[Again he tries. He doesn't want to go blurting her name across the journals, nor does he particularly want to go talking to people in the quest to find her.]

Iris?

[If that doesn't work, he'll leave a voice mail on the numbers he has for her.]

[Locked to Winnie O]

What the hell is going on?

[Public]

I'm moving. A house half way down the block just exploded.

Christ. Be careful.

What else? Bad else?

All the shootings aren't normal either.

What do you mean? What's going on?

Okay, just ... explain things to me like I'm particularly dense. I am really not familiar with this level of violence. We don't do this in London, and I don't know what connections to draw that don't come out of American telly programmes.

Big cities always have violence, it's just their nature. Too many people crowded into too small a space and -- things happen. We get a lot of tourists so we tend to have more robberies and assaults than murders.

With the number of murders last night, it was a big move. Either mob or gang would be my guess.

Mobsters? That's still a thing? I thought that was in the 20s or something?

Jesus. What do you need, what can I do? What should I do?

Yeah, it's still a thing. A big thing. And given how quiet my phone has been today, I'm guessing mob and not gang.

Stay somewhere where it's safe. There'll be a press release soon and we'll have a bodycou -- some information then. That will usually tell us who did it and who they're going after.

I was just going to bunker down with my sister and my dog and not go anywhere today at all. That seemed wisest. I don't want to get sucked into something accidentally. I try to do my stupid nonsense on purpose now.

You're okay, though? I think I'm a hopeless worrier. But all things considered...

Probably a good idea. Next time you go out, make yourself an emergency kit. If you google disaster supplies kit, you should find exactly what you need.

I'm okay and Spot's okay. Just... you know. Exploding house. There's not a way to prepare for one of those.

If things are too much, well. I know we're not really acquainted or anything, but you'd be welcome here, you and Spot both. Funny how the voices change your sense of people and your relationship to them. I think Legolas would be very upset if something happened, here. A distraught Elf is a lot to handle, really.

[...] Thanks. I'm actually looking into moving further out, but [...] I'm not leaving the city.

[A longer pause.] It's [...] unusual. I had two other people before Aragorn, one that didn't speak at all and the other, well. He had three ex wives and a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas, but he didn't really have [...] friends. Just people he'd slept with and people he hadn't slept with yet.

It's [...] different. Him having friends. It's not bad, but I know he'd be upset if something happened to you too.

And he'd loathe seeing Legolas distraught.

You sound really accustomed to this. I wish I was. It's all kind of overwhelming at times. A lot of times. I don't know, I sound like a moron, sorry. It's just nothing I've ever been prepared for. And he's so ... weird, really. The not human thing is difficult. And taxing.

I'm not. God, I'm not. Honestly, im just happy to get someone i like. And you don't sound like a moron.

The first guy I had-- the first person I met was his ex wife that thought he was the worlds biggest ass. He was. Having someone that's likable is a good thing.

I'm not even an old hand at this. There are a few around that are though, they could maybe help more.

I just want to be able to not feel so drained when he finishes beyond the door. It's like he uses every physical resource possible, and I'm left picking up scraps for a few days after. Is it just part of being an Elf or something? (God I feel weird writing this, like it's totally average or something!) I need to rewatch the bloody films, I never really paid attention to them when they came out.

It may be part of being an Elf. Aragorn comes back dirty nearly all the time, but I usually feel a bit more tired after being on his side of the door. Not enough to mind, really, cause I don't have a cadre of ex-wives that hate my guts after me.

[...] There are the normal doctor questions I could ask you, but those might be weird.

Avoiding a cadre of angry exes is always a bonus, I think. I consider it a life goal, overall.

Ask if you think you might have some ideas, it's okay. I've spent the past 7 years or so in and out of doctor's offices. Those kinds of questions don't faze me, honestly.

First guy collected them. A little dirt is always going to be better than exes. Always.

Have your doctors run a panel on you to find out where your vitamins are at? What's your general caloric intake per day?

Not since I left England in 2007. I feel like I have a pretty decent diet, fairly healthy. Don't eat meat or animal products of any kind, don't smoke, don't really drink anymore, except for a glass of wine here and there. I try to a decent caloric intake, but I might be low. I eat a tonne of veg, though, so that's probably covered.

You might want to get that looked at, just to make sure you aren't deficient in anything there.

I'm not as worried about your vegetable intake as I am with your protein. Since you don't eat meat, are you careful to make sure you're getting enough?

That's the same thing my sister's worried about. I've had considerable pain spikes lately, I thought the tiredness was related to that. Add in the door weirdness, and I'm just drained. Maybe I should try to ease some of that back in. I just thought vegan was the healthiest thing you could do for yourself?

It is healthy, but you have to make sure that you're getting all the nutrients you're missing since you've given up meat. There's the iron in red meat, omega fatty acids in fish, protein -- your body still needs all of that.

I suspect at the very least you may need to increase your protein intake, because Legolas is so active.

I'll try to ease some back in. My sister's a ballet dancer, she's got a lot of things about eating for energy, I suppose that's what I need.

Why is this rubbish only patently obvious when someone else points it out?

I'm a doctor, she's an athlete. Athletes tend to have to pay closer attention to this information than others.

[He's grinning.] If it's animal welfare you're worried about, there are a couple farms that are local. I like them.

Yeah, it's a concern, absolutely. I don't like the idea of causing harm to anyone or anything. I mean, I wouldn't dream of hurting my dog. Why should I make anything else suffer for my benefit if I can at all avoid it? Vaguely Buddhist, I suppose, but it makes you think carefully about the world and what you do in it.

I think red meat's kind of off the table, though. It pretty effectively grosses the Elf out, just the idea of it, and he doesn't hesitate to let me know when he doesn't like something.
