Well, that was the second worst ten-day span of my life, thank you very much. The cats were certainly happy to see me again, so at least there's that (my thanks to to those who were able to care for them in my absence).

This whole experience has done nothing do much as make me even more curious of the magic in this place. I'd like to conduct interviews with anyone willing to discuss their magic with me; I've the most interest in magic regarding leylines or foresight, though I'm happy enough to talk any other sorts as well.

Why ley lines and foresight?

They're subjects that I've been curious about back home as well, but there's a frustrating lack of available research done on either one of them. I thought it would be prudent to take advantage of the resources I have available while I'm here.

Do you study magic at all?

Yeah. I’m a witch.

What sorts of magic do you do? Do you use a wand as well?

The usual, I guess? Different spells like locator spells and glamours and telekinesis and this one that’s like follow the leader and mimicry and all sorts. Just not dark magic. That’s Josie’s I have a twin, and it affects us when the other does that kind of stuff. No wand. I guess it could be charged with magic, though. But no wand waving on my part.

The one other person I've met who's called herself a witch used a wand. How do you cast your spells?

Magic + Incantation + Hand Motion = Spell Cast

It’s not that simple but it’s the basics. If a spell requires ingredients, that’s included in the process. Sometimes you need things, like a map and an item from someone for a locator spell. And different types of magic can require different things. And some stuff can be personal to a witch or coven.

What’s your magic like?

The magic of my world are rather like a set of legal documents, where you make a contract and then invoke the contract through a series of hand motions to work as a sort of short-hand for the clauses, which we call cradeling. It's similar to the children's game of cat's cradle, though done with one person, and, in fact, you can use string to make your cradelling more accurate if you wish. We often need to imbue objects with a spell, though not always -- for instance, a popular sleep remedy is to attach a sleeping spell to tea leaves before you steep them.

Is there a specific language of magic which you use for your spells, or can you cast them in English as well?

Clauses? Like conditions for your spells? Is it more like you put the magic in the object and the object does the spell if you need them for the spell and magic? That makes sense. About the sleep remedy and tea.

Theoretically? Any language. But there are ancient languages a lot of spells are in, but not everyone speaks the same language, so some spells can be done in other languages. I don't know all the rules, but that's probably why I'm still in school. But witches from different parts of the world had to come up with some way to use their magic before mass communication.

Yes, spells are like legal contracts. You must outline each of the conditions of the spell in order for it to work as you intend it to. What might seem like a simple imbuement on a pen to take down your words for you is, in actuality, rather complex once you account for all the outliers and the little details in the spell itself.

You have a school of magic in your world, too? It seems that's relatively common for most worlds, which makes me regret even more that it's not in mine. Are the spells typically in ancient languages because that was the original language they were made in, and no one has attempted to update them to something more modern, or is it a requirement of those spells?

Ugh. Pen spells.

I think I get it. I don't think it's exactly the same in my world, but more complex spells have more bits and pieces. Different ways to mess up the spell but you can still mess it up. So are you able to do magic here? Does your magic come from you, or are you drawing it from a source, like the environment, like moving it from one thing to another to do what your spell wants?

Yeah. My dad opened one for my sister and me and other supernaturals. A safe space. You'd think at least some places with magic would have some kind of place like Hogwarts a school. But not everyone in my world goes to school for it. How do you learn if you don't have school? Family thing? I think it's a mix of things. I might have spaced out during that lesson. If there was one. Was there one? Not everything translates, you know? But other things can, or you make your own in your own language.

My magic has always come from within, so I'm still able to perform the kind of spells I always was able to, though it's not very much; I've never had much magic to begin with. Before I was brought here though, I was looking into magic which might come from ley lines, nature, and liminal spaces, but I hadn't gotten very far before I was brought here and now I'm afraid I'll have to start all over.

That was very kind of your father. We have private tutours back home, and the best ones are quite expensive. I was lucky enough to have one despite my lack of power.

And that's understandable; if you're only a student yourself, I cannot expect you to be able to answer all my questions. My apologies.

Sometimes things show up, so maybe if you wrote it down, your stuff will show up? Have you tried other magic while being here? Since it's not your home and all?

He's a good guy. Don't the best always cost in anything? Tutors. Brands. Products. I think that's universal. But it's nice that you got a tutor.

It's fine. There are libraries and stuff here. Maybe they can help.

I'd be surprised if my luck was ever that good. I've been taking a few classes at the Unseen University, but I haven't attempted to do any magic from other systems of magic. Is that common here?

I actually have a job at The Great Library. It's been a very big help in my research.

Maybe. Probably depends on the person and what you're trying out. I've mostly just been drifting stuck to myself.

Sounds like a bookworm's paradise.

Would you like to learn other forms of magic, if you're able?

It is most certainly that.

No. However it works, it would take a good deal of adjustment, but I hope I'll learn something at the University of Unseen Arts.
