WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

Cav glanced at Maddock as if to ask, you're taking her back to yours, really? but he said nothing. Instead, he stepped in front of Florrie and took a deep breath, eyes dark as he looked over at Ellie as the charm came off of it.

Florrie and slapped did not belong in the same sentence and while of course he didn't distrust Maddock...the whole statement sounded crazy. It was only when Florrie repeated it that it sounded more real.

Merc raised his wand, an uncharacteristic fury creeping into his expression as he waited for the spell to come off Elsie. Let her be able to move before questions were thrown.

Namely WHY the hell are you slapping Florrie?!

Ellie was a loaded spring about to explode. She could hear every word they were saying and rather than abate any angry or give her time to pause and think it just fueled her.

So the bind came off, her arms went flying. After all, they might be more concerned with those and not with her legs and knees perfect for not-punching.

Maddock nodded at Florrie when she told him to get ready. He was frowning as he watched Ellie to see what she was going to do... he was pretty sure he knew exactly what she was going to do.

And she was so fast he was almost NOT ready! Ellie was up and arms were flying. Maddock was up grabbing her from behind to hold her back.

Cav, who liked to think he had some experience with Ellie like this, reached out for her even as Maddock grabbed her from behind. She kicked at him and he caught her knee in his hand. "Ellie, stop," he said. He looked over her shoulder at Maddock. "How much has she had to drink?"

"Not sure... she got a bit festive," Maddock answered to Cav's question. She had been drinking while he was talking to people. They might have come out here to snog, but that wasn't necessarily drunken behaviour for Ellie.

"URGH!" She said rather ungracefully pushing herself back on her feet and upright.

She was right THERE. And she was so done with all of this.

"Just fuck off, all you." And if she had to push Maddock away to get free and storm off, well, that was what it took.

Bottom line - she just wanted to get the hell out of there. Right. Now.

Once Ellie started the push back, he did let her go... of course made sure that she was storming off. "Um... yeah we're just going to go," Maddock said waving at everyone before following after Ellie.

"Make sure she's all right! Don't leave her alone!" Florrie, medic to the end, called after them, before turning to Cav and Merc and reaching out a tentative hand to each of them.

"She hit me," Florrie said, for the third or fourth time. Even though she wasn't injured, she was-- "I think I may be in shock. I'm not injured--I'll be all right--but I think I may need to make my excuses and leave."

There was a beat in which she glanced down at herself, and added, "I need to clean up first." There were dirt and gravel and grass stains on the from of her white gown where she'd knelt to check on Ellie.

Merc reached out to take her hands, squeezing them in reassurance. "It's fine Florrie, don't need to make your excuses. I can apparate you home, if anyone asks you just had to leave a bit early." More to the point, he didn't see how she was going to sneak inside to cover up the hit and fix her dress without anyone seeing or needing explanations.

Yes he was ignoring Cav a bit, both because focusing on Florrie was an easier way to squash the questions and rage directed at Elsie, and because whatever crazy reason Elsie had for doing this...Cav must somehow figure into it.

"Let's save the cleanup for home alright? More important to get you there and away from all this."

Merc was probably right, and she should probably go with him. Florrie turned to Cav. Her medic's instincts told her that he, too, needed some care.

"I think Merc is right and I should go with him. Are you going to be all right? Did she kick you" In the semi-dark, Florrie couldn't see everything clearly. "Do you need to be seen to? You shouldn't be alone either; you've been assaulted." At least the last sentence was a potted speech she had learned on medic duty, and had been repeating for almost two decades.

Cav couldn't help but prickle a little bit at Merc's insistence that Florrie go with him but he also knew that was also because he was a protective brother. Cav understood that, to a point. He touched Florrie's arm gently. "I'm fine." Ellie hadn't assaulted him any more than she had before, though he thought it might be better not to say that out loud. "Are you sure you don't want to just get out of here and come back to mine with me? Might be quieter, and besides, Merc, you probably should get back into the party, right?"

Merc smiled politely but the smile didn't reach his eyes and his jaw was too clenched for it to be sincere. "I've nothing urgent at the party, if they didn't miss me slipping out into the garden I'm sure they won't be concerned if I don't rush back." And he certainly wasn't going to leave his recently assaulted little sister with her new casual beau. Not to mention back to his place...really. Date over, take your shot next time, Merc couldn't help but think.

"Thank you for the offer though, appreciated. Florrie, are you alright to sidealong?"

"Please don't," Florrie said, and it wasn't clear which of them she was talking to. Probably both.

"Merc, whatever is going on, Cav is a victim too. This is his colleague who hit me just like it's our cousin. Ellie's not rational right now and that's on her, not on Cav. I know you're upset but please, remember that Cav didn't ask for this and she might have gone for him too if I hadn't stopped her."

Florrie turned back to Cav. "I wish I could go home with you and I don't want you to think I'm upset with you or anything. I think I should probably go with Merc, though, and let Gabi help patch me up with paste and things. Is there a friend here who can help you home? You shouldn't be alone, you probably shouldn't apparate either--just as a precaution--but I'm in no condition to help you since I should go side-along myself."

"Of course." Cab squeezed her hand and gave Merc a nod. "I'm perfectly fine to get home, really. I'm more concerned about you. I've had worse done to me."

"I'll ward you tomorrow, all right? I'm going to King's Cross to help one of our colleagues who's got a student for Christmas--" Merc would know that was Gregor "--but I'll ward you tomorrow. Be safe and well, Bastian." She leaned over and kissed him, a definite mouth kiss but one suitable for a brother's presence.

Another day he might've been more charitable about his sister's casual...friend. But today was not that day. Really it was only concern for Florrie and having his priorities in order that kept him here and not going after Elsie.

Merc nodded back and waited for the goodbyes to finish, offering his arm to Florrie once she was ready to apparate off to his.

"Sounds good." He returned the kiss but stepped back quickly trying to avoid any more murderous looks from her brother. "I'll be fine, really."

"All right, then." Florrie, even in her current state, could hardly miss the looks Merc was giving. She was just as ready to separate the two of them as they were to be away from each other. "We'll talk soon."

She turned back to Merc. "I'm ready to go now."
