Harry hated last moments – the pause of his heartbeat, the blood slowing through his veins, the last breath of shared air.

Severus rested his chin on Harry’s head, traced the veins on Harry’s neck. “I’ll see you every weekend.”

“I know.” Harry didn’t release him.

“Enough foolishness, sentimental brat. You’ll join me as soon as you’ve finished your Mastery – less than two months.”

“I know.”

Severus waited and at last, Harry released him. Severus leaned in for a final kiss before Apparating away.

Harry touched his lips, touched the skin Severus had kissed, and his heart resumed its steady beat.

"Horrifying, isn't it?" Minerva McGonagall came out of her office. "Perhaps we ought not to have awarded Dobby the Hogwarts renovation contract.

Severus shook his head. "Potter, that creature--"

"I know. Remember the hats."

Severus looked at the lilac and burnt-umber spangles festooning the stairs and sighed. "Perhaps we should …go unpack."

When they opened the door to their new quarters, Harry winced. "Oh, god. Get me a bourbon, would you, babe?"

Severus was already heading for the spirits, but stopped to glare.

But he brought the drink.

The materials take time to gather. Polyjuice to last weeks. A Time-Turner, which the Ministry won't miss; memory charms are useful. The piece to hold it. And back he goes.

Severus Snape, aged just-eighteen, is easy to seduce, easy to persuade. If he ever has cause to kill, he'll do it, he promises, because "Harvey" has asked.

Harry goes back to the present to bring him back. It can't have changed much, right?
