WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

Dunbar nodded. Normally he might've made an extra comment on that but he didn't want to exasperate Maddie's feelings on that.

"Yeah, though you never really know what a coach has in mind when it comes to tactics and how'll they'll use players," he said. And Dunbar certainly would never profess to know how Ellie's mind worked at all when it came to coaching. "You've got a bye and then Harpies after, don't you?"

"After the Bats, yeah," Maddie said, nodding. She reached up and touched his bowtie, straightening it a minuscule amount. "I've no idea what Ellie is thinking about anything lately, honestly. She runs hot and cold. Or more like blazing and cold." She laughed at that.

"But enough about me and mine. Your life has got to be more exciting right now."

Dunbar raised a brow a little at the adjusting of his bowtie. "That's got to be a bit confusing for you players," he commented, and at the same time feeling just a wee bit grateful he retired last season.

"Mine? Exciting?" He scoffed. "You sure you're asking the right guy? Because it's really not that exciting to be honest.

"You're forgetting that last week's party ended at my house. I had a pretty good view of how exciting things got." She laughs. "Being the designated adult can be exhausting, but given some of the gossip fallout, I'm glad to not be wrapped up in it."

"Ah! That..." Dunbar looks slightly sheepish. "I'd forgotten it was your house - at the time it was just like 'Oh, a house.'. Yeah. Well, I was last year's designated apparator, and so I was happy to let my hair down for a change... which oddly enough turned out literally partway through the night." He chuckles and shakes his head. It had definitely been a wild and interesting night.

"Kind of glad Circe didn't catch wind of it to be honest. Jury's still out on if my mum knows or not," he comments, with a shrug. "Still one reason to more or less behave tonight, since it really could get back to her considering some of the guests."

"I think only about ten percent of the attendees did realize it. Lucky for you I'm good at wards and expansion charms. I didn't even know my house could fit that many people." She smirks. "I guess I have to admit you clean up nicely in other ways, too. Not exactly my favorite look of yours, though, for the record."

Maddie makes a face and sags further against the wall, no longer particularly caring about keeping her dress neat. "Circe's a trash mag. Should I be worried about informants creeping around the garden, reporting back that we were" —she gasps dramatically— "alone out here?"

He grins. "Noted. And, don't worry, I'm pretty sure that was only a once-off look for me."

Not that he'd had any say in the look in the first place, except to have complained about it on the night but he'd felt pretty easy going then and hadn't really been bothered by it. A snort escaped before Dunbar could help himself. "Doubtful. Though if there are any I think they'd happily draw all the wrong conclusions," he replied, pointing up to the mistletoe he hadn't noticed before now.

Maddie looks up and is caught somewhere between a groan and a giggle. "Oh, Merlin. Ana would decorate with mistletoe." She once again raises an eyebrow at him. "Well, what's it going to be, Mr. Oglethorpe? Shall we thwart tradition or enjoy it?"

"Well, it'd be a right shame for it to go to waste," he says, not really being as serious as he sounded. "And nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of tradition..."

Maddie smiles at that, still amused. Tradition is one thing, but she's a self-assured sort of witch, so she doesn't wait for him to act. She stretches up on her tiptoes and kisses him.

Even though he knows Maddie can probably keep her balance, Dunbar still slips his hand to her waist to help steady her as he kisses her back.

She lingers longer than is strictly necessary for the tradition. Because hey, it's been a little while, and this is kinda nice. She rests a hand on his chest, also for balance.

Sometimes you just get lost in the moment more than you'd meant to. Which was definitely the case for Dunbar, or maybe it was because it had been a while for him too. Not that being logical mattered very much to him at the moment as he continued kissing her.

Maddie's enjoying herself more than she might have expected, but eventually she does pull back. She lingers close for a moment, smiling, and then lets her feet fall back to the ground again. "Haven't lost your best qualities, I see." Because it's been awhile, but she does remember him being a fabulous kisser.

Maddie finally pulls herself away and bends to retrieve her shoes, pulling them on one foot at a time as she balances on the other. "Ready to go back in? I could use another glass of champagne, since I'm being adventurous tonight." She widens her eyes as if this is some hugely shocking thing, then laughs.

"Probably should before someone comes looking for either of us and tries to put two and two together and comes up five," he replies. Dunbar gives her a mock gasp. "Goodness! Shall we?" he says, offering his arm to her.

She takes his arm and goes back inside, still smiling. It might even be a real smile instead of just the one she put on for the party.
