Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

[Worry is perhaps too strong a word, but she can't deny that she does have concerns, at times.] I do. At home I wondered if my actions were worth the lives they cost, and here I quite often feel even less confident. There is much about the prisons, whichever one, and the people in it that I don't understand. It can be difficult, being unsure that my actions will have the intended effect.

[She glances at Aidan, to see if perhaps her words are resonating.]

	Maybe? Sure as hell wouldn't have ended up in prison. [ Very few points on that crime list of his happened before Helix came into his life. ] Would've been easier in any case... stay home, take over th' farm... find some girl, get married. [ He's quiet for a while. If she'd asked this before his mental return to home, he would've said no. Life with Helix was dangerous but it was also the happiest he'd ever been in his life — it was exciting, adrenaline-filled and despite all the heartache, a whole lot of fun.

...Yeah, I think I would've. If I knew then what I know now, I don't think I would've gone.

[At first she only nods slowly along, takes it in. It's tragic that he has such feelings, and likely a fair amount of guilt because she knows how he loves Helix in spite of all that he's saying. She's not entirely a stranger to that feeling herself, as unusual as it is for Lacus to regret anything.]

[Nodding won't do. Lacus turns and embraces Aidan, from whatever angle he'll allow. She'd have a difficult time wishing for his life to have been different on his behalf because she believes in fate, though she also knows it can be cruel.]

A soul like yours deserves happiness. I wish I could give it to you.

[ She's not wrong about the guilt. There's a lot of it for many many reasons, one of the biggest ones being Helix: how would he react if he knew this? It wouldn't be good. Better keep it locked up so no one else gets hurt.

He shifts a little when she moves closer, turning to meet the hug head on. His arms wrap around her, giving her a tight, grateful squeeze. ]

Mm, that's very true. As a matter of fact, he rather hated me when we first met, and I wasn't certain what to make of him. As much as I expect they would both dislike the comparison, he reminds me of Helix. They push very hard to ensure that they won't get hurt.

[Though, she ended up hurting him anyway, in the end.] And they both would do anything for those they care about. A fact I will have to bear in mind more often.
