Where: Inside the theatre
Rating: PG-13 just to be safe
Status: Complete

Michiru had spent a good hour or so posting notes around the resort. She'd put one up in all the common rooms, plus one at the restaurant and the theatre itself. Hopefully everyone who would be interested would see them. She wasn't sure exactly how many fellow musicians there were here, or how many would come, but if there was one thing Michiru was sure of, it was of the ability of music to connect people. And right now, she was feeling a need to connect, after the ordeal of the kidnapping and everything.

She made sure to arrive at the theatre well before the time she'd posted to get things set up. She hadn't been sure about using the theatre; it seemed a bit too formal for the type of get-together she intended, but the acoustics were perfect, and there really wasn't any better space. So, she set about getting things set up. Several of the resort's ever present golems appeared to help, carrying out music stands and chairs. Michiru wasn't sure what kind of instruments people would be playing or needing, but she figured they could figure that out when they arrived. Two of the golems pushed a rather nice grand piano out on the stage, and Michiru felt a twinge of regret that she hadn't asked Haruka to come as well. But it wasn't fair for her to always be dragging the blond to these kind of things, and while she was quite an accomplished pianist, Haruka didn't share Michiru's deep love for music.

Satisfied that everything was set up as best as it could be, Michiru shooed the golems away and took out her violin. With practiced ease she tuned it and tucked it under her chin. She took a few minutes to just warm up, playing a few scales and easy exercises before she began playing in earnest. Just a slow, sad piece that fit her current mood. She hadn't gotten too far in before she saw the door open and someone come in.

Yvaine ascended the steps at the right of the stage and moved toward the trio that had gathered. She beamed- figuratively speaking- as the aqua haired woman told her singers were always welcome. Despite that, the evening star was truly interested in seeing how she faired with a musical instrument. True, she had never played them herself, and she knew it took practice for one’s fingers to adjust to the movements necessary to properly play, but a simple instrument should be a simple task indeed.

The star woman could see in the ginger haired woman’s eyes that she was fascinated with her. It seemed this one had never seen a star, either. Too few knew what a star truly was, but that had worked in her favor not too long ago, so she was no longer ready with an acid remark against those who were ignorant to her species.

Yvaine blushed humbly at the fiery haired woman’s comment. “Thank you. You are truly beautiful as well.” She meant it, too. Now that she was closer, she realized her sister had the same eye colour as this woman as well. It suited her sister, but it also suited this woman, too. One did not have to shine in order to be beautiful. “How do I do what?” She asked before she suddenly realized what the other had meant. “Oh! I am a star, like those in the sky, except I fell just before I was taken here.” It was getting easier to talk about. The tightening in her belly at the thought of having fallen was lessening. There were more important things to dwell on anyway.

Her glow intensified by a couple degrees when the elf bowed to her and addressed her as ‘Lady Star.’ Normally the creatures of the land only revered her kind from afar. Once they fell, they seemed to be fair game for predators who wanted their hearts for their own devices. To be revered for the first time by one who knew exactly what she was, made her feel wonderful. It was not that Yvaine craved reverence. It was more that she liked acknowledgement, and she enjoyed positive attentions. “Greetings, Sir Elf.” She said with an incline of her head, and a small curtsey.

“It suddenly occurs to me that I have given my name, but I know not what any of my fellow musicians are called.” Yvaine said softly, only gently prompting them to offer their names. They all seemed to know one another, but she didn’t know them. She couldn’t very well go about calling them Lady Gingerhair, Lady Aquahair ((or Lady Violinist)), and Sir Elf. What if she inadvertently committed some offense?

A moment later, the star- glowing vibrantly, but not so brightly as to blind her fellows- moved from one instrument to another, gently plucking a string here, pressing a key there, gliding her fingertips over the smooth brass or wood of an instrument. She wanted one to jump out at her, one that she could use even while she sang. Instruments that took over her mouth and lungs were avoided, for singing was truly her calling. With each instrument, she was respectful and gentle. She did not wish harm to any of these things that created such wonderful and unique tunes.

Finally, she came upon a small, simple looking instrument. It emitted a soft tinkle almost akin to a bell when she tapped her fingernail against it. She had seen some instruments that were like it before, but she couldn’t think of the name of this one. It was roughly five handbreadths wide with fourteen bars lying in juxtaposition, each bar shorter than the one to its immediate left. Though she had only just thought of the desire to know what this was, a note seemed to appear in her peripheral vision, sticking out just from beneath the wooden stand upon which the blue glass bars sat.

It read:

“Glockenspiel,

This is a simplified form of the glockenspiel, made of stained glass to emit a slightly different, but pleasing sound. It is otherwise known as a crystallaphone.”
