Welcome to Harmony

First and foremost, welcome to Harmony.

You undoubtedly have some questions and concerns. I’m here to answer them for you. Hopefully your fears will be put at rest, but really, you can’t expect all the answers. What fun would it be if you did?

We selected you, hand picked you, from your world. We have a reason for it, of course – perhaps it was your personality, your intelligence, your power, your strength. Whatever that reason might be, we chose you, and it’s not something you can avoid. You should be flattered, really. We wouldn’t have brought you here if we didn’t think you were very, very important.

Now that you’re here, there are a few things that you might like to know.

First and foremost – you are part of a giant experiment. Exactly how vast, we can’t tell you. But it would probably hurt your head just to think about it. We chose you for a very good reason, and we know that you will prove immensely helpful. Don’t worry, we take very good care of our test subjects. Mostly.

Another thing that might interest you. Those memories, those dear memories you hold onto so firmly. Of family, of friends. Of things you loved, of people you hated. See, those will only complicate the process. You really don’t need them. So we’re taking them away. All those bad memories won’t haunt you anymore. No need to thank us, really.

But we’re not selfish. We wouldn’t just take something any not give anything back. We’re going to give you a whole new life, a whole new existence. A new family, one that loves you. Perhaps just memories of a family, we’re not perfect. After all, it wouldn’t be realistic if everyone still had a mother and father floating around! Oh, don’t worry, though. The memories will always be good ones. We’ll give you a new life, a new childhood, a new memory. New friends, new acquaintances. Oh, dear, don’t be scared. It’s not something you can stop. Don’t worry your little head, all we have to do is – well. That’s rather private information, but rest assured, it won’t hurt.

I know that you’re too overwhelmed to speak. That’s quite all right. We already know how grateful you are. And why wouldn’t you be? How exciting this must be.

Just one more thing;

As a part of the experiment, we’ll have to administer some rather radical injections. It is the only flaw in a perfect existence, but it can’t be avoided. Some of them will hurt. Some of them will scare you. But don’t worry – you are in good hands. We’ll be watching you every step of the way, and honestly, we wouldn’t let such a prized test subject get irreparably harmed, could we?

I can see you’re starting to get sleepy. Don’t worry, that’s supposed to happen. Oh, dear, don’t be angry. I know this sounds so overwhelming, but when you wake up, you won’t remember a thing. This is a blind experiment, after all…

I’ll leave you with these thoughts. You aren’t going to remember them, anyway, but it’s certainly something you might want to consider.

Can you really change who you are? Or given the opportunity, will your true self force itself out?
