Who: Michiru, Giselle, Legolas, Yvaine
When: Early afternoon
What: Making music and meeting fellow musicians.
Where: Inside the theatre
Rating: PG-13 just to be safe
Status: Complete

Michiru had spent a good hour or so posting notes around the resort. She'd put one up in all the common rooms, plus one at the restaurant and the theatre itself. Hopefully everyone who would be interested would see them. She wasn't sure exactly how many fellow musicians there were here, or how many would come, but if there was one thing Michiru was sure of, it was of the ability of music to connect people. And right now, she was feeling a need to connect, after the ordeal of the kidnapping and everything.

She made sure to arrive at the theatre well before the time she'd posted to get things set up. She hadn't been sure about using the theatre; it seemed a bit too formal for the type of get-together she intended, but the acoustics were perfect, and there really wasn't any better space. So, she set about getting things set up. Several of the resort's ever present golems appeared to help, carrying out music stands and chairs. Michiru wasn't sure what kind of instruments people would be playing or needing, but she figured they could figure that out when they arrived. Two of the golems pushed a rather nice grand piano out on the stage, and Michiru felt a twinge of regret that she hadn't asked Haruka to come as well. But it wasn't fair for her to always be dragging the blond to these kind of things, and while she was quite an accomplished pianist, Haruka didn't share Michiru's deep love for music.

Satisfied that everything was set up as best as it could be, Michiru shooed the golems away and took out her violin. With practiced ease she tuned it and tucked it under her chin. She took a few minutes to just warm up, playing a few scales and easy exercises before she began playing in earnest. Just a slow, sad piece that fit her current mood. She hadn't gotten too far in before she saw the door open and someone come in.

Giselle had seen one of the flyers, and she couldn't have been happier. The only time she'd been able to share her music with someone else directly had been a morning serenade she and Legolas had sung to the rising sun. It had been beautiful, and played to her musical side, but since then she hadn't done anything more than sing from her balcony. To be able to share it with someone else, or a plethora of someone elses appealed to her immeasurably.

She had actually skipped to the door of the theater before pulling it open and bursting inside. The sound of a violin racheted around the room and filled her ears. Tears would have sprung to her eyes if she weren't more in control of her emotions. Next to true love, music was her one great reason for being. She glided down the aisle to the stage where a woman was playing the violin so deftly it was as if they were one and the same.

She did not want to interrupt the woman's playing, so she stood with her hands clasped and brought neatly up under her chin and waited for the song to finish before she chirruped. "Hello! I'm Giselle! Are you the one who put this together?" She motioned to the instruments on the stage before she clasped her hands again, bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Michiru watched as the woman entered, but since she didn't immediately say anything, Michiru let the song draw to a close before setting the violin down and bowing a greeting.

"Yes I did" she said, amused by the other woman's obvious enthusiasm. She was kinda like Usagi in that way. "I take it you are musically inclined as well? Come on up. It seems the Planet can provide nearly any instrument, and the acoustics here are wonderful. I am Michiru Kaiou, by the way."

All elves have a great love of music. Just like their love of beauty, the stars, and their longing for the sea, it is an inherent part of all the elves on Middle Earth. It was rare that Legolas wouldn't be wandering around with a song on his lips, and when he wasn't, it really wasn't a good sign. So, when he'd seen the note, he couldn't have been happier, really. Many good things had happened to him while on Mirage, but this was among the best.

It had been several hours before the appointed time, but to an elf, that was nothing. It passed quickly in archery practice, and soon enough, it was time to go. Since music was very much a part of him, and he wanted to make a good impression on those other musicians who came, he headed back to his room to clean up, and to dress a bit more formally. As always, when he wanted to make a good impression, he ended up looking every inch the prince in his forest green velvet tunic and silver coronet. Normally, he would have left his bow in his room, but after the kidnapping, he wasn't about to do that.

Soon enough, he was headed toward the theatre where everyone was supposed to meet. Idly, he wondered who else would be there, but had no concern about it. As far as he was concerned, anyone who liked music couldn't possibly be all bad. He pushed open the door, and was greeted by two familar faces. The sea-girl, and the beautiful redhead. He considered them both friends, and walked up to them without hesitation.

"Lady Michiru, I did not know that you played. So beautiful. And my Lady Giselle, a pleasure as always." He bowed to both women, a smile on his face. "Which of you conceived of this notion? I am delighted, of course."

Michiru's eyes lit up when she saw Legolas enter. "My dear Prince!" she said, bowing. "So glad you could join us. I never mentioned I played?" She glanced down at the violin, idly stroking the warm wood. Music was such a huge part of her life, she was surprised she'd never mentioned it to the elf before.

"Before coming here I was planning on being a professional musician" she said. "Since that isn't a possibility anymore, I thought the least I could do was share talents with my fellow musicians here"

Yvaine had been a strange kind of chipper ever since that dreadful vampire had attacked her and Lord Vaako. She felt as if she had rescued them both in a way. Of course, the fact that Riddick had arrived fully armed and the fact that Vaako freed both himself and the evening star only to become armed as well helped dramatically. If they hadn’t been there, Lestat surely would have killed her for poisoning him with her blood, despite the fact that she’d had no idea the fluid that gave her life would disagree with him.

Her pride and her sinister joy at the fact that she had inadvertently gotten revenge for what that cretin had done to her was marred only by wariness that kept her on her toes. He could seek her out once he grew stronger, and he could kill her then. The golems- who Yvaine had thought were supposed to be the enforcers of the laws and the protectors from death- hadn’t come to the rescue of Vaako and Yvaine, so she could no longer trust that they would save her from a revenge-seeking Lestat.

In order to protect herself, she had begun traveling about in the daylight hours, no matter how difficult it was, and she had begun carrying a little knife in her boot. Three days of this had made it a little easier. She wasn’t as tired as she had been the first couple of days, but she was unhappy because she felt her purpose had been taken from her. Yvaine was an evening star who was meant to shine at night. The bright light of the Sun practically drowned out her own glowing. One could hardly tell she shimmered at all. No wonder the stars had never had anything to do with their father. He seemed selfishly bright in comparison to his daughters. He was probably too self-absorbed to care a lick about them. That must be why she and her sisters held their mother Moon in such favor.

When she happened upon a note written in a beautiful writing she only vaguely recalled from her observations from the sky, her mood drastically improved. The writing was gorgeous, and the note itself was elegant. A musical gathering… A pang of sadness waved over Yvaine at the thought of her sisters and all of the songs they had sung together. This would give her some joy, though. If one person had decided they wanted to gather all musicians and singers, then there should be more than just the two of them on the resort. This could be a wonderful get-together. Yvaine twinkled a bit brighter at the prospect, though her glow wasn’t as apparent due to the sunlight washing over her from a nearby window.

The time written on the notice told Yvaine that she was a little late, though not horribly so. Perhaps her tardiness would be forgiven in light of her voice, for she was fully aware that it was quite a good one from thirty million years of practice.

Yvaine entered the theatre just in time to hear an aqua haired female holding a violin describe her reason for coming up with the idea for the musical get-together. Her hair was not so strange compared to many things she had seen in Faerie, and it was especially tame in comparison to Tonks’ vibrant displays of hair colours.

Two other faces looked on her, and Yvaine was aware that they all seemed to know one another. The evening star was not familiar with either of them, but one looked to her as if he might be a very tall elf and another had a head of lovely red hair like some of her sisters, though not as shimmery. How fascinating this trio must be to all be musically gifted! She was practically bursting with curiosity, wanting to know much about each.

The light in the theatre was dimmer, for there were no windows apparent. This enabled Yvaine’s lovely glow- which had become brighter upon viewing the three very different looking people- to be seen rather well, despite the false lighting from the ceiling.

“Hello.” The evening star greeted pleasantly as she walked toward the stage. “I am Yvaine. I sing, but I might be able to try my hand at other instruments. I’ve seen so many instruments being used that I might be able to use one myself.” To a human, such a thing would seem preposterous, but thirty million years did give her an edge on humans. She could do a great many things just because she had had so much time to watch them being done. Some instruments might not agree with Yvaine, though. Pianos were usually an indoor instrument, so she would probably be less likely to play such a thing as well as a banjo or a tambourine or a trumpet.

It was hard to miss the girl coming in, considering she glowed in the theatre's dim lighting. It was not the strangest thing Michiru had ever seen, but it was quite interesting. The residents here seemed to get stranger and stranger at every turn. Still, no one ever got in trouble by being polite.

"It is my pleasure to have you join us Yvaine-san." she said with a bow. "Singers are always welcome."

Giselle listened to the song's end, finding that her eyes had closed and she had hummed along. When the woman finished and spoke to her she grinned. "I am ever so pleased to meet you, Michiru! And your hair is gorgeous!" She hopped up the steps to the stage and looked over the instruments. "Oh yes, I love to sing. But I don't think I can play any of these instruments." She'd never seen many of them. And she wished now, seeing them all arranged on the stage, that she could play one.

She turned to see Legolas entering the theater. She grinned and bounced again on the balls of her feet as he approached. "Oh, Legolas!" She crowed his name. She was quite happy to see him, he and Katara had rescued her, afterall. "How is Aragorn?" She curtsied at him when he bowed and then laughed softly pointing at Michiru. "She did."

When the star woman entered the theater, Giselle was immediately taken with her. She glowed! At that moment, Giselle wished that she could glow as well. "Oh, you are lovely!" She exclaimed at Yvaine as she approached the three of them on the stage. She clasped her hands at her bosom and watched her climb the steps to the stage. "How do you do that?" She pointed at the glow that surrounded the woman, in complete awe.

She was very excited to be interacting musically with the rest of the group, but at the moment she could focus on nothing but the beautiful shimmering glow around Yvaine's slender frame.

Legolas approached the stage as well, amused and a little awed by just how many instruments there were. He saw things from Middle Earth, such as flutes and whistles and such, as well as drums. As for the other things, he had no idea what they were. A harp in the corner was familiar, the piano wasn't. He wandered over to the big, black baby grand and pressed one of the white keys. The sound caused a smile to come over his face.

"What is this device? It is beautiful!" Again, he pressed one of the keys, and then the one right beside it. The noise had him enthralled, at least until Giselle spoke. "My king is quite well." He glanced over at Michiru, gave a smile and a wink. He realized that he had yet to update her on what had happened most recently, and made a mental note to do so later. "Lady Michiru, of course it was your idea."

However, he was pulled away from his pleasant conversation with the two women by someone he had not met. He raised an eyebrow as she approached, and bowed to her formally. "Greetings, Lady Star." He was, after all, an elf. In his world, the elves have great reverance for the stars, and it was quite impossible that he wouldn't recognize her for what she was.

Yvaine ascended the steps at the right of the stage and moved toward the trio that had gathered. She beamed- figuratively speaking- as the aqua haired woman told her singers were always welcome. Despite that, the evening star was truly interested in seeing how she faired with a musical instrument. True, she had never played them herself, and she knew it took practice for one’s fingers to adjust to the movements necessary to properly play, but a simple instrument should be a simple task indeed.

The star woman could see in the ginger haired woman’s eyes that she was fascinated with her. It seemed this one had never seen a star, either. Too few knew what a star truly was, but that had worked in her favor not too long ago, so she was no longer ready with an acid remark against those who were ignorant to her species.

Yvaine blushed humbly at the fiery haired woman’s comment. “Thank you. You are truly beautiful as well.” She meant it, too. Now that she was closer, she realized her sister had the same eye colour as this woman as well. It suited her sister, but it also suited this woman, too. One did not have to shine in order to be beautiful. “How do I do what?” She asked before she suddenly realized what the other had meant. “Oh! I am a star, like those in the sky, except I fell just before I was taken here.” It was getting easier to talk about. The tightening in her belly at the thought of having fallen was lessening. There were more important things to dwell on anyway.

Her glow intensified by a couple degrees when the elf bowed to her and addressed her as ‘Lady Star.’ Normally the creatures of the land only revered her kind from afar. Once they fell, they seemed to be fair game for predators who wanted their hearts for their own devices. To be revered for the first time by one who knew exactly what she was, made her feel wonderful. It was not that Yvaine craved reverence. It was more that she liked acknowledgement, and she enjoyed positive attentions. “Greetings, Sir Elf.” She said with an incline of her head, and a small curtsey.

“It suddenly occurs to me that I have given my name, but I know not what any of my fellow musicians are called.” Yvaine said softly, only gently prompting them to offer their names. They all seemed to know one another, but she didn’t know them. She couldn’t very well go about calling them Lady Gingerhair, Lady Aquahair ((or Lady Violinist)), and Sir Elf. What if she inadvertently committed some offense?

A moment later, the star- glowing vibrantly, but not so brightly as to blind her fellows- moved from one instrument to another, gently plucking a string here, pressing a key there, gliding her fingertips over the smooth brass or wood of an instrument. She wanted one to jump out at her, one that she could use even while she sang. Instruments that took over her mouth and lungs were avoided, for singing was truly her calling. With each instrument, she was respectful and gentle. She did not wish harm to any of these things that created such wonderful and unique tunes.

Finally, she came upon a small, simple looking instrument. It emitted a soft tinkle almost akin to a bell when she tapped her fingernail against it. She had seen some instruments that were like it before, but she couldn’t think of the name of this one. It was roughly five handbreadths wide with fourteen bars lying in juxtaposition, each bar shorter than the one to its immediate left. Though she had only just thought of the desire to know what this was, a note seemed to appear in her peripheral vision, sticking out just from beneath the wooden stand upon which the blue glass bars sat.

It read:

“Glockenspiel,

This is a simplified form of the glockenspiel, made of stained glass to emit a slightly different, but pleasing sound. It is otherwise known as a crystallaphone.”

Intrigued, Yvaine lifted one of the sticks with a ball at the end of it to strike gently against the glass. The sound was indeed beautiful to her ears. The resonance of the sound after each note pleased her greatly, and she allowed a gentle note to leave her lips to verify that it would be harmonious with her voice. Thrice she went through the scale of notes with both her vocal cords and the mallet against the bars until she felt comfortable with the notes it emitted. Then she went through it thrice more while using both mallets. This was not so difficult.

Because she was new to this, she took her time with striking a couple of notes together to hear the effect, and finally she played something slow, but slightly more complicated. Of course, to any who had played this instrument professionally, the small, but elegant ditty she played would have been nothing more than child’s play, but she was quite satisfied with herself. The second time she played it, adding to it with words that emitted in an unearthly but beautiful tone. Her voice was inhumanly beautiful and ethereal, but she was no human. Yvaine was a celestial being. Why should her voice singing voice sound human?

The words told the shortened and whimsical version of the different ways her sisters took to entertaining themselves while in the sky. Some would dance, some would sing, some would paint, others still would arrange themselves so they appeared to be pictures upon which the humans- and other creatures- could gaze as they thought about all the things about which a human or other such creature thinks. The song was short with a mere two versus, and it lacked a chorus, but she hadn’t meant to burst into a serious song. It had merely been a helpful way to teach herself how to play this instrument. It helped that she had a good ear for music, and she had seen some play upon instruments quite similar to this over the millennia.

If Yvaine was talented in nothing else, she had a talent for music. Of course, she never would have been able to play an unsimplified version of this instrument so easily, and she knew any instruments more complicated than this would take a lot more time to which to grow accustomed enough to play the small ditty she had just achieved on this crystallaphone. She glowed radiantly, for music was her favorite pastime.

Suddenly remembering herself- and the fact that she was not alone- Yvaine looked up quickly, a blush tinting her cheeks in a light pink that glittered, for her skin itself glittered. She did not apologize, though. They were here for music, after all, and music was what she had just created while trying to teach herself how to use this instrument.

"Don't worry, singing is music as well" Michiru said with an encouraging smile at the ginger haired girl. "I sing a bit myself, though I am more of an instrumentalist" She turned her attention to the violin for a moment while Legolas greeted the other girl, though she caught his smile and wink. She returned a smile of her own along with a single raised eyebrow. Clearly something had happened, and it looked like something good. Which made her happy. Someone deserved something good after the past few days.

She watched as the elf wandered the stage and chuckled slightly as he touched the piano, a clear pure G filtering out into the theatre. "It's a piano my dear elf, and quite a beautiful one. You're making me regret I didn't drag Haruka here. She's quite the accomplished pianist."

It was hard to ignore the star woman, not that Michiru wanted to. It wasn't even the glow. The woman's aura reminded her some what of the Starlights, but _more_ somehow. Maybe she was indeed an actual star. Her interest was piqued even more when the woman began playing. Michiru had always been considered a prodigy with the violin, but the natural way this woman took to the instrument put her to shame. And when she sang as well... It simply took the breath away.

"Lady Yvaine" Michiru said, when the woman had finished. "You do know how to make one feel a wee bit incompetent" She kept her tone light and joking, not wanting or meaning to offend. "Still we, or at least I, am just a mere mortal so..." she shrugged and picked up the violin, settling it between her shoulder and chin with practiced ease. She set the bow to the strings, and with a slight smile pulled forth a string of notes. "This is just for fun after all."

"Oh good!" She exclaimed at hearing that Aragorn was well. She'd been kidnapped with him, and she felt slightly responsible for the ordeal because she was too weak to have defended herself against the great oaf, Wolverine.

Giselle blushed profusely when she realized that she'd been staring at the star woman and hadn't so much as introduced herself. But the glow was so radiant and beautiful it seemed to steal her breath. She smiled at the compliment and then her eyes widened when she was informed that Yvaine was one of the stars from the sky. That explained the glow, but it was almost impossible to fathom. A hushed, "Wow." was all that Giselle could manage then.

"I'm Giselle!" she chirped with a little bounce on her toes a moment later, however. She introduced herself and then stepped to the side of the stage to watch both Legolas and Yvaine examine the instruments. Giselle was fairly certain she wouldn't be able to make anything even remotely resembling a tune come from any one of them, so she didn't try. Yvaine seemed to be able to pick up on the instrument playing very quickly, though.

The music flowing from the crystallaphone was beautiful, but the sound of Yvain's unearthly voice broke her heart. Giselle loved to sing, but she was in no way a match for Yvaine. She didn't think even a line of harmony would complement the song, it was beautiful all in itself. She wasn't sure if she could even bring herself to speak again, let alone sing. Nothing she could do could ever compare.

She clasped her hands behind her and bit down on her lower lip. She, too, was merely mortal, but compared to all these others she was so very plain. It was a discomfiting feeling and she found she wasn't particularly fond of it. She might have been able to sing while Michiru played, or sing in harmony with Legolas. Singing with Yvaine, however, would have sounded like a frog's croak next to a nightingale's song. And the three of them all together were quite intimidating. She was thinking for the first time that maybe she would just watch, listen and appreciate all their musical talents rather than participate.

Legolas smiled at the bright, fiery-haired woman, glad that she was so pleased. To be truthful, Aragorn wasn't always the most social being ever, but he knew that a sort of bond could be formed with someone over the course of something so traumatic. He knew, because he still thought very fondly of the dark-haired waterbender who had helped him rescue his Ranger and his friend Giselle. If Aragorn and Giselle were to be friends, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all. If anyone could pull the sometimes gruff Ranger out of his shell...

He settled down at the piano, deciding he liked the sound of it. It was like nothing else he had in his world, but he had a good enough understanding of music, and a quick mind and agile fingers. He would be competant, if not amazing, though given time he could probably do very well with the instrument. "Well, then, I shall do my best with this strange piano contraption." He plunked out a little tune, which came out at least sounding recognizable as the one that he and Giselle had sung together, he in Elven and she in English. He cast a smile to the redheaded woman and gestured her over to him.

"Some sing with me?" To be honest, he himself was a little shaken by the beautiful song of the star woman, but what else could he have expected from her? He sort of thought Giselle might be feeling a little the same, and he wondered if they could offer each other comfort. "My Lady Seahair, do you think you could pick up the tune that I just played on that... instrument you have?" Again, unfamiliar, though he had found it quite beautiful. "Perhaps if we were to focus entirely on one tune, we could create something truly beautiful."

Though Yvaine had not apologized when she finally remembered the other three when her song was finished, she felt an intense desire to do so now. They all seemed uncomfortable to her because their faces all showed something a bit downtrodden and self-conscious. She had caused this, and she felt a small sadness slip its way into her heart. The bright glow around her dimmed, and a narrow line of worry made itself apparent between her brows.

“I had not meant for any to feel such a way. I have been watching the Earth and its goings-on for thirty millenia. I had only hoped that by learning to play even a simple instrument, I might be able to add to our music, so you might not feel alone as the only instrumentalist. Please, I love to listen to musicians of all kinds, whether they be humans, elves, my sister stars, my mother Moon, or some other creature. Please, do not be afraid to sing or play.” Yvaine was pleading with them, though not in a whining, begging sort of way. She only wished to raise their self-confidence.

Michiru had the right idea. “Yes. This is for fun. It is a way to experience the styles of all musicians.” She prompted gently. She had never had the intention of outshining anyone- so to speak ((no pun intended))- with her voice. She enjoyed having well honed skills, but she was not the competitive sort who wished to be the best in any area. The evening star far preferred the idea that she could share her gifts so others could share theirs.

The notes she heard from the aqua haired woman’s violin were lovely, and she found herself smiling. Then she smiled again when the elf prodded a tune out of the piano. When he requested the violinist come up with something like the tune he had created, Yvaine felt inspired to do the same with the crystallophone before her. Of course, she was quite pleased with herself for having decided an instrument would be good for her to use, for she would not be completely useless while she wasn’t singing. Indeed, she would not sing, at least not yet.

Having perfect pitch helped her much in discovering a melody that suited the elf’s tune. The little mallets stuck the glass bars gently, but they released a melodic tune that flowed into the one played upon the piano, and it sounded quite nice with the violin as well. She could feel the instruments resonating around her. The acoustics of this place were truly magnificent. She hardly had to project the sound of this little instrument at all for it to be heard. Unable to prevent herself from adding her voice, she kept her mouth closed, but allowed a sound to reverberate among her vocal cords to let out a soft humming that would do nothing more than add to the background music. She wanted to hear the other voices, and she didn’t want her own voice to disrupt their joy. She was fond enough of playing this interesting instrument and humming along softly with the music. Her glow brightened a little once again as she allowed the sounds to flow around her and through her.

Michiru listened carefully to the tune the elf played, smiling very slightly at how quickly he was able to pick up on the basics. Though she couldn't claim perfect pitch, her relative pitch was good enough to pick up on the music and pull out a gentle harmony. It helped that she was used to playing this way with a pianist, though usually it was she who set the melody.

"Please do sing Lady Giselle" she said, as she played. "I would love to hear your voice as well" It was true. The piano, violin and crystallaphone blended together beautifully, especially with the theatre's acoustics, but there was something missing; the overtone of a vocalist. And unless Michiru had lost all her touch in determining voices, Giselle's would sound almost perfect.

Giselle moved toward the elf as he prompted her to do so. She gave him a tentative smile and stood by the piano, watching his long fingers move over the black and white keys. She wished that she could take to something so easily. She was so pleased that these three could work the instruments so well, and two of them without any training whatever. She nibbled her bottom lip a bit longer until Michiru bid her to sing.

She took a small breath and began to sing. The first note that poured from her was a bit shaky, but as soon as she heard her own voice with the melody her confidence returned. She knew she could sing well, and even with the ethereal humming from the star woman, her voice did not sound so bad.

She sang the song she and Legolas had sung together on that morning sunrise.

"I've been dreaming of a true love's kiss
And a prince I'm hoping comes with this
That's what makes everaftering so happy
And that's the reason we need lips so much
For lips are the only things that touch
So to spend a life of endless bliss
Just find who you love through true love's kiss

I've been dreaming of a true love's kiss
And a prince I'm hoping comes with this
That's what makes everaftering so happy
And that's the reason we need lips so much
For lips are the only things that touch
So to spend a life of endless bliss
Just find who you love through true love's kiss
."

She finished the song, ending on a lingering note. She flushed slightly and smiled at her three companions. Giggling she chirped, "That was fun!"

A simple tune was all he was able to handle, but he did quite well. He was sure that he was no match for Michiru's Haruka, but at least it was recognizable. The music filled him, the star woman on her strange instrument with her unearthly humming as a background, Michiru on her violin, and he on his piano. When Giselle came up to stand by him, he reached out briefly and touched her hand in encouragement before going back to the piano.

The song was so simple, so beautiful, and it was strange that it was close enough to the same melody on his world on hers, though the songs were very different. He couldn't quite resist the lure of the ancient elven melody, so while he willingly left the main part to Giselle, he harmonized. Not quite the humming that Yvaine was doing, he simply accented certain words that the redhead sang with his own voice. To be honest, it likely would have been too difficult to do much more and play the unfamiliar piano.

When it was over, his face wore a look of awe as he turned around on the seat to look at his fellow musicians. For once, he wasn't smiling, even though he had taken great joy in making the music. It was simply a joy that was too new to be expressed with a simple smile, and he looked around at each and every one of them. "I have never, in my nearly one thousand years of life, felt anything like that." His voice was hushed, solemn. The music had effected the normally irreverant, freespirited elf greatly, and he didn't try to hide it.

"If the Valar themselves were to hear our song, they would weep." A slight smile did cross his face as he looked at the beautiful Giselle. "Indeed, my Lady, it was fun."

Yvaine smiled at the encouragement of Giselle to sing, and her humming ceased for a moment to do the same. “Go on, Giselle. I am certain your voice is lovely.” Her soft humming resumed to blend with the crystallophone. Her ears listened to the blending of the instruments, feeling quite at peace even if the star and the elf could only play the most simplistic of melodies on their chosen instruments.

Despite the hesitation and shakiness of the first note Giselle sang, Yvaine knew it was obvious this woman had an obvious gift for singing. As soon as her confidence gained, the evening star was delighted with the sound. The ginger haired woman’s voice blended beautifully with the celestial humming of the star woman and the melody of the elf in his own language.

Though their song was simple, Yvaine delighted in the words, in the sound. When at last it was finished, a soft sigh expelled from her lips. “That was beautiful, Giselle. Your voice is truly a wonder, as is yours Sir Elf.” Michiru had played the most complicated version of the song on her violin because she was capable of it, and the star woman turned to her next. “You play magnificently. How long have you been practicing with a violin?”

One of Michiru's favorite things about playing with others like this was the ability to freely adapt the music as she was playing. Once Giselle started singing, she didn't hold back with her playing, and worked through a complicated harmony to suit Giselle's voice, and the other two instruments. She was thrilled at the beauty of the results. It had been so long since she'd been able to play like this. So much of the past few years had been taken up by being a senshi, and what little other time she had had been spent in concerts and recording studios. Not much chance to meet other musicians and just play for the love of music. Here though, it seemed she had all the time in the world. And wonderful musicians to play with.

"Indeed, that was wonderful" Michiru said as they finished. She looked over at Legolas "I would be interested to hear you on an instrument you are familiar with, since you seemed to pick up this one so well" she said, her fingers brushing the glossy black wood of the piano.

At the star woman's question Michiru smiled slightly and twisted the bow in her fingers. "I've played since I was five" she said quietly, not wanting to boast. "I really was hoping to make a full career out of it."

Giselle beamed at those around her. It had been great fun and she wanted to do another song. She was amazed at the way they all seemed to play their instruments. They blended well, but all had their own sound. And they all seemed to complement her voice. She wished once again, that she could play an instrument so that she could play while Yvaine sang. The woman had a voice beyond any earthly beauty Giselle could recall and she wanted to hear her sing rather than stunt herself with humming.

"Yvaine, I should like to hear you sing a song." She looked around for something she might be able to play with little to no difficulty. She was very musically inclined, but didn't have experience playing any instruments. She drifted away from the piano and looked at some of the other musical objects. They all looked rather complicated and she wasn't sure she'd be able to make anything resembling a tune come from some of them.

"Your playing is really beautiful, Michiru. If I had money, I surely would pay to hear you play." She smiled, looking up from one of the instruments that looked so strange she wasn't sure how any music could be made from it. She picked it up and squeezed the instrument together. A wheezy high pitched note came from the acordian and she winced before putting it down again.

She sat down at a full drum set and picked up the drumsticks that had been resting on the stool. She experimentally tapped the cymballs and listened to the pleasant crashing sound that echoed until the cymballs stilled. She tapped lightly on one of the smaller drums and smiled at the deeper sound it made. When her foot touched the pedal that caused the bass drum to sound, her blue eyes widened and she laughed.

She wasn't sure any of the drums would complement Yvaine's voice so she stood back up and replaced the drumsticks on the stool. For now, she would just listen. She returned to where she'd stood before, beside the piano, and waited for another round of their musical endeavors to begin.

It had been an experience unlike anything he'd ever had before. He found himself beaming around at all of these wonderful people, and... not an elf among them. Imagine that. Things had changed. He would have been willing to bet, even a short year ago, that no non-elf could make the sort of music that they'd all made together. Michiru and Giselle were already friends of his, and he hoped he could count Yvaine among that number, as well.

He was content to set at the piano and watch the girls interact, the smile still on his face. He nodded his thanks at the compliment of the star woman, but other than that, simply watched. The delight they were all feeling was clear, and it was a good place for an elf to be. Surrounded by beauty, music... it likely couldn't get much better.

Still, he was unable to simply sit around when Giselle made her plea to Yvaine. The humming had been beautiful, though it had shaken his confidence for a moment. He found he was eager to hear it again, when he wasn't so surprised and taken off guard by the beauty of her voice. He knew what to expect, so he wasted no time in adding his encouragement to Giselle's. "Yes, my lady star, please sing once more..."

He stood and wandered through the stage area, picking up various instruments, but not so idly this time. He was actually looking for something specific, and soon, he found it. Normally, he favored the harp, because he could accompany himself while singing. However, this time he reached for another instrument, a simple recorder made of wood. The Planet must have known he was coming, because it was a design that could have been taken right from the homes of an elven bard of Mirkwood. He lifted it to his lips and blew softly. The tone that came out was pleasing.

"If you would not mind overly much, I could accompany you on this...?"

“Oh! As would I!” Yvaine exclaimed. If he could play so well on a piano- of which she realized he had never played before this time- then he must be a true genius with a familiar instrument. The star woman could not recall ever having seen or ever having heard of an elf who was not musically inclined. Legolas was no exception.

“What stopped you from making it into a career?” Yvaine asked, her curiosity overwhelming any sense that she was snooping into the life of someone who might prefer she didn’t. The star woman knew only that she enjoyed learning of the lives of all others. She was the best of listeners, and her observational skills were impeccable.

Yvaine’s eyes lit up a little for an instant when Giselle decided she would like to hear the evening star sing after all. Uncertainty soon moved through her, though, dimming her glow. “Are you certain?” She remembered all too well the looks that had passed over the other’s faces, and she did not wish to see such looks again. However, the fair elf also urged her toward singing.

Her eyes moved toward Giselle as the woman dabbled about the instruments as Yvaine herself had done. She knew the red haired femme was uncertain about her instrumental abilities, and the star’s eyes sought a simple instrument with a pleasing sound. She happened upon the tambourine. Though it was percussion, it was nice if the person knew how to keep a good beat.

Lifting the instrument from the chair, she moved toward Giselle. “This might be a good instrument for you.” She demonstrated the proper way to hold it, and she showed the other woman how to use it by shaking it and possibly tapping it against her thigh in order to keep beat. “You might like to try it. It’s simple, but it’s pleasant, and it adds a little something that might otherwise be missing.” She offered the circular hand-held instrument to Giselle.

Her ears alerted her to the pleasant sound of a recorder, and she turned toward the elf as he spoke. “I would be delighted to accompany you.” She took only a moment to decide upon a song. “My sister heard this poem from a man she observed beneath us. She translated the words for me because my Portuguese has never been fantastic, and we made a song of it. I should like to sing this with you as well.”

She stood, there, and first she let out a soft note to allow the others to catch the pitch. Then she sang,

“The rose looks out in the valley
And thither will I go!
To the rosy vale where the nightingale
Sings his song of woe.

The virgin is on the river-side
Culling the lemons pale;
Thither,--yes! thither will I go
To the rosy vale where the nightingale
Sings his song of woe.

The fairest fruit her hand hath culled,
'Tis for her lover all,
Thither,--yes! thither will I go
To the rosy vale where the nightingale
Sings his song of woe.

In her hat of straw, for her gentle swain,
She has placed the lemons pale;
Thither,--yes! thither will I go
To the rosy vale where the nightingale
Sings his song of woe.”

Her glow was vibrant, but not so bright one could not look upon her person. This get-together truly made her feel wonderful, and being able to share her voice was magnificent.

Michiru looked away at the star woman's question, taking the moment to admire the curve of her violin. It was a fair question, and one she'd been asked before. Still, it was never an easy one to answer, even here where she didn't have to keep her senshi identity a secret. After all, Usagi and her friends had never really understood her reasons, even though they of all people should have.

"Fate had other things in store for me than becoming a musician" she said finally. "I had to be a warrior instead. Perhaps if this place hadn't snatched me away..." her voice trailed off. Then she shook her head slightly and smiled. "But that doesn't matter now does it? I would like to here you sing again Lady Yvaine."

She made a few small adjustments to the tuning of the violin as Legolas and Giselle found instruments. Not that the instrument needed adjusting, but it gave her something to do. While she was passable on the piano and could probably handle another string instrument, she felt no need to express herself on anything but her chosen instrument.

As the star woman started singing, Michiru found the melody and played a soft, simple counterpoint. The other woman's voice was so unearthly and beautiful, it would be a shame to complicate it with a more complex harmony.

Giselle took the tambourine and examined it. She gave it a little shake, and the pleasing sound of the small cymballs crashing together tinkled in the air around her. She grinned and nodded, though she wasn't sure it was such a great instrument to accompany such a voice as Yvaine's. "Thank you!" She accepted it graciously and watched as she went off to sing.

The sound of her voice made Giselle's spine tingle. She bumped the tambourine against her thigh now and again through the song, when she could remember. She was mostly distracted by the melody issuing from the glowing woman's mouth. Had Giselle been one to question the integrity of other people, she might have wondered at the honesty behind Yvaine's claim of being a star. But this song, and the glow that surrounded her, would have put those ideas to rest immediately.

Giselle knew of no other creature anywhere that could make a sound like that. She was mesmerized. The sound of the recorder and the violin accompanying such an ethereal voice only added to the beauty of the song and Giselle did not notice that she was weeping until the song was over. She was startled to feel the coolness of tear tracks on her face, and reached up to brush them away. But anyone who would fear for her sadness would notice the smile on her face.

"Yvaine, that was beautiful. Beyond beautiful. It was indescribable." She dried her tears and smiled at the rest of them. "Michiru, thank you for inviting me! This has been so much fun. I would like to do this again. Please think of me for next time." She smiled and bowed to the trio before she stepped down from the stage. She was hungry, and a little bit tired. She wanted to hear the sound of Yvaine's song in her head for the rest of the day and was afraid that another song might chase it from her mind. She gave a last, enthusiastic wave before exiting the theater and heading for the cafe.

The blond elf played the recorder, not anywhere near as well as he could sing, but more than well enough to provide background for the star woman's song. He watched her raptly, the beautiful sounds coming out of her lips completely consuming him until the last note died. When it was over, he lowered the instrument from his lips and just sat silently for a second. His soul had been touched, and he needed a moment to gather himself.

He finally moved, turned to his companions, noting the effect it had had on all of them. It was so beautiful, so completely without peer, what they had made. And, to him, both songs had been beautiful equally, though quite different. Finally, he shook his head when he saw his friend crying. "Lady Giselle..." Then, she was gone, and he made a mental note to track her down again. He could tell the music had touched her greatly, and he sensed that, in her, he'd found someone else who was equally touched by the beauty of music.

That, though, was later. For now, he walked over to the star woman and the violinist. To each of them, he bowed. "My thanks to you both. Never have I had an experience like this before. Lady Michiru, I already counted you a friend, and after this, Lady Star, I hope I can say the same of you." His words were very sincere.

"But for now, I believe I must go as well. Anything else on top of such perfection would be too much. I very much hope to meet with both of you again." Once more, he bowed, and then turned to go. He needed to let the beauty seep in to him, which he could do better walking alone than with others. He did hope that this happened again.

“Fate is a double edged sword, it seems. At least you are able to play your violin how you wish it now.” Yvaine said softly, soothingly.

Whether or not Giselle realized it, she always seemed to tap the tambourine against her thigh at the perfect moments, thus accentuating the end of a line she had sung. Although it may not have been the perfect instrument to accompany the star woman’s voice, it did her song no harm. It even added a little something.

The gentle playing of the violin, mingled with the recorder to create a beautiful song to back up the unearthly voice of the star. Her song was simple- one written by man, translated by a star, and put to music by the same star and her sister. It was beautiful in it’s own right, and perhaps even more beautiful for the voice that projected it.

“Thank you, Giselle. That means much to me. We shall have to meet again.” The smile on Yvaine’s lips was sincere, and she hoped that she would see the ginger haired female some day in the future.

When she had left, Legolas seemed to be the next to give his parting words. The evening star bowed gracefully toward the elf. “Sir Elf, I shall count you as a friend ever after, for I see in your eyes that you are a kind soul and a lover of music as am I.” Yvaine knew she hoped to see him as well.

It seemed that the musical gathering was at an end. It had been a fun-filled adventure of sorts, and she had met three persons who delighted her. Her glow was vibrant with her joy. At last she turned to the aqua-haired violinist. “It has been a pleasure to play and sing with you. I hope we might again meet. Farewell.” She bowed and descended the steps, leaving the theatre with a sense of peace she had not felt since she had fallen from her home sky.
