Day 255 — Mistletoe Mingle

((OOC: Well, I was assuming if he hadn't told her by now, that would get her asking! *g* But it looks like it's going to come out in the other thread, which is good, as it'll do him good to talk about it!))

He gives her a bit of a look at the idea that he's actually conforming for any other reason than that the wardens have given him no choice (even though he is so definitely doing it for Ianto now, more than for the wardens). Luckily, he's diverted by the appearance of the little bot, and Martha's rather gleeful reaction to it.

"I'm going to have to have words with young Sam; clearly he's not giving you enough kisses!" he murmured teasingly, eyeing the bot with an exaggerated sigh and holding out his arms to her, spreading his legs to offer her a knee to perch on. "Come on then, let's get it over and done with!"

"How often Sam does or doesn't kiss me is none of your concern," she replies smugly. "And talking to him about it will only scare him away."

She won't perch on his knee. Instead, she stays standing, making herself taller than him because, just once it'd be nice to kiss down instead of craning her neck.

"Much better than the last time these things came around," she murmured. "No ex-fiances to keep me distracted." Her fingers catch along his jawbone to hold his face steady so she can kiss him firmly on the lips.

“Ah, so he does kiss you, then!” he smirks, delighted to have caught her in an admission, wrapping his arm around her waist as she gets into position. It does feel a little odd having her towering over him, but Jack is nothing if not adaptable and, more, he relishes new experiences, so he doesn’t complain but just smiles as she palms his jaw and leans up to meet her halfway.

Kissing her feels different too, and it takes him a moment to realise that it’s because, these days, he’s not used to kissing anyone but Ianto. In fact, he hasn’t kissed anyone but Ianto since their ‘Christmas’ party several weeks ago (though he did make a pretty good go of it then, what with Ianto and Kitty’s mistletoe challenge).

It means he kisses rather more thoughtfully than usual, still warm and open and affectionate, but with more attention paid to how it feels and what he’s doing than his usual gung ho approach.

It's hard not to get lost in the kiss. In fact, Martha doesn't notice the bot when it tosses confetti at them and moves away to bug someone else. She's happy to experience this. This which is so different from the last time they kissed.

When she finally pulls away, she laughs breathlessly and combs her fingers through his hair to brush the confetti out. "You're different. I kind of like it."

Jack, for once, doesn’t get lost in the kiss. He enjoys it, certainly – he carries a lot of affection for Martha that could easily spark into something more were their circumstances different – but she’s right. He’s changed more than he realised.

He smiles as she combs the confetti out of his hair (hey, it’s hands in his hair; he’s never going to not enjoy that!) and returns the favour, partly because he’s just a little self-conscious and this avoids the requirement to actually meet her eyes for a moment.

When he finally does, the expected wry smile is back on his lips, though there’s still a warmth in his eyes. “Don’t tell anyone, eh?” he murmurs. “Can’t have my reputation killed like that!”

	It's certainly a different position for them, her in the role of comforter and him discovering rather belatedly that he might actually be in need of comfort. He tilts his cheek into her hand, and gives her a slightly wan smile. "Yes we will. I'm just... All this has really brought home to me how much I care about Ianto, you know? It's a little sobering." 	Her thumb brushes his cheekbone momentarily before she leans in and gives him another kiss, this one much more chaste than the last. "Then we'll find something." 	He pretty much melts under her caress, looking probably more vulnerable than she’s ever seen him before. Then he smiles as she returns to her chair and begins on the task of helping him.
