Summary: After a frustrating day, Julie goes for a walk to the beach.
It was a relatively nice night out, a little cool and breezy and cloudy, but it wasn’t anything Julie wasn’t used to. She’d lived in Washington State her whole life, and she loved the cooler weather here. Her family had taken a vacation down to California the summer before the radiation fiasco, and even though it had been during May, it had been stiflingly hot. No, thank you. She was more than happy to stay in the Pacific Northwest, where the weather was tolerable. The rain didn’t even really bother her, as she was used to it and actually really loved going out in it.
Despite being more than used to the weather, she did put on a light sweater at her mom’s urging before she left the house, and she played with the zipper on it as she walked down the street and toward the coast. It was too late and too cold for swimming in the ocean, but she did love to walk on the beach, and she would probably be able to get away with taking her shoes off for a little bit as she did.
As she reached the coast, she could feel the breeze coming in from the ocean, and she closed her eyes and breathed it in, marveling a bit at how just that could calm her frazzled nerves from dealing with rude people at work earlier. She sat down a few feet away from where the water lapped at the sand and leaned back on her arms as she looked up at the sky, trying to spot the few stars visible through the clouds. Yes, a walk had been a great idea.
