Severus held the book in his left hand. Sitting near the fire he looked old, with those white strands in his black hair and the shadows outlining his much too gaunt face.

"Turn the page!" he said rolling his eyes.

"Right ... here you are! ... I’ll have to go now. I promised Dumbledore to help in the infirmary."

Severus looked up from his book but didn’t say a word. He just nodded.

"I’m sorry!" I whispered "I’ll call you a house elf"

But he was already back to reading, his right sleeve hanging empty over the armrest.
