"We'll help," Hermione said, her arms tight around Harry.

"Yeah," Ron agreed, trying to sound supportive. There wasn't much he'd want to help with less.

"You can't help. He doesn't want me."

"Of course he wants you," Hermione insisted. "He's just scared."

"Yeah, scared." Ron wasn't sure Snape was scared of anything.

"I'm not scary," Harry objected.

"What did you do?" Hermione persisted.

"Just said I cared for him."

"That's mega-scary, mate," Ron said. "He's probably frightened of being hurt; of you leaving him."

Hermione beamed, pleased her boyfriend had finally understood. "Which means Severus cares too."

Harry's eyes brightened.
