Good morning.

Our next town hall meeting will be on Saturday, March 26th, 3pm at [location].

Attendance is not mandatory in any way, but everyone is very welcome. We will not be doing any lengthy introductions this time, but if anyone has not attended before and would like to introduce themselves to the community, you are encouraged to do so.

If anyone would like a copy of last month's minutes, you can let myself or Miss Citizen Becket Liberty know and we can arrange that.

I have noted already that we will be hearing from Applejack regarding agricultural needs, and Dr Cuddy will be speaking on behalf of the medical staff. If anyone else has any points for discussion they would like raised, you can let myself or Katherine know in advance and it will be added to the order of business to ensure we cover it. There will be time set aside for open discussion, so don't worry if you don't get your point 'in' on time.

Maryanne, are you able to provide snacks again?

Maria, are you able to set up the holographic interpreter again?

- Alexander Hamilton.

She was the sort of person that thought it was okay to talk about my child, and ask to be put on the agenda for it. Do you really think, if she gets up on that stage, that she's going to do as you said?

She wants a rule about threatening and intimidation? I want one that says no one can get on the stage and speak about about anyone under the age of 18 without written consent from their parent or guardian. The only exception would be if the child, themselves, wishes to get up and speak about themselves.

Then be mad at me for agreeing without clarification first. Lesson well and truly learned, but you know I also can’t stop anyone from getting up and saying anything they wish. Someone could tell me they want to talk about one thing and then go rogue once they are up.

It wasn’t Hannah who asked for that rule. It was yet another resident who was frightened by your words, and asked me to mention it so she could attend without fear.

18 is too high. Why 18? If Mr Black ever reverts to 14 again, no one will ever be able to mention him at all, since he is here without parents. I’m sorry, but I am not about to start putting lots of restrictions on what people can and can’t discuss, where does it end? I’ve already spoken to her. If she choses to ignore me, why wouldn’t she ignore a written rule?

Perhaps you can speak with Neville. He could muffle her words if it goes wrong.

I can't punish you for not being as jaded as I am. But you're right, anyone could go rogue... I shouldn't use that as a weapon if she gets up and talks about my kid anyway.

Well, she asked if there was a rule, and "if not there should be". I won't ask you who I scared because they obviously don't want me to know. But shit.

There has to be something that can be done, because it's not right for minors to be discussed like they're simply objects in the room. And sometimes rules are respected more than people.

That's an idea. Neville or one of the other magic folk.

Oh, so she did. I admit, I had quite forgotten and overlooked that, things had gotten so out of hand. No, it was someone else that prompted the rule post.

It is a difficult business. I wouldn't consider anyone over 10 to be a minor, I was employed and signing legal documents for merchants at the same age, I was managing the company by 14, and could hardly expect not to be spoken about or criticised publicly at that point. I also wouldn't have felt like an object, I was perfectly capable of responding in kind. This is why I say that 18 is too high. Katarin was only 16, was she not, before she went home?

Great, I'm already talking to Neville about some other magical assistance, so I will see if it's possible.

Fuck. I think I should ask for a spot on the agenda.

Times have changed my friend, by a lot. There's actually a federal law on the books that say children under then age of 16 can not be exploited for labor. They can't vote till 18, they also can't enlist in until 18, in most states you can't drink alcohol until you're 21. In most states you can't enter into a legally binding contract until you're 18, and in Alabama 19. Same goes for smoking ages. But all that said, all but three of my children are under 10, and I have twelve.

Thank you, Alexander. I can't tell you what that means to me.

Can if you like. This one seems massively popular for some reason, but the 'any other business' section is for anyone to say anything. Well, within reason. I'd rather it was vaguely relevant to the community at least.

Hang on, why can you enlist and vote before you can have a beer? That's fucked up.

You're very welcome.

Well, it's only the second one, the first one was more of a 'getting to know you' thing. But I'll add something else to my apology to make it relevant.

I hate to break it to you, my friend, but you were probably were the last good politician. The rest of them have always seemed to want things in an angle that would only benefit them. Prohibition got added to the constitution in 1917s and lasted till 1933, because American's gave the middle finger to the bible beating politicians that passed it, and drank anyway. It got revoked, in 1933 but a legal age had been put on. But also, most kids finish their schooling around 18 and they don't want to encourage kids to drop out of school and join. And also the voting... most politicians are now bad bad men.

Yeah, people have sure loosened up since then. It's no bad thing.

Oh. Well, shit. No wonder the Ricans left.

I'd have to say you've done pretty well, Mister Hamilton. Especially dealing with my crazy ass.

I don't know when they do that, but I certainly wouldn't blame them. I'd settle for a deserted island. But I don't think Liberty's universe and mine are the same.

Considering I took two weeks out for the malaria, it’s not too shabby.

Oh, well. We got a space station instead. Lucky us.

That said, how are you feeling? I could send my daughter over with a care package.

I guess. I'd much rather have solid ground under foot. Or real sunlight.

I'm doing okay, I'm tiring easier than I usually do, but apparently that's because I need more iron now.

Oh, getting fussy now, are we?

It just so happens, sir, that I have pot roast with carrots, and potatoes, in au jus gravy, left overs from last night. And beef is great for building up iron.

Space makes me twitchy, it's hard to ignore that we're in a giant tin can sometimes.

Oh, well then I will gladly accept. Thank you, you're too kind.

I live in constant denial, which is better than just constantly screaming I suppose?

I'll heat it up, and send it straight away. Mack knows how to keep it warm on the trip.

You and me both. I hate it when that little voice of logic creeps in is like 'oh look, it's that thing you were trying to ignore'. I often have to find the good booze and drown it out again.

Well, if I'm going to continue to give you a hard time, I have to make sure you're fighting fit don't I?

I kind of don't either, if I'm drinking something that is made for a mutant, or altered human, or.. an elf, it doesn't take much.

I imagine a small, delicate creature drinking out of an acorn cup. I don’t think hard liquor.

Well, it wasn't what I would call hard liquor, it was wine. But a goblet and a half and I was... memories are sketchy. I think I told a couple people off, but they could have been trees. Also the ones I met were over six foot tall.

I think you would be okay, like it wouldn't make you sick, but you'd also have to be very aware of yourself, and how it's making you feel. But, sadly, I am probably the only one in possession of the few remaining bottles.

You also want to avoid the Blue stuff, the elves didn't make it, it came from some alien world, but Sarah and the bearded Miguel make it in the lab. And I'd say that's definitely hard liquor. Two cups into that and all inhibitions, if I had any, are out the window.

Oh, no. I can't handle regular wine without becoming... ridiculous. Just ask Darcy! Not that I remember him being much better. Maybe ask O'Hara, he tolerated us well.

This is you with inhibitions? Lord.

Oh, yeah the tacos! What I wouldn't have done to be a fly on that wall. I have seen Mister Darcy intoxicated before, though. Bushes are very mean to him when he is. Did you find any shrubbery that was being wildly inappropriate and dragging you in closer?

Am I really that bad? I'm just a modern woman that knows what she likes.
