Summary: The first dinosaur encounter, and it's a big one.
Status: Open group thread in progress.
Warnings: Violence.
It wasn't unlike an earthquake.
The ground shook, gently at first. In the distance, those with the keenest eyes would be able to spot dark shapes bobbing up and down as they kicked up a sizable dust cloud, approaching from the northeast. The groans of fright and distress from the oncoming disturbance could barely be heard over the rumble of footsteps and the growing tremors. By the time the herd was close enough to be distinguished as dinosaurs, it was nearly too late to escape their path.
People scattered in every direction as the herd came nearer: some taking shelter in the airplane while others took their chances out in the open. In the end, it didn't matter where they went, because the herd went everywhere. The shunosaur herd went barreling through the split creeks, chased right into the crash site where they could do the most damage. Among them were two triceratops, caught in the uproar to escape the predators chasing them. The predators in question brought up the rear: three spinosaurs, two fully grown adults and one juvenile that nearly reached its parents in size. Their jaws snapped dangerously at the hindquarters and tails of the shunosaurs as they fled.
Screams of terror rose in response to the rapid approach of the dinosaurs, followed by a hasty evacuation. The safest direction was toward the treeline, as the dinosaurs steered south by southwest. The plane proved an inconvenient obstacle to their escape, and while the shunosaurs were not quite large enough to completely trample it, they and the triceratops were able to cause significant damage. The tail took the brunt of the assault, with dinosaurs impacting it either intentionally or accidentally, pushed into it by their panicked comrades. Those seeking to take shelter near the plane ran the risk of being crushed as it was shoved sideways.
As they neared the wreckage, one of the adult spinosaurs took a special interest in the plane. She stopped in her chase of the runaway meals, and instead roared threateningly at the large metal bird. Somewhere inside of it, or near it, she could smell meat. She assaulted the vehicle with prejudice, ripping away pieces of it, and crushing equipment both sensitive and durable alike. Her search was met with shrieks and screams of horror, made worse when her claws made contact with flesh, which only increased her frenzy. Nearby, her mate was feasting off a fallen shunosaur, and when the adolescent tried to push his way in he got a snap and snarl for his trouble.
So he, too, turned on the airplane. The stampede had moved beyond the crash site, but it had left the plane in pieces: the tail nearly completely severed and the belly split. His mother had the tail, so the adolescent went for the belly of the beast. His sinisterly long snout poked into the plane's belly and he snatched a human snack from inside. It was gone in a matter of three snaps and two swallows. After that, it was game over for the plane and everyone who'd tried to hide in it. The adolescent's biting and scrabbling with the main part of the plane eventually attracted his father, and between the three of them they left nothing but scrap metal, blood, and the occasional severed limb in their wake.
Seven passengers, perhaps believing that the plane would keep them safe by its sheer size, were proven wrong after becoming lunch, or else crushed by the plane as it was jostled around. An additional three passengers were caught up in the stampede and trampled to death, leaving behind indistinguishable, misshapen lumps of what had once been human. Before noon on the second day, occupants of seats 3D, 21B, 23F, 26E, 26F, 27C, 33F, 35F, 40D, and 44A were all eliminated.
Note: After 11:50am, the plane will no longer be intact. Any scenes taking place afterward must take into account the destruction of the plane, stampede, NPC deaths, and forced relocation of the surviving passengers. Anyone wishing to stay at the plane site during the stampede will be squished or eaten.
