Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

[At first she only nods slowly along, takes it in. It's tragic that he has such feelings, and likely a fair amount of guilt because she knows how he loves Helix in spite of all that he's saying. She's not entirely a stranger to that feeling herself, as unusual as it is for Lacus to regret anything.]

[Nodding won't do. Lacus turns and embraces Aidan, from whatever angle he'll allow. She'd have a difficult time wishing for his life to have been different on his behalf because she believes in fate, though she also knows it can be cruel.]

A soul like yours deserves happiness. I wish I could give it to you.

[ She's not wrong about the guilt. There's a lot of it for many many reasons, one of the biggest ones being Helix: how would he react if he knew this? It wouldn't be good. Better keep it locked up so no one else gets hurt.

He shifts a little when she moves closer, turning to meet the hug head on. His arms wrap around her, giving her a tight, grateful squeeze. ]

Mm, that's very true. As a matter of fact, he rather hated me when we first met, and I wasn't certain what to make of him. As much as I expect they would both dislike the comparison, he reminds me of Helix. They push very hard to ensure that they won't get hurt.

[Though, she ended up hurting him anyway, in the end.] And they both would do anything for those they care about. A fact I will have to bear in mind more often.

[She can't be quite as amused about it though, since she knows Sougo doesn't like himself very much, and so what he sees of himself in Helix is what he's lashing out at.] Perhaps they'll eventually find a way past the difficulties. Yeah... that's what I'm hopin'. I mean, I really like Sougo. He's a good kid, once you get past all th'... grr attitude. Helix doesn't like me bein' friends with him though.

Helix will come to understand, or at the least accept it. It's your nature to find what good you can in people, and Helix wouldn't love you as he does if you were different. [It's from experience that she speaks, since Neil felt much the same way about some people she spent time with.]

It's almost tempting to try and get the four of us in a room. Sougo tends to behave better around me. [She smiles a touch wryly,] But they wouldn't much appreciate a setup, however much they need it.

I sure hope so... he seems so threatened by... well, pretty much everyone. Ain't like I'm gonna go off an' be with someone else just 'cause I like talkin' to 'em. [ Clearly more bothered by this than he might've let on. He doesn't like getting accused of cheating when he's not even physically capable of doing it in the first place. ]

Maybe we should set a trap. Lock th' four of us up somewhere an' stay there until they play nice.

[Of course Lacus catches the frustration for what it is, and it worries her as well. Helix has lost much, and he doesn't have that faith that Aidan has to let him keep his optimism despite the circumstances.]

Sougo likes to have a drink and watch action movies. Is that something Helix would enjoy? I'm sure we could arrange it. [She places a hand on Aidan's shoulder.] I'm sure if they knew how important it was to us that they bury the proverbial hatchet, they'd at least calm down a little.

[If she can maintain peace between worlds who wanted to exterminate each other, she can certainly settle things between two people she holds dear.]

[ He makes a noise that can only be described as humorless humor. A huff of air. ] That's exactly what Helix likes doin'... that's th' thing, I'm sure they'd get along just fine if they could stop bein' so darn stubborn about hatin' each other.

[Despite that Aidan's sweet admission hurts, Lacus smiles easily.] That settles it, we'll arrange something. Just as soon as we've managed to get things settled and get some liquor and proper movies.

They wouldn't go too far with us there and they couldn't be on any worse terms than they are now. In the best case, they'll come to some sort of truce and make everyone happier.
