The heels on her boots were barely there, adding just about two inches to her short frame, but Ginny was fond of them- she always had been fond of anything that clicked off the pavement as she walked, her steps quick and purposeful even though she
had no real purpose. Her fingers played with the locket around her neck, twirling the gold chain around slightly stubby fingers and then releasing it as she watched the groups of people walking in the opposite direction to her with curious eyes. A number of them were families, parents tugging on children's arms, murmuring at them to hurry, outright yelling in some cases. From behind her she could hear a piercing scream as a toddler yelled that he didn't want to.
Idly wondering what on earth was happening, Ginny side stepped around a grumpy looking man who was twisting a leaflet between his hands. He was glaring at it with dark eyes, as if the sheer hatred on his face could make the thing melt in his hands.
"Bastarding
circuses," he swore and his fingers tore the paper up, throwing the small pieces down onto the ground. She glanced down just in time to see the right hand side of a clown's face drifting onto the road, a tyre rolling over it a second later.
What a stupid way to react to a bloody circus, she thought.
And since when have I not known about circuses coming to town? Ginny turned, her hands on her hips and her elbows knocking awkwardly off someone as she trod on another's foot. "I can't even see the Big Top," she said aloud, a hint of almost-sorrow in her tone.
