Week Ten: Friday

Who: Alex and Serena
Where: Their Apartment
What: Making up is hard to do

The apartment smelled like food with only a little bit of burning scent mixed into it. Hey! He couldn't become a gourmet chef overnight, right? But he had tried and that was worth a lot in his book. And so far, the end product didn't taste too bad. It wasn't as good as what Serena could cook, but the point was that she didn't have to cook it. And not having to cook usually made pretty much anything taste better.

For the past couple of days, all Alex had been doing was sleeping and working. His time out with Prissy had worn him out, and left him a little bit mind-fucked. That girl was something else. And he was something else when he was with her. There was no way in hell he was going to tell Serena about that whole thing though. She would kick his fucking ass from one end of the Towers to the other and back again. Some things were best just kept to one's self.

Barefoot and wearing nothing but his plaid pajama pants and a wife beater, Alex found himself actually dancing around the kitchen. He had the Allman Brothers playing, Midnight Rider, blaring fairly loudly on the stereo in the living room. Singing along, he took the Ziti out of the oven and popped in the garlic bread. Serena would be home any minute. Of course the thought had barely entered his mind when he heard keys rattling in the door.

She would have little to no time to react before her purse was taken from her and tossed aside, and she was grabbed by one hand and pulled in for a twirl around the dance floor, or the foyer if you really wanted to be picky about it. He dipped her, pulled her back up, then he let her go. "Hungry?" He raised his voice enough for it to carry over the sound of the music.

Week Seven - Thursday

Who: Kaden and Serena
When: Early evening
Where: The Towers and then out for date night
What: Date night, duh!

Originally he'd just planned a casual evening for them...drinks at a little bistro downtown, a walk through the park....but somehow that hadn't seemed like quite enough. This was the woman he'd intended to marry, after all, he could do better than a walk. So a last minute change of plans had instead landed them a private dinner cruise - Serena mentioned she liked to sail, it seemed like a better way to spend their evening. He wouldn't be eating, of course, but he didn't mind watching her. Besides, cruising along the water seemed a little bit more romantic than the park. In the distant past, he could remember liking boats. Here was to hoping that had stayed true over time.

They'd agreed to head out after sunset, no truly specific time set, and since he didn't have far to go there was no rush. It was about an hour after the horizon darkened when he headed out, a bouquet of multi-colored miniature roses in his hand. At least he could make new memories - he hadn't forgotten that she'd like them in the short time span since he'd rushed over to verify what he'd hoped was a memory. He wasn't really the "dress up" type, but he'd figured this occasion warranted his best shot; he'd gone with black boots, jeans and a blazer in the same hue, over a deep gray striped button down. It was more than the typical for him and truly about as formal as he got without the equivalent of a gun to his head...at least, he liked to think so, couldn't remember, really. Maybe he'd been a suit guy in a 'past life,' but he seriously doubted it.

Tugging his door closed, he dropped the keys into his pocket and crossed the short distance to Serena's apartment. Raising a hand, he knocked aloud, jokingly hiding the flowers behind his back. Alright, so he couldn't remember dating....in about the last 50 years, but he couldn't be that out of practice, could he? He hoped not. From the other side of the door he could hear her pulse rate increase just slightly at his knock, picked up easily on the click of her heels against the floor as she headed his way. The scent of her perfume was easy enough to sense as well, a light smile gracing his lips as she pulled open her front door. "Evening," he grinned, sliding the bouquet out of hiding, "these are for you. And...," he reached into his pocket and produced a nicely sized chewbone, "for the man of the house." Kaden crouched, offering the treat up to Tony. "So," he gave the dog an affectionate scratch before he stood, "I'm ready to head out when you are. There's been a change of plans, by the way. The new destination is a surprise."

Week Seven: Tuesday

When: Evening
Where: Serena's apartment
Who: Serena and Alex

Serena really wasn't looking forward to having this chat but she really didn't have any other choice. Kaden was back in her life and that was something that she not only had to explain, but something that Alex was going to have to accept and get used to. Hopefully everything would go smoothly but when trying to convince someone of vampires she wasn't sure that smooth was an option. Oh well, here's to hoping! Though Serena wasn't going to base the outcome of this chat on hope alone.

After her shift she had headed to the store to get beer and the makings for Alex's favorite meal. Hey, nothing wrong with trying to soften the guy up a bit, right? Now whether or not it would actually work was a completely different story but she had faith in her abilities. Besides, it wasn't like he could stay mad at her forever. And eventually he was going to have to deal with reason and yeah.

When she heard the sound of keys jingling, she stopped what she was doing at the stove and headed to the fridge to grab a beer. Oh yeah, she was going to start this by liquoring him up or at least giving him a decent buzz. "Hey, how was work?" she asked nonchalantly as she handed the bottle over. Nothing like a bit of small talk to dance around the purple elephant in the corner of the room. "I hope you're hungry, I've made your favorite..." A hesitant yet bright smile was flashed as she did her best not to look nervous. Please oh please let this go well.

Week Seven: Monday

Who: Alex, Kaden and Serena
When: Night
Where: The Old Town Towers
What: There could be a smack down

Things were going pretty well for Alex since he had moved to Seattle. He had gotten laid by a beautiful woman. The sex of which was beyond incredible and had exhausted him for days. He had gotten to spend a little quality time with his sister, though not nearly enough. He had found a job. And at his job, he had made a few friends, two in particular that really did him some good. Johnny had a garage at his house that he gave Alex free use of and Paul had a junkyard that was like a restoration artist's wet dream, giving him license to take anything he wanted from the place. A day after that, as if it were meant to be, a beauty of a body fell into his lap. Now, in addition to working all night, he was working during the day as well, at Johnny's garage, using parts from Paul's junkyard to restore the classic beauty that Steve had sold him for a hundred bucks. He was practically in heaven.

Tired on his feet having spent the entire day at the garage, Alex had gotten a call asking him to come in because someone had called out. And even though he was exhausted, overtime paid a hell of a lot of money, so because of that, he had agreed and dragged his wasted ass out of the bed. Serena was still at work when he got out of the shower to get dressed, so he had taken the dog out for her like he always did when she was gone for long periods of time and was heading back up to the apartment to put him back inside before he took off when Tony, completely out of character for the dog, yanked the leash out of his hand and took off barking.

"Fuck!" Alex muttered as he exhaled a sigh. "Tony, ya asshole, come back here!" He said, taking off after the dog, following the sound of his paws on the floors to try to catch him and take him home. At least he was going in the right direction instead of trying to run back outside. Maybe Serena had come home while they were outside and he had just missed her and Tony smelled him and was going to go track her down.

The footfalls stopped just before Alex rounded a corner and there Tony was, sniffing some man who was petting him. "Come here, you mangy mutt." He said, sighing as he shook his head. "Sorry man." He addressed the man, looking up at him. Why did he look so familiar? Alex had met Kaden only a handful of times so it would take a minute to come to him, but for now, he had a brow arched and was watching him carefully, trying to figure out exactly why he knew that face.

Week Six - Monday

Who: Serena and Kaden
Where: Her apartment
When: Evening
What: Kaden has what he hopes is a memory

The blinding headache had come on so slowly he hadn't even realized until it was sharp enough to have him reaching for the kitchen counter to stay upright. Vampires didn't have migraines....so what the hell was this? Kaden could feel a thin sheen of cool sweat lining his forehead as he raised a hand, rubbing futilely at his temples as if that might somehow vanquish the damn pounding behind his eyes. The light from the kitchen's overhead lighting was suddenly too bright, too intense for his already
sensitive eyes and there was no choice but to close them in an attempt to block out the glare.

Light shouldn't still show when you close your eyes, light shouldn't be inside your eyelids....ok, so something was definitely wrong here. That dull, throbbing pain was escalating quickly, searing through his skull until it felt as if someone was trying to bust free of it. Kaden leaned forward a bit further, bracing himself against the kitchen counter as the edges of his vision whitened, growing brighter and brighter even as the pain reverberating through his head seemed to worsen.

There came a moment when everything froze - when the pain stopped and the light that crept through closed lids couldn't get any brighter - and it was then that he realized this wasn't just any weirder-than-shit headache. There were flowers....fucking flowers....and that itself made no sense...until...there-was that Serena? Serena holding flowers, what looked like roses...little, tiny roses.....and her smile...glancing up at....him? What that was it was? That's the way it seemed at least. But why...was this a memory? Could it be the first key that might unlock the rest? Could he be so lucky? Flowers....that's what he tried to burn into his already fried brain in that moment....don't forget the flowers - he willed himself - don't forget the fucking flowers.

And then he was falling....vision going black again. He crashed against the floor, but by then. Kaden was already unconscious. When he came too his head was, mercilessly, pain free - not to mention the fact that his vision was back to normal. Flowers. He had to find out what the flowers meant.....why would they be the first thing he remembered? Pushing himself up from the floor, he grabbed his keys and dashed out the door, hurrying to Serena's apartment. He raised a hand and knocked solidly, hoping she was home, praying she would have an answer...

Week Five: Wednesday Night

Who: Chris and Serena
Where: UW Medical Center
When: night

Chris had been stocking the supply closet at the far end of the west hall on the third floor before he became distracted by the storm raging outside. Admittedly, it had never taken a great deal to distract him, and it was even worse now after his encounter with the woman called Hesper. He was more nervous than usual these days, and while at work he took even more pains to hide from the co-worker who took special delight in tormenting him. Vernon Johnson was his own personal Hell, but even he paled next to the specter of the determined blonde woman who'd bullied her way into his apartment that night a couple of weeks ago.

He still was not entirely sure how he felt about what had happened, beyond frightened and nervous and besieged by presentiments of doom.

While arranging medical supplies and fresh towels and gauze on the shelves in their appointed places, his cart next to him and his presence hidden by the open door, he'd heard the boom of thunder, and that had drawn him out to the window that was located next to the closet. It had been storming for hours now, and the rain was torrential, and its effect on Chris was almost hypnotic. He was a good worker, and he always did his job, but somehow the rain drowned out this imperative in his mind. He stood with his back to the hallway, staring out at the driving sheets of water blown past the muted glow of the halogen lights in the parking lot. Everything was darker, more mysterious, and the sound of the downpour made him feel insulated from the entire world.

He thought about drawing the pattern the rain made on the window, and it was mildly frustrating that he'd just gotten to work; he had hours and hours to be here yet. By the time he left and got back to his apartment, the moment would be gone, as would the darkness. It would not be the same. He needed something to clear his mind, something to sketch besides the swirl of dark images that had somehow invaded his mind since he'd met Hesper. He drew water dripping from rocks, fire, smoke swirling around a figure with black, shiny-looking wings and claws. The drawings filled his sketchpad like fever dreams. Chris hated them, but he could not seem to force himself to stop sketching them.

It was like he imagined being haunted might be.

Forked lightning split the sky, and he shivered a little, his fingers pressed to the cold glass. Yards away at the nurses' station, someone laughed, but he did not hear it. His reflection was a shadow with non-discernible features, seeming to him almost to be someone else entirely. Just another ghost, wishing to be lost in the storm. Wishing never to be found.

Week Four : Sunday

Who: Alex and Serena
When: Afternoon
Where: The Towers

It felt good to be out of Lake Tahoe. The drive to Seattle was.. pretty gorgeous. It was his first time ever traveling up that way and he had thoroughly enjoyed the drive. It made the more than 13 hour drive seem like it lasted only minutes. Actually, the drive was horrible. He had started out yesterday afternoon but by the time he had made it to Eugene, Oregon he was exhausted and had ended up spending the night in a motel out there. He woke up early in the morning and finished the rest of the drive, making it into Seattle shortly after noon and getting lost trying to find his way to the towers. It was just approaching 2pm when he finally found where he was supposed to be.

He parked his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS Z28 right in front of the large building before climbing out of the car. The jeans he wore were well worn, ripped in places and faded everywhere. He wore with it a white t-shirt that showed the tell-tale signs of many grease-laden incidents. His hair was a bit of a mess and his face stubbly but there was no denying that he was an incredibly handsome guy. He pulled a pack of smokes out of his pocket along with a zippo and placed on between his lips, lighting it up to inhale a deep drag before pulling out his cellphone and dialing his sister's number.

The phone rang once, twice, and then he heard her voice on the other end. "I'm out front. Get your ass downstairs and help me." He remarked, ashing this cigarette as he walked around behind the car to the U-Haul tag-along and opened up the lock. "I have to have this thing back by seven or they'll charge for an extra day."

Week Four: Saturday

Where: The Towers
When: Lateish night
Who: Serena and Kaden

It had been one busy week. After the basketball game with Nox on Tuesday, Serena had hopped a flight back home and got busy packing her life up. Wednesday and Thursday were spent packing up what stuff she still had out there and rather than having it go by moving company, she just shipped it on a two day back to her hotel room. There wasn’t much left after the stuff she could take in her luggage so why not, right? Any furniture in Kaden’s apartment was sold or given away and Ryan was sweet enough to take any bigger pieces of music equipment and hold onto it until she could talk to Kaden again and see if he wanted or not. Other than that it was mostly just trinkets and paperwork, though the contents of Kaden’s old office were a lot less after she cleaned it out a few months prior.

Once everything was packed up and shipped off, she said goodbye to her friends and hopped another flight back late Thursday night. Poor Tony was a trooper through it all and she could tell that he knew that things were about to change. Only a few hours of Friday morning were dedicated to sleep and once she had gotten some food into her, she was off and running. The rest of that day was spent picking out new furniture and arranging for it to be delivered or picked up but the newest friends in her life. Then of course there was arranging for her brother to drive up the rest of her stuff from Tahoe and she was ecstatic about that! It had been far too long since she had seen him and hopefully he would be able to stay for a few days.

This morning consisted of picking out new bedding and linens and going to the store for beer and bottled water. If Hale and Nox were going to give up their afternoon helping her, she was going to make sure they were well hydrated and fed. So that meant pizza was ordered ahead of time as well. Serena was a planner, and definitely thorough if nothing else! So that was her afternoon and once the guys had left, it was back to the hotel to grab Tony and bring him to their new home.

Since taking a cab back and forth was not at all practical, Serena had arranged for a rental car earlier that morning and got busy shoving the boxes from New York in the back. She really needed to just buy her own car but that was something she was going to save for when Alex was in town. Tony was with the first trip over and she couldn’t help but notice something was off when she brought him upstairs. For some reason he kept trying to get into the apartment next door and she literally ended up dragging inside the right one. He was a strange one sometimes, but she was too busy and preoccupied with everything to give it too much thought.

It was fairly late when the last trip over was made and unfortunately she was struggling with one of the heavier boxes as she made her way up the sidewalk. Packing most of her books in the same box probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do but she overestimated her own strength and ended up sending the box tumbling to the ground before she ever made it up the stairs. “Crap.”

Week Three: Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Who: Nox and Serena
When: Tuesday evening
Where: Starting at the Towers and heading to the Sonics game

Nox jogged into the bathroom for a quick shower. He'd spent the last hour tidying up the apartment, and he didn't much care to smell like Pinesol when Serena arrived. Women wore the strangest variety of scents, some that Nox really couldn't stand, but he was quite sure Pinesol wouldn't appeal to her nose. The apartment had been messier than normal, and it really needed a scrubbing. The last few days had been busy and stressful for Nox, so he was grateful to be spending some time away from work tonight with someone who could hold a conversation that didn't include phrases like "rate of decay", or "revenge killing", or "mutilated corpse". Real downers. They came with the job, and Nox did live his job, but it was nice to break away sometimes.

He scrubbed off his stress, along with the smell of household cleaning products, and hopped out of the shower, quickly dressing. A basketball game called for casual comfort, so he threw on jeans and a long sleeve, black, cotton shirt. When he emerged from his bedroom and checked his watch, he realized he needed to sprint down to the lobby. Serena would be arriving any second.

Not wasting a moment, Nox took the stairs. He was fast, and he found he often made it to the ground floor on foot faster than he would in the elevator. Running from the stairwell and into the lobby, he looked down at his watch again and started walking around the lobby to see if she'd snuck in early. His phone hadn't rang, but maybe she was just waiting politely.

Week Two: Friday, February 15th

Who: Nox and Serena (and Hale joining)
When: 3:15 AM
Where: Totally awesome 24-7 Thai restaurant... yay!

Nox had been on the other line when he heard a beep of another call coming through. He couldn't switch over. He was talking to the M.E. about some autopsy results, and they took precedence over just about everything else at the moment. The second he ended the call and saw that he had a voicemail, he listened. His face had been quite serious just a moment before, not happy to learn that the cause of death wasn't blunt force trauma, but poisoning instead, making the husband look a lot more guilty than before. But now, as he listened to a chipper voice asking him about Thai food, he busted out a broad smile. That was a message worth saving... at least for the time being.

Seemed strange that she was calling so late/early, but maybe she was a night owl like him. He preferred the overnight hours, and even when he wasn't working, he could often be found up late in front of the TV just passing the time. That's where he was right now. Camped out in his boxers and a tank top, a half eaten turkey sandwich on the coffee table beside an empty bottle of beer, and the remote in his hand... he was the very model of chilling out. There was also a great deal of case work spread out on the the couch cushions to his left and right, as well as under his sandwich plate. He had yet to nail down a solid suspect in the case of the murdered seven year old from the week before. Sure, there were a few persons of interest, but not enough evidence to actually arrest any of them. Something was missing, and he was determined to figure out what it was. He couldn't get a decent bit of sleep until the elusive clue was found.

Still, maybe a break would do him some good. Nox had a good memory for numbers, typically remembering a string of them after only hearing it once. Picking up his cell again, he quickly dialed Serena's number and waited for her to answer. When she did, he couldn't help but smile again at the sound of her voice. "Hey. It's Nox. And I know a great Thai place."

Week Two - Saturday

When: Saturday night
Where: Alibi Room's main stage
What: ROARKE's show
Who: Anyone who wants to come!

They were scheduled to take the stage in ten minutes, the opening band still warming up the crowd that was quickly gathering inside the Alibi. Behind the scenes each member of ROARKE was tending to whatever pre-performance ritual they might have. Someone was bouncing repeatedly on the balls of their feet and judging from the soft clack of drumsticks to hardwood, yet another member was warming up in the 'dressing room.' Kaden tended to center himself rather quietly before a gig - standing off to the side, just where he could see the crowd, watching their reactions, getting a read for them. Not every audience was the same, you could read them and what they wanted if you paid enough attention. He did - it was one part of the many things that made him a good frontman. It was as if he had a sixth sense for the varying crowds, always knew exactly what to give them.

Eventually their warm up act stepped off stage and the small sound crew that worked on the bar's stage moved to arrange their equiptment. They'd soundchecked earlier in the day, would do so briefly again, but everything should be ready to go. A set list was taped to the amp facing his mic and from where he stood, Kaden's eyes traced over the numbers he'd picked again, just to be sure. There was a ballad or two they'd need to take out, tonight's group wasn't the type for anything too slow, too mellow. They were wired up and wanted something that was truly going to give them a reason to move. Keeping it fast paced and loud was clearly the way to go.

He was always the last to take the stage - if he had any tradition it was that. The lights would dim to near complete darkness as the others made their way out, tinkered around for a moment to make sure that everything was still in tune, still set to go. He came last, sliding up to the mic without the glare of those blasted spotlights on him, readying himself for the glare that was sometimes almost too much; a vampire's favorite place to be was definitely not under a complete set of high powered lights. When they rose tonight it was slowly enough that his eyes could adjust, that he could prepare himself for the brightness ahead. They revealed nothing particularly spectacular, the group all on stage ready to go, their frontman clad as usual in nothing more than a pair of jeans, a henley and one of many black jackets he tended to sport. That didn't stop the female portion of expressing their gratitude, not that it was all for him of course.

"Ladies and gentleman," the sound man's voice came over the system announcing the band as Kaden adjusted the mic stand, "please give it up for ROARKE!" They wasted no time with silly on-stage banter, it wasn't why people where there anyway. They wanted music, they wanted it to be good, and the band was going to waste no time in giving it to them. Hand wrapped around the mic, the count began - it wasn't long until Kaden's voice was filling the bar, floating out into the night.

Week Two: Tuesday, February 12th

Who: Serena and Nox
When: Afternoon
Where: Seattle Aquarium

Nox had spent most of the morning at the station trying to put a dent in a massive pile of paperwork on his desk. Extreme concentration and a slow day in the crime world had allowed him to make a bigger dent than he'd expected. By the time afternoon rolled around, and he was able to take a lunch break, he decided he needed something to soothe the senses and reward himself for a job well done. The aquarium nearly always helped in that regard. It was dark, quiet, and watching the fish put his mind at ease. He was particularly enamored with the underwater dome exhibit.

Leaving the station, he took a cab to the aquarium. Nox came here a lot, so he actually had a membership, something Hesper laughed about until she was blue in the face. Yeah, so he was a bit of a nerd. It didn't bother Nox. He always enjoyed himself at the aquarium, and even the simple act of handing his membership card to the teen at the entrance managed to put a smile on his face. Walking in, he headed straight for the underwater dome to park for the next hour.

To ensure the tranquility of the environment wouldn't be disrupted, Nox switched his phone to vibrate. There was always a chance he'd get a call or text from work, and he didn't want to ruin the ocean experience for anyone else in attendance. As he stood before the glass, watching the poetic movement of the animals on the other side, he caught sight of a little girl to his right who pressed her nose right up against the glass. The blond's eyes were impossibly wide, and their blue hue was intensified by the reflection of the water in them. His smile grew by miles as he watched her watching the sea creatures. Having spent much of the last two weeks working on the case of a murdered seven year old, it helped to see a child alive and happy. This was why he worked so hard... to keep such terrible crimes from happening, and to ensure justice was served when the worst did occur.

Week One: Saturday

Who: Serena and Alphonsine
When: 7ish
Where: Alibi Room
What: Serena is trying to track down ROARKE.

The past few days had been something of a blur and it was amazing that she had ever found time to stop and take a breath. When she wasn't meeting with the director of the hospital, she was combing the city's bars and clubs in an attempt to locate Kaden's new band. It felt like she was always two steps behind because they had either just played or hadn't booked another gig. Striking out over and over was frustrating to say the least and there was only so much venting she could do over the phone to Ryan. What was she going to do if she couldn't find him? She needed to get her closure and there were only so many meetings she could take before she would have to give the hospital a decision. A hospital that she was unfortunately growing very fond of at the moment.

Today had been the one day that she didn't have a meeting and so she decided to spend the morning and good part of the afternoon bundle up and outside with Tony. The poor guy had been locked up in their hotel room for most of their stay so far and there was no way she could keep him inside any longer. There was no question that he appreciated the time out to explore the city, the big guy practically drug her around the first hour. It was also good for her because it gave her some time to just think about everything. Not that she didn't do that constantly anyway but it was nice to be able to just wander around with her thoughts.

When it was finally too cold to stay outside any longer, she and Tony headed back to their room for some dinner. While the room service was good, she did miss having a kitchen and some home cooked food to eat. If she decided to stay in the city any longer she would seriously need to consider renting an apartment or something because this hotel living just wasn't going to cut it after a while. Once dinner was finished and sent away, she traded in her sweater for a royal blue turtleneck and black pea coat and headed on out again.

The first bar she hit was a complete waste of time, the bartender didn't seem to know anything expect how to maybe mix a drink and even that was questionable. The second wasn't as bad but she still got nothing. The third was some place called the Alibi Room and seemed promising enough considering it at least had a stage. Fortunately it was still early enough that there weren't too many people there but at the same time there were enough that she would hopefully be able to get some information.

Serena had been in the process of scanning the crowd for someone who looked like they might know their music when she turned, bumped into a blonde woman and promptly sent the flyers she had been holding falling to the ground. "Oh God I'm so sorry," she said quickly as she bent down to retrieve the brightly colored pieces of paper. And that's when she saw it... ROARKE spelled out in bold lettering with a date at the bottom. Maybe this was her lucky day after all. "Here," she said as she handed a stack of flyers back with a small smile. "Sorry again." A light chuckle that was slightly nervous parted her lips. "So is band any good?" she asked motioning to the top sheet. "I'm new to the city and always looking to find someone good to go and see."

Week One: Tuesday - Narrative

It had only taken a few days for Serena to pack up her life and hop a plane to Seattle. At first she had considered just not going but the longer that she stared at his picture on that stupid website the more she realized that she just couldn’t let go. Knowing that he was alive, well as alive as a vampire could be, was like a stab to the heart. If he had really wanted out of their relationship so badly he could have just told her rather than having faked his own death and moved across the country. That alone should have kept her away but closure was an elusive bitch now and she wanted no, needed answers. Anger wasn’t something she generally felt but it quickly began to bubble up inside and threatened to consume her.

As far as her friends and family were concerned, she was heading to Washington to check out a hospital that was interested in having her become part of their team. It wasn’t a lie, she had gotten an offer and what the hell, she might as well check them out while she was there, but that wasn’t the main reason for her sudden departure. They just didn’t need to know the true reason. It was hard enough to deal with without having to hear the opinions of everyone else on the matter.

Ryan had been the only one she called and he had been sworn to secrecy until she had a chance to figure out what the hell was going on. He had offered to go with her or even in her place but she refused. This was something that she needed to handle on her own and he respected that. He had even offered to watch Tony for her but not knowing how long she would be gone couldn’t do that and instead made arrangements for him to come with her. So she let her landlord know that she’d be out of town for a while, put all of her mail on hold and headed for Seattle with the fire only a woman scorned could possess.

It was late Tuesday night when her plane finally touched down and after retrieving her dog, she hopped a shuttle to her new home. The pair was exhausted once they finally made it to the hotel and the only thing on her mind was a hot shower and a warm bed. Tony had the same idea and curled up after a quick bite.
