Who: Everyone!
When: Late Monday night, after curfew
Where: All over the mansion
What: Weapon X attack!
Notes: This is a bit long but please read all of it so everyone is on the same page. This thread will run like the field trip thread and you can also make separate threads if you want to. The attack will end with Weapon X eventually retreating, there will be another post for that later. Have fun :D

The soldiers had their orders. And while some thought the sheer number of the attack force to be rather ridiculous for a school, none would ever question their orders. Doing so never ended well. The Weapon X operatives had arrived on the mansion grounds mere minutes earlier, debriefed well before bypassing the security systems and the gates. They had already separated into their groups, most of them not expecting to see any action. It should have been a quick in and out job.

Vanessa Carylsle, pale-skinned and blonde-haired, led a small group of the top soldiers, taking them around to one of the small back doors that led in near the kitchen. She wrapped her arms tightly around her torso as one of the men picked the lock. They'd already hacked in, taken down all the security systems. They knew the mansion inside and out, every nook and cranny, every security measure. The door pushed open silently, and the group met the darkness of a school well after curfew, silent and empty. She knew students would be out after curfew, crammed in the Rec Room trying to avoid detection, visiting one another's rooms, getting ready to sneak out. She just hoped luck stayed with them. The former student led them past the kitchen, through the cafeteria (hearing a phantom crowd, remembering the laughter, the food fights, the arguments, the deep conversations, the scrambling to student for exams - she had to choke back a sigh), up the stairs, skipping the one that always creaked. As she headed the team, her mind swam with thoughts. They had brought so many soldiers! At least two per student and staff member. Even the dark-haired killing machine, the girl cloned from Logan, the most lethal weapon they had. Why would they bring her to a school full of children? Why so many soldiers? She prayed no one would see them, that they would grab Professor Xavier, find Cerebro, and make it out of there before anyone was the wiser. If not... She shuddered to think of the consequences.

The soldiers had their orders. Some found them strange, one or two might have considered them disturbing. But more of them looked forward to the chance to use their skills, stretch their legs, so to speak. They hoped something would go wrong, so they could have some fun. Some were armed with guns, some with tranquilizers, many of them had brought their own supplies, too: tasers, army knives, a night stick or two. They were prepared, the ones not charged with the stealth of a kidnapping waiting outside with baited breath, surrounding the mansion. They were to subdue the students and the staff that got in their way, to tranquilize anyone who interrupted - but they were to use lethal force on any threats. And a school full of mutants? The threats just ran rampant.

They were up the stairs. Vanessa led them past the student dormitories, to the staff suites. As they rounded on the hallway, she almost let out a sigh of relief. So far, so good. They had brought all that backup for nothing. They were so close, and with the security out of commission, who would get in their way? Logan might track them down later, but they would be long gone. She nodded down the hall, indicating a door on the other end of the hall. She should have brought them up the elevator, but feared it would alert someone to hear the mechanics of the elevator whirring. Slow but steady. They started down the hall, so close to their objective.

But so, so far. They made it only several steps down the hall when one of the doors opened. A lean redheaded man, clad only in green boxers, stepped out into the hall. Sean Cassidy craved a cup of coffee. And the craving had come at just the right time. The alert Irishman tensed the moment he walked into the hall, saw the shapes, let his eyes adjust to the darkness and even recognized one of the intruders. Oh hell. CHARLES. SAINTS ALIVE, CHARLES, GET UP. WE'RE UNDER ATTACK. He focused his thoughts on his old friend, well used to doing so after so many years. And he wasn't about to just leave it at a mental warning for the professor. His mouth opened at the same time, and a wordless scream left his lips - it served the dual purpose of alerting every staff member of the danger and pushed back the intruders with its psionic force. He turned, ran to Xavier's room.

Charles was startled awake by Sean's panicked thoughts. He instantly reached out telepathically. He saw for a moment what Sean saw, then tried to reach out to see into the minds of the people Banshee saw. He could see nothing. Xavier instantly sat up, pulling himself into his wheelchair. Not good. He couldn't sense any of the people he knew were in the hall. His eyebrows furrowed, knowing Sean would be with him in a moment. Everyone, wake immediately. We are under attack, soldiers in the staff hallway. There may be others. They are telepathically shielded. Protect the students and yourselves and evacuate them immediately. We do not know the extent of this attack yet, so be careful. He projected as calmly as he could - but he feared for the safety of all his students and all his staff. He never imagined something like this would happen.

Sean burst into the room. "Ye're first, Charles," he said, grabbing the wheelchair's handles. He sped into the hall. Xavier caught a glimpse of the attackers, tried to reach out to them mentally once more - but they were thoroughly shielded, every one of them. He frowned. He had to start the students' evacuations, he couldn't dwell on his inability to break past the impressive mental shields. Students, this is Xavier. I ask each and every one of you to follow the directions of the staff members who are about to find you without question and evacuate to the lower levels of the mansion as calmly and quickly as possible. Do not rush, do not get rambunctious and loud. Do as they ask, now. The now came out more forcefully than he meant.

The wheelchair sped into the elevator. Sean opened his mouth for one last scream, almost forcing the soldiers down the stairs. He slammed his hand into correct level number, and the doors closed. Xavier leaned his forehead into his hand, trying to keep track of the staff and students.

The soldier behind Vanessa frowned. He lifted his hand to his headset, clicking it on. "We've been compromised. Move in. Cut the power now." He wanted Xavier - and cutting the power gave them the powerful telepath caught in a solid metal cage. "Now!" he reiterated needlessly, just as their hacker forced his way into the right part of the system, cutting the power.

The power went out; the soldiers went in.

They had their orders.

Sofia Mantega had been dancing with her iPod in the hallways. After her night spent with Julian, her sleep schedule hadn't exactly been normal. She couldn't sleep from how excited she had been and so to help calm her buzzing brain, she was dancing to music in hopes of wearing herself out. She didn't want to wake Paige up, so she had wandered over to the main campus. She was about to kick her leg up for dramatic fun to the beat of Lady Gaga when Xavier's telepathic intrusion startled her through the loud music.

She slipped and fell, picking herself up off the ground as Xavier's message continued. She pocketed her earphones and glanced around. Since most of the students were obviously back in the dorms respecting curfew, something Sofia tended to break only when she was already in trouble like now, she found herself relatively alone. No, wait. There were footsteps, low but quick. Were people already evacuating? Who else was there? It was then she noticed how a lot of the usual dim lighting was out. And that there were flashlights coming down the corridor. Sofia put a hand to her eyes as they approached, squinting in their direction. Who were these people? Was the faculty onto her breaking curfew?

She threw up a disarming smile. "...hello! I'm..." But the instant she spoke it was like she had thrown a rock into an otherwise calm pond. The ripple effect was the drawing of a weapon by the front two soldiers, and Sofia found herself stung by tranquilizer darts in the shoulder. She momentarily lost her balance, then lost it completely as she drifted off into sleep. When she fell, she bumped her iPod and it began playing to no one in particular faintly from the fallen earbuds on the floor.

((Beginning a couple of minutes before the attack.))

Remy was quite unaware that anything was amiss outside or inside the mansion. He was, however, becoming increasingly aware of everything amiss in his social life, and he wanted to fix that. No matter what he said to Logan, no matter what he might try to claim to anyone, Remy was a social creature who didn't like to see his social circle shrink. And he honestly did miss some of the people he'd pushed away - like his roommate. Of course, he hadn't taken all of the advice to heart - like cutting back on his drinking. He drank for a lot of reasons, and they kept popping up. So it was with whiskey on his breath and a beer in his hand that Remy found himself sneaking through the halls back to his room.

And saw someone else doing the same. Merde. Jono! What timing! Remy stumbled up the rest of the stairs, cringing as he hit the wall to steady himself, the bang echoing in his head. "Jono!" he called in a harsh whisper. He stumbled forward. "Jono!"

Remy had been back at the mansion for a few days now, but Jono had been doing his best to avoid his roommate and he'd been rather successful thus far. He'd spent the past few nights in Angelo's dorm, finding it much more comfortable than his own now that Remy was around again. He was still extremely pissed off at the Cajun and he knew that if he encountered him things would escalate into a fight rather quickly. Unfortunately his luck was about run out, in more ways than one. He was just rounding the corner from Angelo's room to walk to his own when he heard his name being whispered (rather loudly) in a familiar accent. He didn't even have to turn around to know it was Remy, but he did so anyway, albeit reluctantly. Christ, was that a beer in his hand? In the middle of the school? Great.

He couldn't say anything to Remy thanks to the idiot's mental shield, and he was without the whiteboard or anything to scribble a note on. So he simply paused in the hallway, shooting Remy a death glare that very clearly said "What the fuck do you want?"

The power went out. Rogue was sitting on her laptop with her headphones on. It was late, but it wasn't that late. She'd been chatting with someone on AIM when the Professor's voice came bursting into her head. She pulled the headphones off in surprise and looked around the room, almost as if expecting to see Xavier standing behind her. But no one was there. A brief moment later-- just long enough for her heart to start thundering -- and the power went out. The light from her laptop screen was the only thing illuminating her bedroom now.

Clad in her pajamas (thankfully long sleeves and long pants, but a painfully low cut top) and her standard gloves and socks, Rogue headed out into the hall to see what she could do to help. So far, it didn't look like people were panicking.

Thankfully it was hours before Callisto's bedtime when she received the distress signal. Barreling out of her room, she met a barrage of soldiers recoiling from Banshee's attack and were now taking the stairs in twos. Joy of joys. A trio came up on her quickly and turned their weapons towards her. Cal rolled her eyes, rolling out of the way. She rushed the small group of shoulders, a heavy combat boot kicking against one's chest, causing them to tumble back down the stairs. She grabbed the other two soldiers by the hair and cracked their skulls together. Lifting both into the air, Alexandra threw them down the stairs at the other advancing operatives.

Alex glanced over her shoulder, and seeing the coast was clear, took off down the hall to make her way for the girl's dormitory. She had a feeling she'd be collecting bodies all night, and she had to find the kids and get them downstairs ASAP. Thankfully due to her enhanced speed, she was able to make it there relatively quickly before the soldiers were able to fully infiltrate the area of the girl's dormitory. There was some hope. She heard the growing sounds of soldiers though, and started pounding on the doors of the girl's rooms as she passed by, "Rise n' shine sleeping beauties!"

Cal noticed Rogue standing there in the middle of the hallway in her pajamas. What the hell was she doing just standing there? She nearly scared the crap out of her! "Jesus Rogue! This way!" She pointed to her dorm. "Is your roommate in? Get her out of there now! You're coming with me. Move it!" The footsteps of soldiers grew from the other end of the hallway.

Regan, Pietro
[info]lady_regan
2010-04-12 04:01 pm UTC (link)
As promised, Regan had Pietro over Monday night. She hadn't quite gotten over her intimacy issues since her memory returned, but she was trying. The nauseated feeling crept up first, and then the reason loomed in the back of her mind like the bluenique grim reaper... slowly raising the scythe to strike within the final throws.

"F-Fuck!!" Regan's voice choked out and she let out a hissed stutter through gritted teeth. There were a lot of S's in a certain someone's name that she managed to bite back. Her eyes flew open as she clawed down Pietro's shoulders and back. PIETRO. PIETRO. Heaven help her! FOCUS ON PIETRO. She tried her best to ignore it, pushing through it and becoming more violent with her boyfriend. Now she just felt sick, and her lips curled into a nauseated snarl. Ugh, it was happening again. Her head hit the pillow in defeat, eyes going dull. She arched against him weakly, but clearly her mood had been soured. "Stop, stop..." Regan groaned while her fists pushed against his chest, fighting him off weakly.

Her eyes remained open and unblinking, afraid of what she might find if she closed them. Carlysle had single-handedly and successfully ruined sex for her, and why it was taking her almost three weeks to release the trauma was beyond her comprehension. Regan pushed her fingers through her hair, staring up at the ceiling. Clearly, she didn't have enough drink in her yet, and this was why the problem persisted. Though this may have seemed like the pinnacle now, Regan's just deserts were (literally) around the corner.

She let out a sigh, arm draping loose over the edge of the bed and reaching for her clothes. "I'm going to get something to drink." Regan murmured. She got dressed, adjusting herself and zipping her jeans back up. Her long V-neck T-shirt looking a lot more rumpled than it did when she first arrived. Regan moved her fingers through her blonde locks and pushed them over to one side. She bent at the middle, picking up her boots and wedging them on without bothering with the laces. "Want anything? Back in a sec." But before she left... "Mmn..." Regan cupped the side of Pietro's face and kissed him, poor boy, this wasn't the first time she'd put him through this routine. Trust, it was hell for her too.

Once in the hallway Regan rubbed her eyes on the back of her fist, this was a long night and clearly she needed to get her booze on. Sometimes she wished she was susceptible to her own illusions, because she'd love to manipulate her memories right now. But something wasn't sitting so well with her... then she heard the heavy steps marching in unison from down the hallway. Lights flashing down the corridor from dozens of gun barrels, the clank of packs and guns. The noise was growing and getting closer. What the-? She couldn't pinpoint the sound, but part of it sounded like it was coming up the stairs, the other half from down the hallway. She heard the radio static and crackle from the walkie-talkies. Regan reached out telepathically, but found no one. Hm, was she dreaming, sleep-walking, just seeing things? Good job Wyngarde. She was letting this school get to her, and now she was clearly going insane. Especially when the voice in her head spoke.

Oh, peachy... so she wasn't seeing things. At least there was relief in that. Regan backtracked, biting her lower lip to remain silent. She couldn't seem to move fast enough, the sound of soldiers was growing, deafening. She tore down the hallway, shouldering her way into her dorm. "Get dressed. Get dressed." No doubt Pietro heard Xavier's announcement too. Her face was as pale as paper. The dimly lit lamp on her night table fizzled out as the power was cut.

Pietro hissed in pain as Regan suddenly swore and clawed his shoulder with her nails. "Babe, what the-" before he could even finish his question she was telling him to stop and pushing him away. Ugh, not again! Regan hadn't been herself lately and she hadn't exactly explained what was going on to poor oblivious Pietro. And he was starting to get frustrated in more ways then one. He groaned, and not in a good way, when Regan sat up and started to get dressed.

"What? No. Babe, please?" he responded in between her kiss. And then she was leaving the room. God dammit. Pietro reached over and grabbed his pants, pulling them on with more force than was necessary. Deciding not to bother with his shirt (which had been tossed across the room earlier), he flopped back against the pillows in aggravation and ran his hands through his short silver hair.

He was still lying there with an arm draped over his eyes when the Professor's announcement startled him, causing him to jump. Evacuate? He sat up in confusion just as a pale-faced Regan crept back into the room. "Regan, what happened? Are you okay?" he asked quickly. And then the power was cut, plunging the room into darkness. Pietro stood up cautiously and took a step towards Regan, grabbing her arm. The sounds of scuffling outside the room were audible now and then suddenly the door came flying open, both of them momentarily blinded by the bright flash light being shined in their faces. "That's the girl with illusions, the other's got super-speed hurry!" one of the soldiers called over his shoulder. Unfortunately for Pietro and Regan, Vanessa had been especially thorough in her reports about her two antagonizers.

Wonder of wonders, Kevin was actually asleep for once. He tended more toward insomnia than healthy sleeping habits, but tonight he was fairly soundly asleep, for him -- until, that is, the voice in his head jolted him awake. In his confused state, Xavier sounded so close, and he shrank instinctively away from where the voice sounded like it was coming from, until he realized that it was coming from inside inside his head. And that Now sounded serious.

He slipped out of bed, glancing over at his roommate in the other bed as he switched on his bedside lamp. "Kurt?" he said, maybe louder than he should have if there was something bad going on. "Hey. Did you just hear--" And then Kevin heard something for real, not just in his head, out in the hallway: heavy footsteps, then loud voices and some ominous pops that... oh, Jesus Christ, could that really be gunshots? He froze up, really scared now, his eyes darting to the closed door.

Kurt had also been asleep when the Professor's voice echoed in his mind. Waking up groggily, he wasn't sure at first if he had just dreamed the announcement about evacuating or not. When he heard Kevin very clearly say his name however, he sat up and rubbed his eyes before glancing over to his roommate. "Was? What is going on..." Kurt trailed off at the sound of the gunshots outside the door.

"Mein Gott!" he said, throwing the covers off of himself but then making no further movement as both boys watched the door anxiously. The footsteps were getting louder as the intruders approached, then suddenly stopped outside the door. Fear seized Kurt and he held his breath as muffled voices came from the other side of the door. The roommates watched as the knob turned and the bright light from a flashlight poured into the dark dorm.

Luckily Kurt's night vision adjusted quickly and he could see the armed solider creeping towards them while another raised a gun behind him, firing it with a pop. With a sharp gasp, Kurt teleported in a heartbeat and reappeared beside Kevin as a tranquilizer dart sailed through the purplish smoke and stuck into his pillow where he'd been sitting just a second ago.

Wanda was asleep. The poor girl was suffering from a bit of a head cold, and went to bed early. By the time Professor Xavier's voice came into her head, she'd been in a deep, deep, cold medicine-induced sleep. She hadn't really realized that it wasn't a part of a dream yet, as she slowly stirred to consciousness. Her head lifted from the pillow and she gave a little whimper as she swallowed--her throat was the worst--as she looked at the clock on her bedside table. It flickered, and the numbers went out with the rest of the power around the mansion. Confusion settled over her bemuddled mind, and she sat up in bed, listening hard.

Then a man came crashing through her window. He had a gun out, and Wanda gave a little shriek. His gun burnt red-hot, and he dropped it. Before Wanda could take a moment to realize that it was her powers that made the gun's temperature rise, she flung herself from bed and burst out of the room, rushing into the hall. At least, she thought she was moving quickly... the poor girl was still drowsy and hopped up on cough medicines. The whole world swam around her, making her feel dizzy and like she was going to fall.

Shit. There were more of them in the hall.

Vanessa panicked when the order to attack went out. No, no, no, no. This wasn't how everything was supposed to turn out! In and out, no one hurt! Dammit! At least between the power out and the instant hubbub of evacuation thanks to the Professor's immediate warnings, the blonde had a chance to slip away unnoticed. Her skin bled back to its true color, her hair lightening to its proper white. She couldn't do this! She couldn't let her friends or her peers or even her enemies get hurt. She had to take a stand.

The shapeshifter tore down the halls, making her way to the student dormitories. The soldiers let her run past unhindered, though she passed one or two confused to see her blue. She heard a shriek just as she turned into the hall. Wanda! Her eyes widened. If Wanda was in trouble, she was a danger to herself and those around her. Vanessa had precious few actual friends. Steel overtook the look in her eyes. She would not stand by and see her friend hurt. Wanda stumbled into the hall just as Vanessa approached the door. She flung her arms around Wanda, leaning her head in to whisper.

"Wanda! Easy, easy. I'm going to get you out of here, okay? Just follow along with what I do." Her voice came out fast, panicked, struggling to keep it low. She looked back up, pulling Wanda in closer. "Get back, you idiot!" she snapped at an encroaching soldier. "You don't understand her powers. She'll lash out the second she's threatened. She trusts me. Let me use that." The soldier backed away uneasily as Vanessa glared at him.

Laynia wasted no time jumping into super-hero mode when she heard Xavier's signal. It seemed oddly reminiscent of Russia, being awoken at some ungodly hour in the middle of the night for a drill. Her jet lag was just starting to break, too! Laynia tore out of her room in her pajamas. Tch! Two seconds below her usual time! The short black nightie was highly inappropriate to be parading around the halls in, but that was the furthest thing from her mind right now. Laynia quickly realized once she was out in the hall that she didn't know where to go. She also didn't know if this was common practice or if they were seriously in peril. She thought back to Xavier's mental interjection (which now she realized she hadn't dreamed). They were under attack. Evacuate to the lower levels.

Laynia now had her orders.

Unfortunately, it would not be so simple. Soldiers tore down the hallway, cutting Laynia off in mid-flight. They turned their guns toward her. Petrovna was reeling in disgust. Soldiers - Of the American variety! She could tell by the ugly cut of their uniform. So these pigs wanted to play? They fired their darts, and a huge portal to the darkforce yawned open in the middle of the hallway, swallowing up their puny attempt at subduing her. She pursed her lips as they swapped out for M16 rifles.

Laynia raised a hand above her head, a swirl of dark energy whirled above her forming into a large ball. She swung back and threw it into the group of soldiers, it barreled them over, knocking them down like bowling pins. They fired off rounds from their guns, and Laynia used the darkforce to create a shield to block her from any stray bullets. She didn't want do if she didn't have to, but did she have permission to kill?

No, no, she had to evacuate as per her orders. Laynia retreated back inside a darkforce portal that had opened behind her. Before the soldiers could rebound, she was already gone. Was this customary at Xaivers? The thought of a terrorist attack didn't phase her in the slightest, in fact she was braced for it.

Darkstar teleported down to the foyer, and thank Lenin the power was out. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust, but thankfully it was dark - Laynia was good with the dark. She took a moment to shake her head clear and gain her bearings. Right then, how to get to the lower levels?

The nightmare wasn't going away- tonight was the worst it had been yet. It was too loud for her, and she had been startled from sleep, lucky that her gasp of surprise had not woken her roommate. Feeling about, she found no reason for alarm and realized it was the same dreaded nightmare that had been stalking her dreams. She needed to talk with someone, even if it was just a nightmare- she was becoming afraid to sleep.

Betsy's computer had completely given out earlier while she was talking with her twin, and until Angelo could take a look Betsy was out of luck as to how to fix it. So, instead of getting online and seeking out someone still up, she felt for her cane, any book within arm's reach, and headed for the Rec Room.

Betsy reached the Rec Room and settled down on one of the couches, relaxing as she flipped open her books and let her fingers glide across the pages, feeling the words. It was calming, and her nervous energy was dwindling... until she heard something.

Betsy heard it before she felt it- with their shields even a telepath like Betsy would miss them until they were closer, but as a blind girl she could hear things lost on most other people. At first, she thought it was just her paranoia after her dream- but then she felt them. Lots of them. And knew it wasn't a dream.

Silently standing and grabbing her cane, Betsy swallowed back her fear as Xavier's message blast in her mind. Lower levels? Like she knew where that was! Sam had mentioned it to her though, right? He said... elevators. There were elevators.

And then the sound of power giving out within every electronic in the room killed that plan. The sound was more frightening to Betsy than if she had actually seen the power go out- it meant the only source of escape she knew was gone. Shaking a tad, and involuntarily remembering the attack when she lost Tom and her sight, Betsy had to make a choice, and quickly- numerous auras would be there soon and she had little to no idea where to go or what to do.

Not sure who was in the Rec Room, she thought out so as not to be heard, Hey, anyone there still? If you are, just think back to me, it's Betsy. We need a plan. If her brother could handle bad things all the time so could she! Right?

Warren Worthington III stirred from the telepathic intrusion. Initially, he thought it was all part of his dream. But when he woke up and heard his roommate stirring too, followed by confusion in the hallway, Angel knew that wasn't the case. He stretched his arms and then his wings, not bothering with a shirt or socks as he made his way into the hallway. Still waking up, he ran a hand through his long blonde hair before falling into teacher mode. Despite the fact he was still only 18, Warren was friends with and often acted like he was one of the faculty. When Xavier gave an order to them, it was like Warren had been given one too.

"This way, closest exit!" Warren instructed, starting to ferry the first few students that awoke to the stairwell. He stayed in the middle of the hallway, arms and wings waving to direct traffic as best he could with limited lighting. Warren owned many things, but unfortunately he was pretty sure a flashlight wasn't one of them. After a minute, Mr. Forge arrived and more loudly got the rest of the straddlers going. At least, so they thought. Warren wanted to wait with Forge to take up the rear, but found himself hurried along as if he was a student here ... oh, wait. Right. Warren reluctantly nodded, remembering his place on the totem pole. The halls were too cramped to fly, let alone with all the bodies, so he tucked them in behind himself and continued to the stairwell. Was this an attack? Had it finally happened? Did humans learn where they lived?

In the main building, the elevators weren't working. Their only bet to the emergency levels were the stairwells, which were quickly backing up with students and faculty. It was also the main spot where the enemy soldiers appeared to be. Soldiers. Warren found their presence more extraordinary than the students with obvious mutations running about around him. Mr. Forge didn't have any offensive capabilities and needed to protect the students. Worthington hung back, not immediately fleeing with Forge and the others. The silhouettes of the men down the hall appeared to have weapons. Lives could be at danger.

That didn't set well with this Angel.

Cessily had much cause for insomnia. She was in a strange place in a strange bed surrounded by dozens of people she barely new. Admittedly she was having difficulty adjusting to the time difference and when she was finally able to get to sleep an unfamiliar noise would rouse her from her slumber. Eventually she resigned herself to the fact that very little sleeping was actually going to be happening and just gave up. Clicking on her bedside lamp, Cess reached for the nearest graphic novel (Hellboy) and hunkered down for a long sleepless night.

She was about halfway through her book when she heard a very direct voice -- inside her head?! -- that caused her to stop reading. What was that? Was she so tired that she was hallucinating? No...she was quite certain that she had heard that voice.

"Hello?" She called out, uncertainty and fear apparent in her tone. Only moments later she heard hurried footfalls and shouts emanating through the halls. Something wasn't right. At all. Panic came in waves, washing over Cessily, until she had enough motivation to go completely liquid. She slithered out of her clothes, dripping out onto the floor, an amorphous puddle. Like that, she "paced" back and forth before slipping beneath the door and into the pandemonium that was ensuing in the hallway.

What she "saw" freaked her right out. Men, military operatives by the looks of it, stomped through the halls, while students tried to evade their attackers. Cess zigged and zagged trying to avoid being stepped on, half tempted to just return to her room and hide. She thought she remembered something about lower levels but hadn't clue one about how to access them.

One strangled cry pulled her from her panicked thoughts. They were hurting them! Without much concern for herself Cess rose from puddle shape into a terrible, mercury monster. She supposed if she was a normal little girls she’d be scared for her life, but not in this form. She wasn’t normal and in that moment she embraced all of her inhuman qualities. Her stature grew and with it her flame red hair faded to silver as it bristled outward into sharp spikes, ready to cut of a wave of soldiers.

Theresa Cassidy was having a bad night. Her homework was piling up, she was out of alcohol, her roommate was still missing and she was still mortified at having confronted Frost so blatantly with Julian. All she wanted to do was sleep. Unfortunately, the telepathic evacuation message ruined that plan. She was out of bed in an instant and was almost out the door when the room went dark.

She stepped out into the hallway cautiously, pressing her back against the wall. She could make out a few shadowy figures but couldn't tell whether they were students, teachers, or some other unknown group. The two that were closest to her were male, and she was fairly certain they had their backs to her. Who were they? She almost called out to them before realizing that they might be from outside the school, and therefore not the type of people she wanted alerted to her presence. Professor Xavier wouldn't have sent out such an anxious message if the school wasn't under attack, would he? He'd sounded strained and harried, and that was unlike him, as far as Terry knew.

One of the figures turned and Terry stared in surprise, clearly able to make out the shape of a big gun in the man's hand. He was scanning her section of the hallway and with her pale skin there was no hiding in the dark. He raised his gun silently just as she let out a scream that shattered the gun in his hand and shredded the man's hands and forearms. The soldier yelled and she turned to let another scream at the second soldier, the psionic force batting the man against the wall. She didn't stay to see the effect that had; she turned tail and ran like hell down the hallway towards the stairs. So much for not alerting them to her presence.

John had always been a pretty light sleeper, much to his frustration; sleeping in on the weekends was more of a desperate wish than a reality most of the time. As a result, Xavier's voice in his head was even louder and more startling than to those students fortunate enough to be heavy sleepers.

It was the noise itself rather than the actual words that woke him, yanking him abruptly into consciousness. John glanced around, more than a little panicked by the mental intrusion, and after a few moments of processing he finally heard the commotion somewhere down the hall, and son of a bitch, this was bad.

"Jay! Get up!" he barked out sharply, temporarily forgetting he was fundamentally opposed to actually calling Jay by his real name. He wasn't worried about that right now as he quickly jammed his feet into a pair of sneakers and readied his lighter.

Vanessa & Julian!
[info]raise_hell
2010-04-13 04:58 am UTC (link)
When Julian heard the distress call, he was already battling off soldiers in the hallway of the boy's dormitory. He had been on the way back from the bathroom when the ambush happened. According to the Weapon X operatives, Julian only was capable of flight, so his telekinetic shields had definitely caught them by surprised to the point where they were unloading bullets. He violently threw soldiers into the walls and out the windows when they pursued. His shields worked wonders to keep them at bay, and with a raged scream, he lifted the small army into the air and hurled them over the banister in blazing glow of green.

The baratt-atat-tat-tatted of bullets from the soldier's machine guns echoed in the pitch black mansion. These guys meant serious business, but Julian wasn't going anywhere quietly. He also wasn't leaving until he knew his friends were safe. More importantly, he didn't want to find Sofia, his girlfriend, dead at the hands of these guys!

He returned to his dormitory long enough to shove on a pair of jeans, socks and sneakers. He woke up his roommate, who was, no doubt, in a panic. Julian didn't have time to explain, and just reiterated what Xavier's said before tearing out of his dormitory and down the hallways. He had to find Sofia. He wasn't evacuating to the lower levels without her! He swung around the corner, coming to an abrupt halt.

He found Vanessa instead.

Julian couldn't believe it. "N-Ness?" Her name came out like a whisper at first. "...Vanessa!? VANESSA!" His smile growing wider by the second, holy shit, it was her, it was actually her! "You sure picked a fine time to come back!" He laughed, feeling relieved.

But he barely had the time to celebrate when the soldier's stormed up behind her fast. "Whoa! Look out!" He wasn’t going to lose her now, not again!! "Get away from her!" He pushed his hands out and tendrils of green energy shot forward, they connected against the chest's off the approaching Weapon X operatives and pushed them far, far down the hall. "Nessie, hurry!" He motioned for her to come to him. He'd keep her safe.

Dominic hadn't been in the school when he received the telepathic blast. It was the equivalent of a foghorn going off in his ear, leaving him with a wince and a loud curse in the open air. No, instead of spending any more time than necessary inside the school, Dominic had gone out for a smoke. It was safer than smoking in the garage - usually Wolverine or Summers could come across him if he were there messing with their vehicles. Still, he was slipping back inside the school through the empty garage when the call went out.

There were intruders in the school. He could have run away, continued with his pseudo-evacuation and gotten off the grounds entirely. Yet he was heading into the foyer and towards the sound of conflict from the interior. Dominic couldn't have said it was any real desire to be a hero or act out in any sort of way - but there were the sounds of a fight and the occasion younger student shrieking. It didn't take him long to find the cause.

"-the fuck?" Dominic froze in the hallway as a heavily armed squadron aimed their guns at him. It was very lucky for Dominic that Vanessa had never given more than a passing interest in either him or his powers because they didn't fire on sight.

When he heard the safety disengage on a soldier's gun, Dominic didn't wait around to find out that they were only tranquilizer darts or actual live ammunition. He flung out a hand at the ground in front of him. The floor rippled with the seismic vibrations generated from his body shoved outward. It started a little wave that exploded into a much larger one. Paintings rattled on their hangings before shattering to the floor below. It was like playing dominoes - a single flick and they all came tumbling down. The force of the final crescendo ripped the actual hardwood up from the floor and slammed the soldiers against the wall with enough force to knock most of them unconscious.

Property damage be damned.

She'd just changed into her pajamas, and was turning down her bed when she was distracted by the disembodied voice. And then the nightlight, the clock radio, everything went dark. A tremble of panic and excitement rushed through her as she turned to the door. Oh, no. Sofia was in the hall dancing. Paige had told her roommate she was going to bed, so Sofia went into the hall, and... what was going on?

Paige stepped over to the door, quickly, and poked her head out. There was a man in a rather strange outfit walking along the hall, carrying... was that a gun? He spotted her and raised it. Quick, husk into something bulletproof!! But it was too late. THe shot went off just as Paige was tearing at her outer skin. The dart hit her in the neck and the world went black. Paige's unconscious and half-husked body fell to the floor and went still.

Danielle dropped to the floor, shots firing through her door and splintering the wood. It rained down on the Indian girl, brown eyes shifting through the darkness till she found the soldier and after plucking his worst fear out for all to see, Dani pushed herself up slipped into her shoes. Thank god she hadn't changed out of her shorts and tank tonight and the dark haired girl padded from her room, eyes scanning the darkness.

Her tracking skills as well her ability to be almost soundless would be vital now and she quieted her breathing, sneaking down the hall with an arrow at ready in her bow strings and brown eyes on the look out for a potential victim or threat. Rahne, she hoped the wolf girl was okay...surly with her wolf abilities she would be safe? Either way, Dani would find her and protect her. Not only that, but she had to find Josh...no matter how old he got she still worried.

The was a footstep and suddenly a dark figure hovered above her. The mutant hesitated only seconds before she launched a glimmering arrow that sent him falling to the ground with a thud. "Hands up!" Oh damn, the feeling of cool metal against her skin sent a shiver down her back. The bow dropped from her hands.

Tabitha was running, tripping over couches and smacking into things as she flung timebombs like crazy over her shoulder. She was being pursued by men with guns. Angry men with guns! Holy crap why was this happening?! She was scare shitless, that was obvious, and I mean...come on! This was REAL! Not like those stupid training excercises in the danger room. Um, Hello! Not a drill! Omigawd, she could totally die! Ohgodohgodohgod!

She gave a little shriek as bullets hailed past and she ducked for cover behind a book shelf in a classroom. The men kicked in the door and followed her. Where was Bobby! Where was ANYBODY! Oh man, this was horrible! Tabitha tried to concentrate on summoning her time bombs as she shook behind the bookcase. But they kept fizzling out at her finger tips. Just like they always did when she was under pressure. Terrified, she didn't notice that the flickerings of small orange energy were having one effect...
They were drawing the attention of the soldiers.

They began making their way over...intent on their purpose.

Mystique, when the mental alert had gone out, had already casually headed down stairs. Xavier was late. She had noticed the signs of intrusion early, not relying on mental feedback as he did. Years of long practice at work as Raven Darkholme changed into her true natural skin Blue skinned and red haired. All the prettier when lightly dusted in flecks of blood, she reasoned.

Down below, she changed her appearance to look like a man on watch at the banister. Stabbing a knife viciously through the man's eye, she took stock of her options. Another soldier came around the corner, radio in hand, but he was silenced by a choke hold and a broken neck. He was so kind as to lend her his machine gun. And it even had armor piercing rounds. Convienient. As him, she followed a quick marching squad, gave all the proper miltary hand signals back, and followed them silently into the darkness. They had scanners now she saw. And small machines and interesting toys. Flame throwers, electric cuffs, grenades that did more than smoke and flash, she wagered. And what was this? Altered EMP pulse devices...the better to disrupt cameras, electronic devices, and telepathy at short range. And tranquilizer guns as well? My my, so they were loaded for bear. Or mutants it appeared. And they seemed quite informed on just what sort of mutants they were dealing with.
She'd need to question one later...these weren't any of Magneto's men.

She waited a heartbeat...and then she opened fire. They danced on invisible strings before slumping. She kicked open a door, shedding her disguise, she entered a classroom where students were huddled in fear. Someone had phased them down through the ceiling to try and evacuate.

"Come along children, I don't have all day. Powers up, eyes alert. We need to evacuate you all." She motioned, her voice ringing firm and utterly confident. After a moments hesitation they followed her, wincing and mumbling about the bodies she'd left in her wake. She met with a couple of other professors who were leading streams of students out through a secret passageway.

"Go along with them and stay together. I'll protect your exit." She turned around, machine gun in hand. And then Mystique went back into the fray. Leading small gaggles of students back each time.

She'd moved methodically, like a smoothly oiled doll. Body performing its dance while her head zipped through minute calculations and slightly intigued musings. These men were from an unknown organization. She'd tried questioning one at gunpoint, but he twitched and died. Investigations and a few stab probes revealed a synthetic device implanted at the backs of their scalp. Precautions by their employer no doubt. She'd pocketed a device on her way out.

As she worked her way through men and students alike, she became a tad bit careless as her boot tripped a wire mounted low across a door way. Too late she pulled back as a short range electro grenade went off, expanding in a bright sizzling flash across the space in front of her. Her shirt and hair was singed, her mind disoriented but her finger still on the trigger. She managed to come to as Beast roared his way into the room and began mauling.

But what she didn't realize was that the flash...had shorted out the metal plate shielding her mind....

Tyrone and Tandy had been staying up late, studying in his room. Not exactly perfect behavior, but with his roommate there they were under watchful gaze. But when the distress call sounded through every mutant's mind, Tyrone was on his feet and spilling his pencils all over the floor. His eyes were wide as his fists tightened. Coming to himself he looked down at Tandy in grim concern as he marched over to the closet and grabbed his cloak off of a hanger. He didn't want his girlfriend getting hurt...

So acting like the macho boyfriend, he tried to get her to stay behind as he looked over his shoulder. "L-Listen...I don't know w-w-what's goin' on, but it sounds b-bad." A loud thud and the sound of gun fire hailed from beyond the bedroom door. Tyrone's fist clenched as he pulled his Cloak around him. His skin was already becoming darker and translucent as energy began to ebb at the pit of his belly.

"I th-think maybe you sh-should stay h-here an'--"

Beast was grabbing children up into his massive furry arms and swinging around corners as he helped bundled them away into the safety of the secret passageways and tunnels. "Run children! Follow along behind each other and stay quiet! You'll be safe below, don't worry!" He gave a kiss onto the top of one little girl's head and then reared up to his full height as he took in the scene of chaos. Roaring in surprising and anger, he jerked forward. Looking down he found a nest of tranquilizers embedded in his forearm. "Go!" He gave a push and shut a wall panel behind them, turning to face his pursuers. He gave a loud roar, snatched a bundle of needles from his pocket, jabbed the injections in to fight off the wave of dizziness and sleepiness that suddenly sucked at him, and started going on pure adrenaline.

These intruders would quickly learn what happened to those who brought bloodshed and hostility to a place of peace and learning! He would not let them harm Charles or the children! Moving forward and dropping to all fours like a gorilla, Beast ducked a net thrown at him as he twisted his hips and landed a solid punch on a solider with a gun. The man flew back into a wall, denting it as he crumpled still to the floor. Then Hank began sweeping his arms about him, picking up the smaller men and tossing them with superhuman strength about the lobby. They flew like toys.

Beast roared as he felt tranqs enter his leg, the burning itchy heat spreading throughout his calf. He barreled down towards his new attacker, tackling him and knocking him out. Breathing heavy, blue furred chest heaving and eyes a little wild, Beast shook himself like a dog. Regaining some of his composure, he headed back towards the classrooms once he was sure the area was clear. The sounds of gunfire reached his ears and he glowered. They had even brought guns? His new aim was to try and to find remaining students or faculty to regroup with. Beast prayed the professor was alright.
