OOC |-| Alright, this thread is pretty much open for the threads you'd like to create. Have fun and be creative. All I ask is that you keep all NC-17 posts until after. No shagging under the tables, on the bar, or in a broom closet. Also, I'd like most to stay at least until the small plot twist which will be posted later using this account. It will make things a bit more interesting in the game. Thanks!

The surroundings were absolutely gorgeous as people mingled in the ballroom located in the heart of the Ministry of Magic Headquarters. Jewels sparkled and all in attendence were dressed in their finest. From the CRWM's point of view it was a night of celebration, their attempts at creating a new and better Wizarding Community were well on their way and the future looked bright for all, both Muggleborn and Pureblood alike.

Despite the seriousness of the evening, Minister Kinglsey Shaklebolt was not in attendance. Instead, he had left a representative in his stead, who had taken a moment to address the crowd, speaking of the hope and a positive future. The message had various reactions throughout the crowd. Many were hopeful, but just as many were not impressed and it could be seen. The speech and formalities did not last for very long before the guests were left to themselves to mingle and have a good time. The music was started, the bar was opened, and waiters moved through the crowd carrying both drinks and orderves.

Lavender was one of the first of the girls to arrive because she didn't want to miss any of that fun drama sure to come from her and other people. She was already thinking of finding someone to snog in front of everyone married or no. She smiled at the few people who were mingling. The dress Lavender had on was the blue one because it seemed to shock some and that was what she wanted to do. Of coarse those who must not have had a sense of fashion told her it was ugly but she didn't care. Her hair was curled and that was all, she wanted to have it loose for this occasion. On her feet were very high strappy heels that she figured she wouldn't be wearing the whole night. She was ready to cause drama with as many people as possible just so she can have some attention.

Lavender went out in the very middle waiting for some guy to dance with her she need not have waited long because on her slender shoulder she felt a tap. She turned around with a smile on her face. He was quite good looking she noted with satisfaction. "Why hello there sir. What would you like?" She asked cooley a smile playing on her painted lips.

Terry was making the rounds like a perfect party goer. He was great at parties because he knew how to say hello to everyone without getting caught by the weirdos and smelly people. Of course, he came with Anastasia, but after a moment of pointing out people he knew, he decided to let her go talk to her friends while he made the full round. First, he slipped off to speak to a pretty blonde who looked desperate for a dance partner.

"A lap dance from my favorite whore," he offered with a barking laugh. The last time Terry was seen by her he was sporting long, nappy blue dreadlocks. So it was no surprise he looked different with a shorter, spiked natural brown mane. He placed a hand on her hip, another took her small hand in his and Terry began dancing with Lavender, grinning like a fool. "You look pretty, Lavender. Chose my favorite dress, too!"

Lisa waited nervously for the man who would be her husband tomorrow. She thought for a moment and realized that tonight would be the last night she would be single. That didn't really bother her though she was not the kind of girl that likes running after guys and usually she was too shy at events to actually go up to anyone making her feel left out all night. This time she would be with him around her friends and that was a little scary for her. She hoped he wouldn't be too ashamed to let her meet his friends. She looked around for him hoping that he wouldn't avoid her so she was alone for the whole night feeling like a complete fool. She was wearing a pink dress with a string of pearls around her neck. On her feet were a pair of black flats so she could be comfortable

She hoped that Stephen would be there too so she could have a dance with him. Well if he wanted to that was. She was never one to make people do what they didn't want. She thought that maybe she should just go in and wait for him there, but no they had agreed to meet in front of the place. She started playing with her hair which she had in a sleek updo for the occasion. She hoped that they didn't excpect her to stay to long. She also hoped that she got a kiss tonight just because she thought it was important to share at least one before getting married the following day.

All day Seamus had been pacing across his new flat, looking towards Luna's room. She was either sick or she simply hated him. Or maybe she was busy. Whatever it was, he hated it. He disliked not being given proper attention. Especially since he had bought her dress for the ball. He had ended up leaving the dress out, in case she wanted to come later, and left for the ball himself.

He tugged in his suit and looked around. All of his friends were either not around or already with their matches. Seeing a lonely-looking girl in the corner, Seamus smiled. He may as well have some fun.

"Allo. Realise you're probably waiting for somebody, love, but would you mind allow me your company for a dance? I need some practice and would be honored to have a lovely lass as yourself for company." He made a bow, looking up and smiling at her.

In retrospect, Parvati felt she should have waited to make an appearance until later in the night. However, she had not wanted to miss out on the gorgeous outfits. That was what she was telling herself, at least. It had nothing to do with the fact that at the moment the last thing in the world she wanted was to be left alone. In the end she had decided on her red ensemble, a simple pair of sandals on so her feet would not tire out.

Parvati sought out the nearest drinks and took a glass of wine. This was a mistake. Her stupid husband was off flirting with some bimbo in the Caribbean while she was here, trying to keep it together long enough to escape to a club with the other girls. Cursing Mikael over and over again, Parvati sipped at her wine and relaxed near the back of the room. The worst part of being married is that no guy will ask me to dance.

"Lookin' good, Parvati!" He cleaned up well. While his hair was just charmed to be short for now, it made him look much more sophisticated and much less like Merlin. It was as if he was Merlin's twin, maybe an evil twin who was always hidden in a closet.. or something. Parvati looked just as good, better even! He entered without his date being that he wasn't sure he wanted to seem like he was condoning his marriage.

The moment he saw the Indian beauty he made a bee-line to stand next to her, hands shoved deep in the pockets of his trousers. "This is kind of lame, isn't it?"

Palmer was dreading this. That was a grievous understatement. He'd be forced to watch Saiorse with Marcus and if push came to shove, he'd be forced to dance with his bride to be. He'd arrived early, if nothing else, to get his name ticked off the Ministry list and stay under their radar for a least a couple more weeks.

The Minister's lackey spoke of a positive future. A positive future if we don't get murdered in our sleep by those we're paired with. Moving directly to the bar, he leaned on it and ordered a double firewhiskey.

Romilda was actually rather excited to be here. There would likely be a good deal going on to gossip about later, plus being one of the few left that wasn't paired off, she had her choice as to who to dance with. She walked in, her new dress swirling softly around her as she moved.

She was going to take a turn around the room to see who had arrived, when she spotted a handsome man at the bar that she didn't recognize. A smile played at her lips as she walked up, resting her beaded purse on the bar next to him. Romilda ordered a martini and looked at the man beside her. He looked rather miserable, so she felt it was safe to assume he'd been paired off. "Not buying the positive future mantra?"

Asteria for her part had neither been looking forward to or dreading this upcoming ball. She had been rather busy spending time with her husband. There had been a couple days where he had been extremely busy. On those nights, she hadn't seen much of him. Surprisingly enough, she'd missed not being in his presence and that surely had to be a good sign.

When his time had been freeded up a bit and he had sent her those gorgeous flowers, she'd all but melted. No one had gone out of the way just to send her flowers before. Sure she received them on her birthday, but it didn't have the same meaning behind it. She could have kissed him had he been there when they were delivered. It had been a rough couple of weeks, but she knew that she was at least growing rather comfortable in Roger's presence and she was rather fond of him as it were. She was quite content to attend this little ball with him at her side...or her at his as the case was.

She'd seen many individuals in the journals mentioning little black dresses, so naturally she had done the opposite. Instead of black, she'd gone with the lighter appearance of a strapless, tea-length, white dress with a black accent around her waist. With her fair hair and complexion, it looked wonderful and she couldn't have been happier. She'd just hoped that Roger liked it as well. He was the only one she wanted to pay attention.

Roger hadn't had much time to get ready for the evening, as Lynch had decided that a mandatory ball wasn't a good enough reason to let the team out early. As it got closer and closer to the time that Roger had agreed to meet Asteria and leave for the ball, Roger was getting more and more short tempered, and finally Lynch seemed to pick up on the fact that no one on the team was paying the slightest bit of attention. With a loud noise of disgust and a look of contempt for each player, Lynch sent them off the pitch, promising there would be hell to pay tomorrow.

Roger had gotten ready as quickly as he could manage, both impressed and grateful that Asteria wasn't clogging the bathroom that they shared. In his experience, many of the women that he'd lived with tended to monopolize the bathroom and prevent him from having a chance to shower and get ready for their evenings out. But as usual, Asteria was all he could dream of and more, though he hadn't really had a chance to tell her that yet...

Asteria looked positively stunning, but Roger was a touch too distracted to mention anything until they'd finally set foot in the grand room. He'd been more than a little nervous that he was going to make them late and incur some sort of strange or annoying punishment for them both, something neither of them needed.

"You are the most beautiful woman in the room," Roger said softly, looking around at the mass of faces, some familiar and some not. It was an interesting mix of muggle and wizarding fashions, and Roger felt perfectly fine in his muggle tux, even if some wizards might consider it tasteless or some rubbish like that.

Though Su and Daniel had arrived together, they had somehow gotten separated a few minutes prior, and Su had to admit that she hadn't really been paying attention. He could have said he was going to the loo, or simply getting drinks, or said nothing at all. Su wouldn't have noticed. Her mother had come by earlier in the day and insisted on doing her reading, and the awful truth about Daniel's recent distance had been revealed by the most reliable source Su knew. Daniel was falling in love with another woman. The very thought was enough to make her cry at any moment, and Su was trying her best not to think on it. No sense making a scene in such a public place.

While she was worrying about sticking out in her red chiffon dress, Su glumly realized that she stood out from her race alone. As usual, she was an extreme minority, and it certainly didn't feel any better to be alone.

Was she not good enough?

Bad thoughts were circling in her mind again, causing Su to smile at one of the waiters and accept one of the glasses of white wine that he offered. She didn't want to drink red at the moment, and it was always dangerous drinking reds in public since they could could stain someone's mouth and teeth so easily.

It seemed impossible to flag down the waiter. Each time she turned toward one, he was moving in the other direction. Not that she needed the liquid courage, but it would be something to have in her hands, to toy with and keep her nerves at bay. She was definitely rethinking her dress choice but it was too late for that.

The waiter's tray was empty again and he turned away, leaving her sanding next to a witch. Rose smiled politely, thinking she looked familiar. "Gorgeous dress. I feel a bit like a whitefish rolled in newspaper."

Checking her light shaw in at the cloakroom, Rose adjusted her gown and eyed the dance floor. She skirted around the edge, looking for a familiar face as she took a glass of champagne from the passing waiter.

She'd been pleased that, so far, she'd not been paired with anyone. Not that Rose intended to dance with every available wizard in the room, but if one struck her fancy, she was glad she'd not have guilt over a dance with one she wasn't promised to.

Millicent arrived early and very much alone, having not bothered to talk to her soon to be husband on time of arrival. She figured if he showed up, he'll show up on his own time and not hers. Millicent gripped her black clutch in her hands, red lips frowning a bit in nervousness and bit back the mild nauseous feeling as she slowly made her entrance.

It had taken her longer to get ready then she had ever expected to invest in her personal appearance. The hair potion set her hair in a dark well groomed wave, framing her very made up face. She was wearing her little red dress and walking carefully on short heels that still made her feel big and clumsy. She almost didn't look like herself all done up, nor did she really feel like herself. More like a little kid who was playing in her mum's jewelry box and closet.

Millicent made a bee line for the bar as the safest place for her to somewhat hide. She stood facing the bar, back to the ballroom of people and ordered herself a drink.

Emotionless blue eyes scanned the room full of people. People just like himself, paired off with someone they barely knew. But having gained no interest as of what he saw, Zacharias gave a long sigh. Some of the women seemed to have dressed as extravagantly as they could, where as the others kept it simple, yet tasteful. Much to his desire, there had been a few fashion disasters, which would bring a snicker to his lips, causing him to bring up a hand and cough into it just to cover it up.

"Merlin," he would whisper quietly to his partner, Eleanor. "Look at the rag on that one."

As for Zach himself, he had kept it nice and yet it looked almost effortless. A gray and white-pinstriped button up shirt that was rolled up to his elbows, with a white blazer laying ontop of it, with the sleeves also rolled. His tie was slim and a crisp black, which accented off from his white collar, and his white pants which hung loose, and yet close on his lanky body. He wore a black braided belt to hold them in place. Other than looking as if he barely cared with his sleeves rolled up, he kept his outfit in check and made sure it was neat, with the shirt tucked in nicely. His shoes were the classic, shiny, dark leathered, and tassled loafers. His fair blonde hair had only been messed with. There wasn't much to do with a mohawk, there was either you could put it up, or leave it down. He had decided to bring it up only on the top of his head, but it wasn't gelled in a thin line, as he never did that. He had it hair sprayed with volume, instead.

He picked up two drinks from one of the passing waiters, holding one in his left hand while holding one out for El to take in his right. He really was quite fond of Eleanor now that he had gotten to know her a bit more. She would wind up being his partner in crime. He had no doubts that tonight was going to be rather fun with having her there, and had all intentions of trying to force her in to dancing with him no matter how much she objected.

Aside from that, he had a few tricks up his sleeve to make sure it wouldn't get boring. A few tricks that involved a... dare? Oh, yes. His dare... He would see to it that those weren't to be forgotten, he gave a smirk only thinking of it. Even though he had one of his own to follow through with. He'd probably just wave it off as if she were crazy and didn't know what she was talking about. He had no intentions of giving Andrew Kirke a lap dance, and hoped that El hadn't come up with the same idea as to not follow up with her dares. The ones he had given her were brilliant, in his eyes. Bark at your mates with a silent yawning command? It was fantastic...

If it were not for the fact she had convinced herself arriving alone, and late, was all in good fashion these days, Tracey would have been upset. As it was she decided tonight she would do her best to behave. Of course, her definition of behave was something along the lines of not making a scene with that woman Su Li or so much as looking at Daniel. Her own fiance had disappeared off the top of the Earth so she was content in letting her eyes roam on what victims the ball had to offer.

Dressed in a simple pink dress, which she had decided would be a nice change from her normal skimpy outfits, Tracey had felt inclined not to stand out too much tonight. Still, she found her eyes wandering as she plastered on a fake smile. Best behaviour tonight.

They had arrived with much aplomb and style. It was sickening how she kept her smile, as they passed the photographers out front to make it inside the ball. She'd changed her dress as the last had been playful and fun for when she'd thought she'd be going with Merlin. That had changed and her new dress suited her mood and would likely keep Marcus from commenting.

When he disappeared to chase another piece of skirt, she felt incredibly relieved. Maybe he'd go home with the redhead and she'd be free to seek out Palmer. Though the girl looked ridiculously young, she thought as she picked up a glass of champagne and moved with purpose throughout the crowd. Marcus looked a bit like a pedofile and it made her grin. Now THAT would be funny to see in the papers.

She sipped her champagne, wondering if they had beer around somewhere, and sat at a table. She didn't know how much longer she could keep this fake smile crap up. With a sigh, she wished she had someone to dance with.

If there was one thing Daphne never was, it was simple. She didn't show even the least bit of interest in the ball until the last minute when she pulled some fabric from a store in Diagon and had a dress made for her. At least that way, she could say she was being original by having a dress no one else could have. And was it a simple, cute, fun one? Not in a thousand years. Daphne was not simple, cute nor fun, so why should her dress be?

While she was arriving with Harry, Adrian was still partially her date, though as they came into the ballroom and she looked around to find him, he looked more interested in his own wife, or soon to be wife, whatever. Daphne lowered her eyes slightly and looked over at Harry quickly before she let anything sink into her mind. She knew Harry didn't really agree with her being with Adrian for part of the night, but if he was busy and this was mandatory, she'd need someone to dance with. Adrian was her best friend, so he was a suitable partner.

Leaning in, she rested her forehead against Harry's temple and sighed, "I wish you didn't have to work," she mumbled. She would have been much happier with him as her permanent date.

Arriving with George and Alicia had been the best call she had made in a long time. But now that she was here, she wanted to go home. It was nothing against balls, she actually enjoyed them at times, but it always did remind her of her first one, which made her realize that the guy she would want to go with, wasn't around anymore. But those thoughts shoved aside, this still was a load of bollocks. It was mainly because she was forced to be here, and because she was going to have to find her future husband to be soon.

Angelina was more than happy she had decided against an elaborate outfit, and had gone with a dress that cut off at mid thigh, and one inch black heals, bringing her to six foot one in height. She had opted to keep her hair down, and had actually fussed with it so the ends were in large, soft curls down her back. Though she was starting to wonder why she put so much effort into it at all.

Bored, and annoyed about having to be there, she excused herself from the people she had been talking to, and started toward the bar. Her game wasn't for a few more days, she could afford to make this not go by easier if she had to. She found a spot at the bar, not bothering to look to who she had come up beside and placed an order. Hopefully it came fast.

Hermione wasn't overly thrilled about being forced into attendance at this Ministry Ball, but she came nonetheless. She was expected to come and as a Ministry employee, it wouldn't have looked good if she had decided not to attend. Dressed in a simple dark blue dress that was comfortable and a pair of flats, she glanced around and saw several people that she actually knew. At least the majority appeared to be having a pleasant time; perhaps everyone wasn't as displeased with the Ministry assigning them partners as they would leave everyone to believe. Or perhaps they had simply become accustomed to being married that things had progressed beyond their original hostility or dislike for one another.

While Hermione didn't dislike Stephen, quite the contrary actually, it was still a hard adjustment to make. Her life plans had included finally working things out with her and Ron, getting a proper job that she enjoyed, and a place of her own. Two out of the three things had happened thus far, and she couldn't help but feel disappointed that she hadn't been assigned to Ron instead. She had hoped and assumed that the Ministry would have remembered how they fought together and thought that they might have been a good enough match for one another. Still, she accepted it because she couldn't afford the fine and would rather not have a stay in Azkaban. Stephen was kind at least and it was rather nice having someone around her usually silent flat.

Emma had convinced her uncle to go with his intended, despite the fact that she herself had chosen to go alone. Bertram had been cursing all week about how he would have nothing to do with the muggle-born female, which Emma had found to be ridiculous. Her uncle had never deigned to even set a date to meet the poor girl (Girl because the other female was barely older than Em's nineteen) but she had, and she'd found her to be very pleasant and remarkably stubborn. Stubborn enough to handle an evening with Bertram Aubrey. She had set the entire thing up for the both of them. It wasn't that Emma fancied herself a matchmaker or anything of the sort. She simply saw no reason why the entire affair had to be made more miserable than it already was.

Spotting them dancing, a grudgingly impressed expression on her uncle's face at the ease that his potential wife moved, she bit back a grin and gave them a little wave. The woman, Janice, smiled in return and her uncle simply raised a brow. Possibly to remark on her lateness. Emma mentally rolled her eyes. She knew that she was late. Her grandmother had spent thirty minutes following her around the manor telling her that she was late and that she was surpassing the limits of "fashionably late". It wasn't her fault that she'd changed her mind on her gown at the precise last minute. It couldn't have been helped.

There had been a dress. It had been blue. Andit was all the reason Emma needed to change everything. Simple, elegant, and much more her style than the pink frock she'd chosen to please her grandmother. Emma wasn't very fond of pink and she was very glad that she wasn't wearing it now. How a woman looked helped with the amount of confidence she exuded after all. That was the argument she'd used on her grandmother. Naturally, the older woman had caved in.

Standing over by the bar, he downed yet another glass of champagne. Perhaps it was bad form, but Daniel wasn't feeling overly social. He'd arrived with Su, but she'd been rather stiff. Even when they were getting ready at the apartment, she seemed off and even more quiet than usual. The guilt was eating at him and he excused himself shortly after they arrived making his way over to get a drink.

He'd spotted Tracy, but didn't approach as she was likely still mad at him. Daniel couldn't help but watch her though. She did look beautiful. He watched her horse around with someone he didn't recognize and almost stomped over there when he saw her fall. The boy looked suitably frightened of her though and he was sure she could take care of herself. So there he stood and continued to drink. He'd likely be drunk in another hour at the rate he was going. Daniel decided he needed something harder. "Firewhiskey," he told the bartender and continued to watch the crowd.

To say Samuel wasn't pleased to be there was an understatement. His mum had taken Gabriel for the night and it was his first night free in a very long time, and all he wanted to do was sleep. Was it too much to ask for eight blissful hours of uninterrupted rest? Apparently, it was for the Ministry. He bet they didn't have to deal one on one with 4 month olds.

He wasn't dressed to the nines like everyone seemed to be, but he could care less. He had been forced to come. And was going to show up in pajamas but his mother had made him change.

After looking around for Penelope a moment, he decided to just go sit in the corner and see if he couldn't get some sleep. He grabbed a glass of champagne and found a far off table. Wonderful. Now if only they played good music.

Owen felt more than awkward the second he walked into the grand room, and looked around at everyone who had gathered there. This was not his sort of event, and he really didn't belong there. He had a feeling that he'd be calling in the Ellie excuse much earlier than he'd thought, unless Hannah wanted to stay longer. He didn't think she would, but of course he wasn't going to leave her there, unless she told him to.

Owen had opted to wear dress robes, and immediately was shocked to see how many people were wearing muggle fashions. He didn't feel any more awkward because of it, but he certainly felt like a minority. And they probably wouldn't have beer here either. This was going to be quite the night...

PLOT TWIST
[info]unexpectedmod
2008-07-27 05:13 pm UTC (link)
Things in the Wizarding world had not been going as smoothly as some in the Ministry would like to think. There were individuals who held to the idea of blood supremacy, and there were those who would risk everything to throw the Decree 7086 in the faces of those who had created it. That's what this night was about. It wasn't a chance to celebrate the union of the newly paired couples, it was a chance to tell the Ministry that they would not be dictating the lives of those who they considered beneath them.

Many had begun to think that perhaps Voldemort had been right and those who had taken the initiative would be reminding those who willing participated in the new decree that there would be consequences to their spineless actions.

There had been only need for one to complete this task. And complete it would be. Despite the security, it had been relatively easy to get inside. He had waited until well into the evening before he cast the spell that would create the familiar symbol. There was a soft green light that fell through the open windows and on the balcony as the dark mark hovered in the sky above the Ministry, waiting for the familiar fear to arise.
