Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

(OOC: OOC info. This mingle takes place in the Main shelter over the morning hours.

[Rebekah wakes up on the other side of the bunk and immediately she feels sluggish and unlike her normal self. This is not the apartment she lives in in the prison and when she tries to zoom from her top bunk she finds...she can't speed up at all. It's then that she notices the anklet -- the one that would render her basically human.

This just keeps getting better. and by that she means worse. She slowly climbs down the ladder, noticing a familiar face as she does so.
]

I've heard of prison changes before, but this is my first experience actually being involved in one.

[ the anklet and the slight sluggishness are alarming, to say the least. however, the person on the ladder from the top bunk is familiar and welcome. they may not know each other very well yet, but helen liked their short conversation the other day. that counts for a lot.

she hasn't managed to stand yet, preferring to let her senses take in everything before she does. ]

If all of my days are as action-packed as the last ones have been, I won't have to worry about being bored here. [ not that this is entirely a good thing. ]

Are you all right? [ she offers rebekah a frown, not because she's noticed anything strange about the other woman. this is simply how she works. she likes to be sure everyone's okay before attending to herself. ]

[At least it was someone she had gotten along with the one time they talked. It's not much, but it's something.

Rebekah will take it.
]

That's the goal, keep us as busy as possible. [Her tone is dry at best. She could do with some boredom, personally.

At the question, she shakes her head a little.
]

They're tampering with us again. [Her senses are cut off. Her speed, her strength -- her healing too she's sure. It leaves her with a vulnerability she doesn't like.]

[ it certainly is a good thing. better than other options. ]

I'll be the first to admit I don't particularly like being idle, but this is verging on overkill. [ for once in her life, helen agrees. she'd like a day off from all of this, honestly. one day to settle in. ]

Tampering? You mean the reason we're all a bit sluggish? [ she's assuming rebekah is as human as she is, as she's not one to judge someone's species until she's told. she simply treats everyone as an equal, no matter what they are. ]

I'm not a fan of boredom either but I'd almost prefer it to this.

[A break would be nice, at least.]

Not only that, but abilities seem to be cut off as well.

[Normally, she's not so open about being a vampire but right now doesn't seem like the time to hold back information.]

[ helen's eyebrows rise just a fraction of an inch at that admission. she's surprised to hear it and very curious, but that isn't a question she's about to ask. it isn't her business what anyone else is. if rebekah wants to tell her, she'll listen, but she won't push for answers. ]

That's disheartening, to say the least. [ makes her think of nikola and hope it isn't affecting him too badly. ] One would hope they'll let those return soon or I would imagine ones with abilities normally might start to feel the strain without them.

[ she understands how abilities work. not having them would be like not having an arm suddenly. it's disconcerting and she's now giving rebekah a look of concern. not because she's afraid. she isn't by a long shot. she's concerned that her acquaintance might be having a more difficult time than she's letting on. ]

When one arrives to Marina the anklet only stays on for the first day -- but whether the same rules apply here or not is anybody's guess really.

[And unnerving to say the least. Rebekah not only feels sluggish, weak and slow, but also disconnected. Everything feels dull in comparison to the sharp smells, sights, and noises she's used to. The lack of heightened senses may be what she notices most.]

I wouldn't be surprised if they're different.

[ she finally stands, reaching out one hand to gently and reassuringly rest it on rebekah's shoulder if allowed. a small smile accompanies that, determination glinting in her eyes. whatever the woman's abilities are, helen sees no reason not to reach out to help. ]

At the very least, we may as well see what's going on outside these walls. Can't hurt to familiarize ourselves with this new environment.

[the reassurance surprises Rebekah -- it's not something she's used to getting a lot of. But she doesn't brush it aside, instead she smiles in return.]

As we're stuck here for now, it'd be foolish not to.

[ the smile is encouraging. she looks a bit better than their last meeting. ]

Well, then. Shall we?

[ without waiting for much of a response, she heads for the door. time to see what else is beyond this.

it doesn't look like anything particularly special, but she's keeping an eye out as she walks through the residential area. is that a yard out there? ]

Not bad for a sudden transplant.

[She's adapting, it's something she tends to be good at. ]

We shall.

[She follows Helen outside, looking around curiously.]

No. It's much more...sparse than the previous prison, though.

[ adapting is a good thing, all-in-all. though the look of the place is... odd. helen frowns slightly as they move onward. ]

I have yet to decide if that's a good thing or not. It means much less for us to occupy ourselves with, yet would certainly explain the idea of "mandatory activities." [ she still doesn't like the sound of that. ]

The fact that they won't disclose what those activities are is less than comforting.

[Especially when everyone seems as groggy and powered down as they feel. Not a comforting combination.]

Indeed. For all we know, they could be asking us to tapdance. It's been decades since I've had to do that.

[ okay so they probably won't have to do that, but it can't hurt to break the tension a little, right? ]

Personally, I prefer a good waltz. I learned that one when I was quite young and never quite forgot it.

[ she figures they'll experience enough of a tense atmosphere later on. may as well cool off while they can. ]

It does seem to be a bit of a dying sport these days.

[ it's saying a bit about both of them, oddly enough, and helen wonders what rebekah's abilities are and if she has longevity, as well. she won't ask, though. that's rebekah's prerogative and not helen's business. ]

So many good things seem to die out over time.

[It is a little telling, and Rebekah can't help but wonder how old Helen might be though she won't pry just yet.]

[ helen glances at her for a moment, her expression one of sympathy. she understands the feeling of outliving everything and everyone around her. ]

Indeed. [ this isn't the happiest of topics. how about a change to something helen will actually continue. ] Either way, perhaps this will only last a few days and we can waltz on out shortly.

[ word choice intended. ]
