highschool but never running into another. There is more flexibility with the memories of your personal character. Their past will reflect what kind of person they are – a more socially detached character will be involved with less extra-corricular activities, have less friends. A more socially outgoing character will be the opposite. Your new occupation… Your character’s new occupation also lends some flexibility. The only requirement is that it not be too close to their occupation in canon. Example, Seto Kaiba is a CEO of a toy company in Yuugioh’s canon history. Therefore, he would not be able to run any big company. Something in the same vein is allowed, however – he could work in a business, or be an entrepreneur, but not on such a massive scale. Your character’s occupation might come from something that is natural to them. If your character has an interest in something in canon, perhaps it translated into a new job. Gregory House of House MD fame is a notable fan of music in the series, and has found new life as a music teacher at the university. The only thing strictly not allowed for any character is any sort of medical occupation. From nurses to doctors, it’s strictly prohibited. Even psychiatrists are out of the running due to the fact that they can write prescriptions. The Network Characters have multiple ways to communicate with each other. For instance, they have internet, phones, and all normal forms of communication. If you would like your character to use one of these communication forms, you can create an entry describing the venue and the recipient in the title and the message in the entry, like so. Characters can also mail each other things in a similar fashion, like so. Aside from that, Harmony has a system of journals that each citizen has. Everyone is connected through them. While your character can private things to other characters, keep in mind that it can be hacked by computer-savvy characters, and they are easily accessible by the Watchers. Journals can be accessed by a computer or a cell phone. Memory Supplants You can have many types of memory supplants with other characters. They’re pretty straight forward, but for prosperity sake, a description of each are provided below. Memory supplants are generally applied at the beginning of your stay in Harmony, but in some cases, new ones are added at the Doctor’s office. To start, you’ll only have one memory supplant. They might be added or even changed as the game proceeds. New memory supplants will surface as gameplay goes on, but beginners will receive one of the above choices. When it comes to removing supplants, don't assume that this would be at all easy. If there is no trigger in your characters' life, it's highly unlikely they would question much at all, besides feeling a little unsettled. It is a very slow process -- after all, the character is not supposed to break out at all. There are things that would make it easier to break out of a supplant. Interacting and meeting characters that contradict the supplant they have. For example, meeting their cannon lover in the streets when they are engaged to someone else, or seeing their cannon friend when their lifelong buddy is right next to them. However, this is mental turmoil that would likely last weeks, months, perhaps even years. Your characters will not meet and automatically remember each other. there are things in place that prevents them from even wanting to remember. Your characters should not be able to automatically remember someone, or have too much 'deja vu' and remember everything about their past life. There are things that would speed up the process, excluding exterior triggers. For example, a person that is highly intelligent will slowly begin to question, where as a more simple-minded character would not think or question as much. A curious, inquisitive character will think things through and question their surroundings more. Phrases, images, similar looking people to their old life will bring your character confusion and help them to begin to feel uneasy. To finish, a character has been given memories of an entire life that are false. But they cannot remember anything else. Imagine the mental, emotional, and physical turmoil a person would go through. This is not something that they can snap their fingers and be over with. To read more about supplants, please click here. To look at the supplants currently in play, please click here. Injections There are many different types of injections, used to further the experiment. There is no way for you to refuse the injection, and your character will not understand that the injection is the cause of the proceeding issues, at least initially. More injections will be introduced as gameplay goes on. You are allowed to request an injection for your character, but it is up to mod approval. Not everyone will have one at the same time, and sometimes, the whole game will have the same one. As with memory supplants, injections can be stacked. There might be a time when patients can administer these drugs to themselves, but for now, mods will choose which injection you will get. You can request a certain injection for your character, but it might be refused. Many more types of injections will be introduced, and usually the start of a new strain will be introduced in a few characters at a time. In such cases, the injections will be kept private between players, to make things a little more interesting. The strains listed here are public strains, and it will be known if your character has said strain. When given an injection, you’ll get an OOC reminder of how long this injection may last. It is your choice how your character reacts to the injections, but you cannot ignore side affects (Your character can’t be chaste if they have Type A, for example). It’s your choice how long the strain will last, whether it’s the full time period or just a day or two. In certain cases, mods will tell you how long said strain will last, but it will generally be your choice. In some cases, an injection will not be removed until an antidote is given. That may be given at the Doctors Office or in an OOC manner. When you receive an injection, please read up on the symptoms and side effects to fully understand how your character should react. Injections are administered at the Doctor's Office. More information about the different injections can be found here. |
