Her hands were hard on the wheel as she drove, preoccupied with her thoughts. The Clinic's encroaching opening made Cliona nervous--she'd picked up the mail to see a letter from her father. His feelings on the subject were made abundantly clear by his scrawled capitals. Recalling how vitrolic he'd sounded made her even more distracted and she fiddled with the dial on the radio, finally leaving it when the static stopped.

Emmet's, she thought to herself. Get a drink to loosen up, then call Dad. Figure out what to do for the opening. Figure out how to find test subjects. She began counting out tasks in her mind, not paying as much attention to the road as everything else that the world was demanding of her.
