Day 305 : MISTLETOE BOT MINGLE
[You won't hear them coming. You won't see their snare. The mistletoe bots are out and they're hunting you, two by two. You can run and you can hide, but eventually you will be caught, and then there's nothing left to do but kiss your way out!

Chapstick stations will be available.]

Yeah, well... I won't tell you to get more friends.

[If only she knew just how different their brands of not-wanting-to-talk-to-people are! But no, he thinks that it's best to exercise some discretion around Sarah. He doesn't want to scare her or anything.]

I'm... it's good you're still my friend. [Awkward. He starts to walk away, nervous about those bots.] I have some stuff to do...

[She starts to smile, but then he's already leaving. Was it something she said?]

Oh. Well... good luck with your stuff...

[Yeah, those bots he's nervous about? There's one now surrounding them in a barrier.]

Thanks, I--

[What? NO. Nathan is so dismayed that he forgets what he was going to say. Not that Sarah is the worst person to be stuck in a kissing-bubble with, but he'd really rather just... not.]

Oh.

Sorry... I didn't see it.

[She crosses her arms, self conscious about the whole kissing thing.]

No, it's okay. It's... I mean, we kissed once before, the last time these things were here, so...

[So it's still really awkward.]

Mmhm. [Because Sarah seems to be under the impression that the less she says, the less awkward it'll be. She leans forward, arms still crossed, to give him a peck on the lips.]

Think it'll be enough for the bot?

[It was a nice try, but the bot does not release the barrier or shower them with confetti. Kiss better, it says.

Nathan is already red from Sarah's attempt; the bot makes him blush all the redder.]

What does that even mean, "kiss better"?

I don't know! I don't go around kissing people usually. I've never even had a boyfriend.

[She actually looks a little distressed.]

Then I guess we're even, 'cause I never kissed a girl on purpose before. [Which he only now realizes is kind of weird, since he does have a girlfriend. Sort of.]

Okay, I've seen a bunch of people kiss. Close your eyes, okay?

[Close her eyes? CLOSE HER EYES?]

Uh... OK... [She closes them and then opens one.] Are you sure?

Yeah, I'm sure. Now close your eyes. It'll be easier for me to kiss you.

Fine. [She closes them, though her hands curl into fists as she wonders what on earth makes this better kissing than before.]

[He's hoping that it'll be easier for him.

And, now that Sarah isn't looking at him, it is easier to lean in and press his lips to hers. Maybe it isn't better--a kiss between reluctant participants who have no practical kissing experience isn't going to be great--but it's longer. That has to count for something, right?]

[It's certainly enough for the bot who showers them with confetti zips off to find more unwilling victims. Sarah pulls away, flushed and unsure.]

Um... I think I should go. Before another one comes back.

Yeah, that's--that'd be good. I'm going, too.

[He doesn't stick around for pleasantries. Kissing people isn't fun (he hasn't actually stopped to consider how odd that particular thought might be), and he would rather not do any more of it.

No offense to Sarah, of course.]
