Good morning.

Our next town hall meeting will be on Saturday, March 26th, 3pm at [location].

Attendance is not mandatory in any way, but everyone is very welcome. We will not be doing any lengthy introductions this time, but if anyone has not attended before and would like to introduce themselves to the community, you are encouraged to do so.

If anyone would like a copy of last month's minutes, you can let myself or Miss Citizen Becket Liberty know and we can arrange that.

I have noted already that we will be hearing from Applejack regarding agricultural needs, and Dr Cuddy will be speaking on behalf of the medical staff. If anyone else has any points for discussion they would like raised, you can let myself or Katherine know in advance and it will be added to the order of business to ensure we cover it. There will be time set aside for open discussion, so don't worry if you don't get your point 'in' on time.

Maryanne, are you able to provide snacks again?

Maria, are you able to set up the holographic interpreter again?

- Alexander Hamilton.

I noticed at the last meeting that not all the topics raised were appropriate for younger children.

Do you think it might be a good idea to have some childcare provision in place for parents who want to attend? I'd be happy to supervise the little ones.

I hadn't considered it, in all honesty.

Sure, anything that can make it more accessible and inclusive has got to be a good thing. Do you want to take the lead on it? I have no idea what constitutes a kid-friendly space these days.

I can try, but I'm not the best person to ask about 'these days' either! I know what my children would like.

You've got over a century on me! But that's a point, maybe we can the kids what they'd like, within reason.

Do you have children? Trust me, that isn't a good idea. You'll get impractical answers, and it's not good to let them think they can dictate things.

I do, yes! But he is only 2, so not particularly forthcoming with strategic planning yet.

That's wonderful! But yes, wait until he's just a little older and you'll see what I mean.

I don't know if this will be helpful or not, but my son alters what the children heard and will hear, from adult rated to more kid friendly. But I didn't notice anything that was brought up that he would have had to alter. But then, I'm a rather modern Mom.

I hope your son wouldn't alter what my children heard without asking their mother's permission first. That might be the opposite of helpful and reassuring.

If you're happy with everything then you don't have to use the childcare. It might be helpful for some others, that's all. Last meeting we had talk of a shooting, a man who had become a ghost talked about a very worrying situation, and a few people shared things when they introduced themselves that I didn't want my little ones to hear. Those people should be allowed to say what they want at the meeting, so this is one solution.

My son is seven years old, and did it for his brothers and sisters. So no he didn't ask permission. He altered things that were of the adult nature, that would have done mental harm, or led to questions they are not quite old enough to have the answers to.

I'm going to tell you some cold hard facts right now. Worse things happen at this station than what happened at the meeting. Even the weird part about a man being in another man's body. Now you and your kids can learn about it in a safe environment, like the meeting, where they're not likely to be hurt, or they can learn in a dangerous environment when it is literally a life and death situation.

[info]hannahhale

There is a very big difference between your son altering things for his brothers and sisters, presumably with your consent, and using his power to do the same to unrelated children without asking their parents first.

Don't patronise me. I don't know what you have against the idea of an alternative space for children that nobody will be forcing you or your family to use. Clearly we have different ideas on what is appropriate for children to hear, if you saw nothing wrong with anything that was discussed at the last meeting. You parent your children as you think is right, and I'll do the same.

I'll ask you this, how much control did you have over your powers when you were seven years old?

Sweetheart I am not patronizing you, in fact I'm being quite the bitch. I have no problem with whatever you do with your children, I was doing just as I said, giving you the cold hard truth.

Mine started later than that. A couple of my children started young. I taught them to control it, and when they couldn't, I sure didn't put them in a place where their powers could be affecting other people's minds and say that's just dandy because they can't help it.

Alright dearie. You too. Parenting is hard work, isn't it? We all have to make our own choices.

No one is attacking you. You don’t need to jump on the defensive right away. It gets peoples backs up and things escalate. Take a deep breath, go for a walk or something.

And then let me know if he can control who he alters it for or not, and if not we’ll simply make people aware that it is happening. People don’t like having their kids heads messed with however well meaning or unintentional.

It would be one thing if she was attacking me, but she's asking something of my child that grown adults have problems with.

He can't, and it's not their minds he's messing with. It's hard to explain what he's doing, when I only know he's doing it because he did it for me when I got reverted to four years old. It's kind of like selective hearing.

From an outside perspective, I don't think she was initially. She was asking for clarification. We can't seek to understand what we aren't even aware of.

A perception filter, then. People still need to be made aware that there is a perception filter in place, intended or not. I can put up a notice without naming names, or leave it to you to address. Whatever you think best.

So uh, not sure if it helps after all of that, but I can do a charm that muffles sound in a small area. If I cast it in a corner of the room the people there can hear each other but not the sound outside the bubble and opposite for the rest of the room. Could contain any kids who want to play while the adults attend the meeting without them having to hear anything or be out of sight of their guardians.

That sounds ideal, especially as they’ll be in the same room. Let’s give it a go, if no one wants to use it then at least we provided the option.

Are you able to protect me, (and the people who get up to speak) in some way? I don’t mean you personally, I mean with some sort of magic… shield or… I don’t know. I’m just suddenly very aware that I’m planning on standing up with some possibly very angry people who are capable to ripping to me literal shreds in seconds if they fly into a rage.

I have people willing to act as security and step in, but perhaps a bit of defense is better than the offense.

Yeah, absolutely. Protective magic is something I've spent a lot of time on.

I can cast a protective charm that will last pretty much as long as I want it to on a specific place, or piece of clothing-basically anything inanimate. Or I can cast them on individual people, but these only last a little while.

They can also be invisible or something you can see. The basic ones can't be seen and if someone tried to get through them or hurt someone they were cast on they act sort of like a shield. The only downside to these is that I would have to designate who would be excluded-so if someone you were worried about at first wanted to take the stage after you, I'd have to release the charm. If it were cast specifically on you or on some clothing, it would just protect you and a small area around you. Maybe if I cast it on a podium for those speaking to stand behind it could work for everyone? If have to test it.

But there's also one that creates a barrier that looks like fire. If you're inside the barrier, your enemies can't pass it, they're blocked and burned, but your allies can walk through unharmed. Who is able to get in or is kept out is personalized based on who is inside the barrier at any given time, not by me when I cast the spell.

This is fascinating, thank you for being so informative.

I think casting it on a podium would be best. Things have calmed down a lot now, but I'm still wary, and would rather anyone wanting to speak had that extra security while they were talking.

The barrier that looks like fire - would you be able to see past it, is it just low or would it cover the full person?
