OOC |-| Alright, this thread is pretty much open for the threads you'd like to create. Have fun and be creative. All I ask is that you keep all NC-17 posts until after. No shagging under the tables, on the bar, or in a broom closet. Also, I'd like most to stay at least until the small plot twist which will be posted later using this account. It will make things a bit more interesting in the game. Thanks!

The surroundings were absolutely gorgeous as people mingled in the ballroom located in the heart of the Ministry of Magic Headquarters. Jewels sparkled and all in attendence were dressed in their finest. From the CRWM's point of view it was a night of celebration, their attempts at creating a new and better Wizarding Community were well on their way and the future looked bright for all, both Muggleborn and Pureblood alike.

Despite the seriousness of the evening, Minister Kinglsey Shaklebolt was not in attendance. Instead, he had left a representative in his stead, who had taken a moment to address the crowd, speaking of the hope and a positive future. The message had various reactions throughout the crowd. Many were hopeful, but just as many were not impressed and it could be seen. The speech and formalities did not last for very long before the guests were left to themselves to mingle and have a good time. The music was started, the bar was opened, and waiters moved through the crowd carrying both drinks and orderves.

He took passing notice of the brunette next to him, not recognising her and another sip of his whiskey got more of his attention. She surprised him when she spoke and wondered why the purpose of small talk would be when the Ministry was making their matches for them rather than letting the witches and wizards flirt their way to marriage.

"Rubbish, if you ask me." Palmer turned, only slightly toward the witch. "What's your take on all of it?"

Romilda accepted her drink and tried not to make a face as the gentleman hadn't paid her proper attention as yet. She sipped it delicately and laughed. "I think it's absurd, though I've yet to be matched off. I think I can tell by your face and your drink," she said nodding to the latter. "That you have." She tilted her head and smiled, offering her free hand. "Romilda Vane," she said sweetly. "I'm afraid we've never met, which is really quite a shame."

Palmer had to smile at her assessment. "The expression possibly, but my drink doesn't change, engaged or not." He took another long swallow, nearly draining it to the bottom.

He took her tiny hand in his, shaking it gently. "Palmer Montague. Yes, very much a shame." His comment was made with a charming smile but he wasn't interested in flirting with her. At least not tonight. Looking over his shoulder, he watched those just entering the ballroom, looking for someone specific. Slowly, he turned back to his companion. "Consider yourself lucky they've not picked a husband for you yet. The trend seems to be that it will be someone completely opposite of who you're attracted to or suited for."

He was certainly handsome and she liked his smile, but he seemed distracted. She was mildly offended, but the evening was young and he was hardly the most attractive one in the room. Romilda simply nodded. "So I've seen. Plenty of people have been complaining. One of my dear friends has been abandoned pretty much by her husband." She flashed him an impish smile. "I simply hope he's handsome and amiable enough to let me do as I wish. You can't hope for much more in this type of situation."

Romilda too looked around to see whom else had arrived. She could swear she saw Roger and Asteria as well as Parvati. It would be much more fun to hang out with happy people. "Hopefully your match won't mind then if you drift elsewhere."

Her grin did make him smile and Palmer felt a slight indulgence to the young girl. "You could always hope for love, but understanding is a much more practical goal."

Following her eyes, he noted how she searched the crowd. It seemed like everyone was searching for someone else. Not likely that will change anytime soon either. "No, I'm almost positive the more space I give her, the better. I'm not keeping you from someone, am I?"

Romilda laughed softly. "Love? Handsome and apparently a romantic." She shook her head, her long dark hair falling over her shoulders. "I've only seen love make people miserable. I certainly don't hope for that," she smiled.

She turned back to him at his question and had the good grace to look a bit embarrassed. Romilda hadn't meant to be rude. "I'm sorry. I've only just arrived and you were the first interesting person I saw," she smiled. Romilda leaned over and kissed his cheek. "For luck. Perhaps you'll find your love at the ball. I'm afraid I've a few dances to claim."

Palmer chuckled. "I'd hardly consider myself a romantic. Not by a long shot." The girl next to him amused him greatly.

"Don't apologize. I just didn't want to monopolize your time." Grinning, he slipped his arm around her as she leaned in. "Thank you. I seem to need all the luck I can get these days." Looking over his shoulder, he nodded her on. "Go on. The dance floor is calling."
