Boom in the news!

Okay everyone, now that Boom has happened there are a few things you should all know that will affect your characters and play.

As of the incident on Saturday, the Boom has been covered in game world news as any natural disaster, tragic incident or other prominent event would be in our own. Camera crews, reporters and general busy bodies will be trying their best to get a hold of people and have something to run. By now there are some crude, not well shot videos by other cameras in the area of the explosion that have run on television, been capped for newspapers and are making their way around the internet. Most of what the news people have, however, is aftermath and testimonials. Well, and wild speculation, of course, especially with regards to some of the school's more prominent students. Absent concrete information the tabloids will, of course, have a field day trotting out theories of who's hurt/dead/disfigured/maimed.

On Saturday they were unclear about what happened. By Sunday it will be alleged that the explosion was the result of someone powered. By Tuesday it will be confirmed, with the addendum that it was an unfortunate violent manifestation. By Wednesday the anti-powered groups will be crawling out of the woodwork and the air waves and internet will be flooded with the resulting dispute.

As of Saturday evening all parents and guardians of Xavier's students, whether they attended the field trip or not, were contacted and updated of their child's condition. This also goes for cadets & college chaperons whom the school has contact information for. Parents who wish to will be escorted to the school to be with their children at the school's expense. By Sunday afternoon all students regardless of injury or living status will have been successfully transported back to Xavier's where the school can protect them from the media tidal wave. The only exceptions are students whose parents chose to have their child released into their custody.

As per their agreement, the press cannot gather outside the school walls. This will not stop some and there may be some encounters and arrests. The nearby township will be flooded with reporters, however, and the school will recommend that no students or faculty leave campus unless absolutely necessary. This does not mean your characters cannot leave campus, only that they are doing so at their own risk.

During this week, all players are allowed to NPC their characters' family. Parents, siblings and guardians will be available to you to use in any way you feel realistically contributes to your character's situation. Any player who feels their character's parents or guardian would try to confront S.H.E.I.L.D. agents or attempt to meet with Steve, please see a mod.

We would like to remind everyone that as of this tragedy, the best healers in the country will be recruited (or ordered in the case of agents) by S.H.E.I.L.D. to attend to victims of the explosion. This includes non-school related civilian victims. Security will be high on campus this week. Agents will be on patrol and check points to enter and exist the school will be difficult and likely frustrating to pass.

Players of International students who wish to have their character visited by representatives of their home nation are welcome to do so, however, please let a mod know beforehand.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday and Friday evenings. It is not required for students to go. The Interfaith Chapel and Sampson Counseling Center will both be open and available to students and their families twenty-four hours a day all week long. All injured students who still require medical attention will be cared for in the Reyes Medical Center.

Classes will continue, but they may not be very intensive. Students who were on the field trip and were not critically injured will be granted three days absence of their choice this week. If your character plans to take more, please notify a mod as any further absences will require mandatory counseling.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please see a mod and we will do our best to address them as quickly as possible.

Okay everyone, here is the list of the outcome of Saturday's Boom. Please double check that your characters are in the right group as it will effect game play for all.

Characters we were unsure about have question marks by their names. Please inform us of any corrections required for finalization.

Modpost: Robobabies Plot Open!

We've decided to open plot early. You can start posting robobabies threads tonight as long as they're forward dated to tomorrow.

We'd like to remind everyone the robobabies are simulating an average two month old. This limits their interactive capacity. Your robobaby should be able to vocalize (coos and gurgles), follow objects across their field of vision, take notice of their own hands, and maybe push up with their tummy. Remember: They're robots going through simulated motions and will be developing as a direct result of the level of caregiving provided to them. So there will be some noticeable differences but overall, they are Tony Stark creations and should follow basic two month old developmental guidelines.

To make things easier for everyone, we've compiled a handy reference list of the names and sex of each pairing's baby. It's incomplete, but we will be updating it as more information becomes available to us. You can continue to provide us with your information in the original post or you can let us know in comments to this one.

Please note: Baby names will not be part of the registration process. Characters must learn this information as well as the sex of the baby from other characters.

MODPOST: Robobabies

Okay guys, it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for! It’s time to find out who you’ll be co-parenting with this week! (And sorry about the delay, we had some unforeseen additional issues that needed attending prior to this post.)

The eager will probably skip this part and go right to the lists, but may come back up here should they find themselves with a case of headtilt.

How pairs were designated:
• Characters who were roommates were not paired (with one exception) to maximize mingling.
• Likewise, characters in relationships were similarly disentangled.
• Most importantly, no two RPers were united in any pairing more than twice.
• Unfortunately we had odd numbers in two schools, which necessitated some characters be assigned NPCs.

Tony and Warren are roommates.
Yes, yes they are. However, because Tony was the creator and sole manufacturer of the robobabies, he was granted a special privilege: He could choose his own partner for the assignment. He chose Warren.

Stark Industries presents...ROBOBABIES!

We talked about this in chat on Monday night, and this is the head's up that it's definitely a go! The babies themselves will be distributed on Monday, but we'll be providing you with the parameters of the plot (and the very fancy, high tech, Tony designed and built babies) and the assigned pairings by Friday.

Things to know:
-Every year during the first full week of May Xavier's does some kind of paired project aimed at real life experience for the 8th graders on up. They've done projects like personal/family budgeting, how to run a private business and assorted others, and, every few years, the ever-popular egg babies.

-This year Tony has stepped in to provide a much more realistic child-rearing experience.

-It's not announced in advance what the project will be in any given year, but there has doubtless been some speculation...and Tony and Warren obviously know.

-The students will be emailed Sunday night with their partners and the project will be explained in assemblies Monday morning - one for each school. They will be expected to pick up their baby (with their partner) by lunch Monday.

-Partners will be assigned by the school (the mods) and will not cross between schools--middle schoolers with middle schoolers, high schoolers with high schoolers, with the exception of college and cadets who will be interpaired.

-There will be a minimum amount of time per day that partners are expected to spend together while caring for their baby, and the baby will log this.

So that's the heads up for now, we'll be getting you more details and partner assignments by Friday!

Assorted Announcementy Stuff, PLEASE TO BE READING!

First off! We warned all of you with cadet types a while back that there are a few surprise hell weekends over the course of the year, and that we'd always give you a week's warning on them so as to not screw up your plans. Here's your warning! A week from tomorrow the cadets will be awakened around 4:30am and instead of being rousted out for the normal Saturday morning run, they will be told to report to stores for full packs and will be dragged out for a wonderful weekend of non-stop training. This will involve a nice long run to start and setting up camp at the end of it. More details will be forthcoming, but please remember that the characters Do Not Know about this, it will be a surprise for them...so go ahead and let them make some plans to get completely screwed up by it. ;)

Next order of business! Figured everyone would like some advance warning on when Spring Break is, as its approach will probably be a topic of conversation as plans are made. All students, from elementary through college, will have the first full week in April off, which is the 4th through the 8th. Cadets have already been informed that they will not get the full week off; they'll be participating in a scheduled long weekend of training/war games and won't be released for break until Tuesday morning. Oh, and as fair warning, April first will be the last Friday of classes before break. ;)

An important notice

While our hearts go out to Japan, and all the lives affected by the devastation left behind in the series of events that have occurred, we are going to ask that this situation not be brought up in game. We are aware it may have significance for some characters, however due to the nature of the world our game inhabits, there are many factors that cannot be accounted for. Cause, reaction time, the advanced abilities of powered individuals, and other such factors would significantly alter both the likelihood of such events occurring as well as the end result.

Because of this, all international events such as natural disasters and unrest in other nations will not be mirrored in Tensor. We shall be providing any such events independently, with advanced warning and chat discussions before hand.

Small, localized news and celebrity gossip are still available for in game mention. If you think it may conflict with the world set up, please feel free to speak to a mod before posting.

Fresh Meat and Room Assignments!

First off, welcome San who's joining us with Vanessa, and Zhen is bringing in Doug. Here, have an updated button!

Also, we've got the room-mate assignments finished, please to be checking the dorm maps to see who you've ended up with. Also, for high school students remember to check who you share your bathroom with, as you probably see them a lot too. And remember, college/cadets, high school, and middle school are all in separate dorms, but they do all share the same cafeteria and student center and can cross paths there.

ETA: And remember chat tonight! 8pm eastern/5 pacific to work out backstory for all these kids who've been there and known each other forever and a day!

A Note about Healers in Tensor. Everyone, Please Read.

While powered individuals are growing in number all over the world, Healers in particular are still only cropping up in about one percent of the entire population. They fall into two categories: self healing and those who can actively heal others. The former grossly outnumber the latter, which in turn make the latter a very important resource for nations which are lucky enough to have active healers manifest among their population. Xavier's has a higher percentage of Healers in their campus population due to training. There are healers as students being trained, and there are healers as teachers and staff, training the younger healers and attending to the students.

It is important to note that we are following canon in terms of who are healers and where they fall on a sliding scale of capability. With the minor exception of powering up non powered heroes to fit into our setting.

While there are by now three generations worth of healers wandering the planet, they exist in various skill sets. There are enough of them to be fairly accessible in large cities or to the wealthy, but in less populated areas they are likely still a rare occurrence. As in canon, the majority of these healers can only work small healing. Any healer who shows a gift in excess to this generally ends up scooped up for extensive training.

At Xavier's, with their larger concentration of Healers, the chances of an injured or ill student encountering one is high. However, healers need to train through active use of their abilities. Which means in some cases you may be getting a younger, less experienced healer (being supervised by a trainer). You will not always see a Healer like Josh. Josh may be called on by the staff or officials to heal severe injuries or other important medical needs. However, he is officially a student in training. He is underage and a civilian. S.H.I.E.L.D. or school officials must ask him to intervene. They cannot force him to. Please keep this in mind when considering injuring characters. Josh is a resource, yes, but he is also a person. He has a right to refuse, and will need to be asked.

If you are unsure about the results of injuring a character, please speak to a mod. We will help you work out a way that everyone is comfortable with.

NPCs Available for Interaction

So, we're sure you've all noticed we've got a pretty hefty dose of NPCs for this game. Part of that was getting a few of the more potentially world-breaking characters off the table, and part of it was just wanting a decent selection of logical adult/admin/staff characters available as needed. So here's a short list of who we can pull out for you if anyone needs or wants them for interactions:

CADET TRAINING UPDATE, PLEASE READ

We've been talking over the cadet program so we can give you guys some actual details of what's going on with them training wise. They are, as the information says, something of a cross between actually attending a military academy and the ROTC on steroids, and this means that S.H.I.E.L.D. does own your ass.

They start all week days with a mandatory turnout for calisthenics and frequently a five mile run. They carry a regular academic course schedule, plus much more extensive powers training than the college students, both one on one and as a unit. Two afternoons a week (Tuesday and Thursday), they turn out for physical training drills, obstacle courses, hand to hand combat, etc. These frequently involve problem solving and the need to think strategically, not just physical prowess, as well as the requirement to complete the entire assignment as a team. Some drills are done with powers, others are powers free. The runs are always powers free. If anyone turns up late for a training exercise it is extended for everyone, and those waiting will be put through extra exercises while they wait.

There are also weekly 'barracks' inspections, never announced in advance. Saturdays they also have a morning run, but the time can range anywhere from 3:30am to 6am, depending on the Agent in charge that week, and may last from one to three hours at his or her discretion. They are not notified in advance, they are simply rousted with a knock at the door. All training is generally done in BDUs, but intermittently they are ordered without warning to report in full uniform. If your uniform is not clean and presentable you will be assigned extra training drills.

Two to three times a semester when they are rousted for their Saturday morning run they are ordered to report to supply to collect full gear and are taken for a full weekend of training exercises instead. They are not given advance warning on this and are given no extra time to cancel and rearrange plans. (We will give players a week advance warning when one of these events is coming up, but the characters get none.)

Once a month, senior Cadets are paired with an Agent for specialized training or to simply follow them through their daily routine.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT, PLEASE READ!

As of March 1st, we're going to no longer allow for characters to have history in the school. They will have to be new to the school somehow. Because game canon will be established and some characters can throw that balance off by having been in school and affecting school and social events but not appearing IC until then. Which will make integration even more difficult. So, if you want any more apps in for characters to have been at school for some time, you need to get them in before March 1st.
