WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

Take in a bit of fresh air. Just be aware of the mistletoe!

Ernie feeling awkward at both the dancing section and the listening party, is frequently out in the garden, drinking champagne slowly out of a flute and giving his concentration a break

Aureliana sought him out at one point with a plate of nibbles she'd know he would enjoy. She's not checking up on him, but she's totally checking up on him.

"Telling me not to worry is a waste of breath and we both know it." She resists the urge to ask him if he wants hot chocolate as well.

Later in the evening, when Georgi has worked off some of that liquor and needs a break from the crowd and the dancing, he spots Ernie heading outside and doesn't think too hard before following him out to the garden. He touches his shoulder when he catches up, smiling over at him. "Hi, Ernie. You see, I told you I'll find you again."

Ernie jumps about a foot and manages to spill half a glass of champagne on himself at the contact.

Red from the cold/drinking/embarrassment (who can tell!?), he smiles. "Hi. Yes. Yes you did. Sorry - you just surprised me."

"Oh, no, cъжалявам," Georgi says immediately, completely mortified, "sorry, here--" He pulls out his wand to get Ernie dry with a quick charm, and casts a warming charm at the same time because he looks chilly. "I'm sorry, you didn't hear me come, I should not have... you're okay?"

Allie and Ellie out in the garden looking for mistletoe for snogging (not that they need an excuse). They have a spot for hiding. There might be other things going on from their one-uping competition to make sure they're both on the naughty list.

If anyone were to ask her honest opinion, Ellie would admit that the naughty and nice list were very dumb ideas. It was all so subjective. Also by most people's count she would never end on the nice list, so why even bother or pretend it was worth anything.

Besides, is the naughty list got her a rather enjoyable time out in the garden and some rumpled attire -- not to mention a lost elf hat -- then why try to be nice?

She laughed as his beard once more rubbed against her already beard-burned neck. "Okay, okay," she said trying to catch her breath, as she tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey." She waited until she caught his eye. "Pause?"

As far as Maddock is concerned, he'd be happy being stuck on the naughty list for the rest of his life. By their standards, nice is just not worth it.

Somehow Maddock still had the Santa Hat. At the shoulder tap, and call for pause he looked back up with a questioning look. "Hey. What's up?"

She was breathing heavily as this point. Clearly enjoying herself. Probably too much and that was part of the problem. "Just getting a bit heated," she said giving him a playful kiss on the nose. "Maybe we ought to make our rounds and get out of here?"

About halfway into the night, Merc steps outside for a smoke and a break. He can enjoy these parties and loves coming with his family to them but...Christmas themed festivities tire him out fast, add in that this is a professional event hosted by the owners means using a lot more social energy.

Honestly, he really just needs a break from Christmasy things for a bit, it's never been an easy time of the year for him.

From near the entrance, he can hear his sister's voice, sounding a bit dull and possibly in shock: "What just--did I--Elsie?!?!"

Merc looks up when he hears a familiar voice in shock. And with the mention of Elsie...oh that couldn't be good.

Merc puts out his cigarette and gets up to see what's going on. Alarm bells ringing in his head make his pace a good deal brisker than it'd usually be.

After their dancing, Dunbar and Maddie headed outside to the gardens for air. Seriously, just air. Dancing is tiring work. "So do you think you'll get to play in the next bloc or sometime again soon?" he asked, as he moved towards and half-leaned against a nearby garden wall. It had been a while since he'd been on the reserve bench himself but he still well-remembered the frustration at times of not getting to play.

Maddie kicked off her shoes as soon as they stopped, glad for the warming charms taking enough edge off the cold so that her feet could get a break. "Hell if I know," she said, half leaning next to him. "I thought I was gong to be in for the last match but obviously that didn't happen."

She had half a mind to unload her annoyance with the whole situation on him, but this was a party and she was having fun with him. No reason to bring down the mood. "Any other year I might have said reserves would be up against the Bats, but they've had a lucky season."

Dunbar nodded. Normally he might've made an extra comment on that but he didn't want to exasperate Maddie's feelings on that.

"Yeah, though you never really know what a coach has in mind when it comes to tactics and how'll they'll use players," he said. And Dunbar certainly would never profess to know how Ellie's mind worked at all when it came to coaching. "You've got a bye and then Harpies after, don't you?"

"After the Bats, yeah," Maddie said, nodding. She reached up and touched his bowtie, straightening it a minuscule amount. "I've no idea what Ellie is thinking about anything lately, honestly. She runs hot and cold. Or more like blazing and cold." She laughed at that.

"But enough about me and mine. Your life has got to be more exciting right now."

After a particularly fast dance, Fraser led Ainsley out into the garden. They happened to find a time when it was empty, and Fraser was still in his tour guide mode. "Down there is the lawn, and over to the side, you can see the rings of the Magpies' Practice Grounds. Beyond that, you can see the lights of Edinburgh and a crapload of Lothian and the Firth of Forth and all. In the other direction are more houses...

"You really want to see the Priory? It's down this path here."

"Now might be a good time to tell you that I'm actually a spy sent by the enemy to learn all of your team's secrets," Ainsley intoned gravely, but then laughed as a realization struck her. "We were practically neighbors, geographically speaking. I grew up over in Whitecraig. Not quite the same as here, but..."

The gardens were lovely, of course, and there was a part of her that wanted to explore them more in depth; this was a hazard with her having grown up with a dad in landscaping. But the temptation to see Fraser's renovation project was far too great to be ignored. "Yes, please."

"Well, let them know that we're all actually house elves with poly juice potions, and the real players are kept locked up in the basement."

Fraser cast a warming charm when they got to the end of the garden, and magically cleared the path of the light dusting of weather. There was a storm forecast, but not until Monday. There was usually a storm by Monday. He wasn't going to let that stop them.

The path was well maintained, and clearly used. It ended in a clearing near Macmillan Priory. The yellow sandstone facade was clearly in ruins, but Ainsley could see that work was being done.

"It's weather-proofed, but I'm leaving the exterior and the landscaping for later."

"Ah-ha!" she pointed an accusing finger at him. "I knew it! Your dastardly plan ends here, villain!"

Ainsley followed him down the path, still with that semi-professional eye trained on the grounds. She stopped short when the Priory came into view, and lightly grabbed his forearm as she breathed, "Oh, Fraser, it's charming."

She turned to him, eyes alight with excitement. "Did I mention that my dad does landscaping? He's tremendous. I'm sure he'd love to come out and help with the place, if you'd like." She rattled off a few of the houses her father worked or works on, many of them belonging to well-known pureblood families. She gestured toward the Priory. "How far have you come with it?"
