Day 305 : MISTLETOE BOT MINGLE
[You won't hear them coming. You won't see their snare. The mistletoe bots are out and they're hunting you, two by two. You can run and you can hide, but eventually you will be caught, and then there's nothing left to do but kiss your way out!

Chapstick stations will be available.]

[ Dexter's been keeping something of a low profile recently. He hasn't been particularly shaken by the 'virtual reality' revelation - he'd never put much stock in the place being real to begin with, so if his delusion wants to take on an additional layer of unreality, that doesn't make much difference to him.

Of course, that doesn't mean he's eager to kiss anyone. At all. He's not particularly comfortable with close, intimate contact with anyone. It brings them too close, makes it a little bit easier to see cracks in his facade - particularly when it's already been weakened by his slipping grasp on control. He didn't realize what was happening in time, though, and he's out and about, tending to errands and getting out of the apartment for a while. His game with Rudy has been the most rewarding thing, and he believes if anything holds the key to breaking out of this construct, it's unraveling that... but the best approach to solving a puzzle is often to step back and get a wider view. Being too close to it all the time, that stops you from seeing the whole scope.

He does keep to himself, giving others space as they pass. He normally would, but it is perhaps a bit more deliberate once he takes notice of the bots. ]

[It's probably not a good day to take shortcuts, but Kitty still phased her way through an empty building instead of walking around it which means she comes out on the other side without knowing what's there. This isn't a huge deal especially with Data gone—no one to accidentally fry—since she's still phased, but it does put her closer to passers by.

So, have a girl walking through a wall like it isn't even there and then being nice and close, Dex.]

Hey, teach. [Sure she teaches too, but she attends his class, so why not?]

[ It's tough to startle Dexter - most people don't manage to get a jump on him in the first place, and if they do, he's good at keeping himself even and collected, getting his guard up and prepared to respond without pause.

Most people also don't walk through walls, which is why he actually stops dead in his tracks. It's a rare treat she's gotten there - his eyes even widen, his brows arching in surprise. Big reaction for him. ]

Hey. [ The initial response there was a bit detached, but eventually he does get his cool back - It really is a good thing he already thinks none of this is really happening. ] Handy trick.

[She smiles at the reaction or the way it evens out at least. She used to expect to scare people. For a time she even did it on purpose because if that was her goal she didn't have to feel bad about being feared. She could play the monster instead of being the hero thought of as a monster. She's given up some of those tricks in her time in prison or at least put them aside. You never know when you'll go back to and old bag of tricks. Some habits run deeper than others.]

It has a lot of perks. I make an impressive ghost at Halloween.

[ That gets an honest smirk out of him - fortunately he's seen stranger things here, even if he doesn't necessarily believe they're happening. ]

I would imagine.

[ I could certainly put talents like that to use, if only I weren't bound by the limits of physics. ]

If only we had Halloween here. Or actual dates.

[ Despite stopping to chat, he's keeping an eye out for bots - or so he thinks. He's almost certainly underestimating them. ]

[They are very underestimatable and highly adaptable. They wouldn't have survived this long if they made it easy for people to spot them and take them down.]

I guess we could always just declare some day Halloween. That's what the wardens seem to do when they want a holiday.

[ His arrogance is so likely to be his undoing, even if that undoing isn't fatal at the moment. ]

I guess we can always find out if they take requests.

I think they do, but I wouldn't spread that around. I don't think we want to know what some of the other inmates would start requesting. After all...

"KISS!" [Surprise, you're trapped!]

As I was saying after all, it was an inmate who made those. [Looking up at it hovering there all smugly.]

So easy to forget that some of us really do belong in here.

I guess they didn't rehabilitate her fast enough.

[Kitty smiles.] So, after the kiss, should I rate you aloud or keep it to myself? Simple 0 to 10 scale. [And she's joking.]

I prefer to collect comment cards.

[ A simple kiss, at least, is not a huge imposition. Not too much that can be gleaned from it, not too intense of a look into his psyche. Close contact always sets him on edge, of course, but if he focuses... he can probably keep that in check.

So, with a slightly tense undercurrent, he smirks with the quip before moving to acquiesce to the bot's demand. ]

I do have lovely penmanship. [It's a double smirk that heads into kissing territory it seems. Nothing fancy here at least not from her end. She manages not to bring her issues into this one. Just a kiss to lower the barrier, but that doesn't mean it's cold. Her lips are still as soft and warm as ever.]

[He's seen Dexter around, but he doesn't really know who he is. But he's kind of pretty, and he looks a bit serious and like he could use a bit of fun, so he gets a Jack ambling towards to him down the street with a little bot hovering near his shoulder, just waiting to strike.]

[ One of the basic rules Dexter always follows is maintaining complete awareness of his surroundings - it's both a necessity and an instinct when you partake in the sort of hobbies that he does. So he certainly notices when Jack is approaching him with a bot trailing.

This puts him in a difficult position. While he's trying to avoid any kind of kissing contact, he's aware that the extent of his averse reaction might give him away as somewhat abnormal just as easily. Being so discomforted with close contact is usually considered strange by others in and of itself. Still, kissing people he doesn't really know - that much is normal, right? He just has to not react too extremely.

So he stops in his gait and looks around quickly - there must be some way he can avoid this. He's not exactly sure how wide of a berth he has to give other people around these things, but he's ready to go on the defensive. ]

[Jack sees the guy pause and glance around a bit like a hunted rabbit, and he pauses himself for a moment. He's pretty high on the success of his days and the number of people he and his pet bot have managed to catch, but he's not a monster, and some things Reid said to him earlier have at least made him a bit more aware of the consent issues involved in him stalking people with a bot at his side, so he's not actually intending to inflict himself on anyone who obviously wouldn't be up for it.

That said, he's not aware of the extent of Dexter's aversion to close contact, so he doesn't know he's not up for it. And the bot is closing in on them fast as Jack approaches him.]

[ Once they get within a certain proximity, the bot will really make the call for them - and Dexter finds himself without an immediately available out, meaning he hasn't moved by the time the bot is too close for escape to be feasible. Anyone's control over whole the situation only goes so far, really. ]

I guess my luck was only going to take me so far.

[ Yep, flippant deflections are a better path to go down than visibly freaking out over the situation. ]

[Flippant deflections are totally the way Jack works too, so that one gets him a not unsympathetic smirk and twinkling blue eyes.]

Oh, I don't know about that. [Drawling, looking Dexter up and down as he edges closer in response to the forcefield that suddenly kicks him in the rear.] At least you get stuck with someone who can kiss really well!
