In the moments of silence, Erik concentrated on the sound of the waves breaking on the shore in front of them, so that he wouldn't be drawn into thoughts of the past. There had been a time, back when his power had first developed, that he'd been terrified of what would happen if anyone found out, when he'd practiced in secret and learned to control what he could go do. It was part of why he used his power so often and obviously now - just having the freedom to do so was still a thrill.
Her question caught him a bit off guard, and he had to think about it for a moment. "I spend a lot of time at work, but it's enjoyable so it doesn't actually feel like a job," he said, starting with the easiest thing. "There almost always someone out on the field if I want to go play football or soccer or something. And I've got my books, so that's a way to pass the time." He shrugged. "I'll come down here to the beach or go hiking in the forest on occasion. I'm pretty boring really," he said with a bit of a laugh.
A though occurred to him, and Erik asked, "You must still be in school, right? Any thoughts on what you're going to do after that's done?"
