WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

"Does it? I have no idea what you could possibly mean. It's not as though you're a commissioner or anything." Ainsley winked at him, and leaned up to kiss his cheek.

She gazed around at the progress, trying to see what it might have been in its heyday, and what it could be once the repairs were done. An involuntary noise of loss left her as she imagined the ruined books- typical Ravenclaw response. "There was a fire?"

Ainsley eyed the house again with this new information, and could see the earmarks of the damage now that she had it. She let her fingers linger against the surface of the enormous table, smiling faintly; the expression lasted until she saw the state of the kitchen, at which she actually took a step back. "Oh, kitchen, no."

She went back to his side and took his arm with a squeeze. "I'm coming over to help with this," there was steel in her voice. "Days off, weekends, time before and after practice, I'm yours."

Fraser blushed, slightly. "Most people think that means I'm there to parrot anything Aunt Una tells me to say, but I don't intend to let go of the league without making it better.

"And I can't always get the owners to tell me what they want, so it would be hard to be their puppet anyway. Like this whole 'erase the season' thing. I want to be for it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that someone is doing it to profit somehow. I just can't figure out how.

"What do they say about it in Portree?"

"Yeah. 1942. They never knew if it was a german bomb gone wrong or an attempt to attack the family by Grindlewald's supporters. Nobody was killed, but it ruined the Priory. And it wasn't in use, so they left it as it was. My father should've fixed it up when he moved out, but ... that's a long story."

He saw her back stiffen when she looked at the kitchen, and put his hand on her lower back. "I already know better than to refuse that tone of voice. OK, but we don't have to start tonight. This is a long term project. We still have to take time to climb mountains."

"I can't imagine it's easy, straddling that line between family and professional obligations, nor can I honestly say that I know what goes into your job." Ainsley looked over at him when he mentioned the call for striking the season, and remembered her conversation with Jason King a couple of weeks back. She'd never even considered if there might be some kind of ulterior motive, and the idea gave her a vicious little twist in her stomach. "I haven't been on the team for very long, so I haven't really heard much talk about it. I guess I'm still trying to work my way into their good, or at least tolerable graces."

Some of them were likely a lost cause, but that was to be expected in any group. It was naive to think she could get on with everyone all the time.

She nodded thoughtfully as he recounted the events of the fire; the idea of having a muggle war happening alongside the rise of a Dark magical power was unfathomable. She wouldn't even let herself think about it for too long, because that way led down a spiraling path of hopelessness. In fact, she shoved it aside for a new mission- surely there were spells specifically designed to restore objects suffering from fire damage. If there was a book somewhere out there, she would find it.

Ainsley smiled over at Fraser, warmed from where his hand rested against back, and turned so that she could slide her arms around him. Sure, she was a little curious about the 'long story,' but she hoped there was time enough for that later. "There are definitely other things that can be done in the interim," she agreed. "Including climbing mountains."
