Who: Everyone!
When: Late Monday night, after curfew
Where: All over the mansion
What: Weapon X attack!
Notes: This is a bit long but please read all of it so everyone is on the same page. This thread will run like the field trip thread and you can also make separate threads if you want to. The attack will end with Weapon X eventually retreating, there will be another post for that later. Have fun :D

The soldiers had their orders. And while some thought the sheer number of the attack force to be rather ridiculous for a school, none would ever question their orders. Doing so never ended well. The Weapon X operatives had arrived on the mansion grounds mere minutes earlier, debriefed well before bypassing the security systems and the gates. They had already separated into their groups, most of them not expecting to see any action. It should have been a quick in and out job.

Vanessa Carylsle, pale-skinned and blonde-haired, led a small group of the top soldiers, taking them around to one of the small back doors that led in near the kitchen. She wrapped her arms tightly around her torso as one of the men picked the lock. They'd already hacked in, taken down all the security systems. They knew the mansion inside and out, every nook and cranny, every security measure. The door pushed open silently, and the group met the darkness of a school well after curfew, silent and empty. She knew students would be out after curfew, crammed in the Rec Room trying to avoid detection, visiting one another's rooms, getting ready to sneak out. She just hoped luck stayed with them. The former student led them past the kitchen, through the cafeteria (hearing a phantom crowd, remembering the laughter, the food fights, the arguments, the deep conversations, the scrambling to student for exams - she had to choke back a sigh), up the stairs, skipping the one that always creaked. As she headed the team, her mind swam with thoughts. They had brought so many soldiers! At least two per student and staff member. Even the dark-haired killing machine, the girl cloned from Logan, the most lethal weapon they had. Why would they bring her to a school full of children? Why so many soldiers? She prayed no one would see them, that they would grab Professor Xavier, find Cerebro, and make it out of there before anyone was the wiser. If not... She shuddered to think of the consequences.

The soldiers had their orders. Some found them strange, one or two might have considered them disturbing. But more of them looked forward to the chance to use their skills, stretch their legs, so to speak. They hoped something would go wrong, so they could have some fun. Some were armed with guns, some with tranquilizers, many of them had brought their own supplies, too: tasers, army knives, a night stick or two. They were prepared, the ones not charged with the stealth of a kidnapping waiting outside with baited breath, surrounding the mansion. They were to subdue the students and the staff that got in their way, to tranquilize anyone who interrupted - but they were to use lethal force on any threats. And a school full of mutants? The threats just ran rampant.

They were up the stairs. Vanessa led them past the student dormitories, to the staff suites. As they rounded on the hallway, she almost let out a sigh of relief. So far, so good. They had brought all that backup for nothing. They were so close, and with the security out of commission, who would get in their way? Logan might track them down later, but they would be long gone. She nodded down the hall, indicating a door on the other end of the hall. She should have brought them up the elevator, but feared it would alert someone to hear the mechanics of the elevator whirring. Slow but steady. They started down the hall, so close to their objective.

But so, so far. They made it only several steps down the hall when one of the doors opened. A lean redheaded man, clad only in green boxers, stepped out into the hall. Sean Cassidy craved a cup of coffee. And the craving had come at just the right time. The alert Irishman tensed the moment he walked into the hall, saw the shapes, let his eyes adjust to the darkness and even recognized one of the intruders. Oh hell. CHARLES. SAINTS ALIVE, CHARLES, GET UP. WE'RE UNDER ATTACK. He focused his thoughts on his old friend, well used to doing so after so many years. And he wasn't about to just leave it at a mental warning for the professor. His mouth opened at the same time, and a wordless scream left his lips - it served the dual purpose of alerting every staff member of the danger and pushed back the intruders with its psionic force. He turned, ran to Xavier's room.

Charles was startled awake by Sean's panicked thoughts. He instantly reached out telepathically. He saw for a moment what Sean saw, then tried to reach out to see into the minds of the people Banshee saw. He could see nothing. Xavier instantly sat up, pulling himself into his wheelchair. Not good. He couldn't sense any of the people he knew were in the hall. His eyebrows furrowed, knowing Sean would be with him in a moment. Everyone, wake immediately. We are under attack, soldiers in the staff hallway. There may be others. They are telepathically shielded. Protect the students and yourselves and evacuate them immediately. We do not know the extent of this attack yet, so be careful. He projected as calmly as he could - but he feared for the safety of all his students and all his staff. He never imagined something like this would happen.

Sean burst into the room. "Ye're first, Charles," he said, grabbing the wheelchair's handles. He sped into the hall. Xavier caught a glimpse of the attackers, tried to reach out to them mentally once more - but they were thoroughly shielded, every one of them. He frowned. He had to start the students' evacuations, he couldn't dwell on his inability to break past the impressive mental shields. Students, this is Xavier. I ask each and every one of you to follow the directions of the staff members who are about to find you without question and evacuate to the lower levels of the mansion as calmly and quickly as possible. Do not rush, do not get rambunctious and loud. Do as they ask, now. The now came out more forcefully than he meant.

The wheelchair sped into the elevator. Sean opened his mouth for one last scream, almost forcing the soldiers down the stairs. He slammed his hand into correct level number, and the doors closed. Xavier leaned his forehead into his hand, trying to keep track of the staff and students.

The soldier behind Vanessa frowned. He lifted his hand to his headset, clicking it on. "We've been compromised. Move in. Cut the power now." He wanted Xavier - and cutting the power gave them the powerful telepath caught in a solid metal cage. "Now!" he reiterated needlessly, just as their hacker forced his way into the right part of the system, cutting the power.

The power went out; the soldiers went in.

They had their orders.

Just then, the side wall to the foyer suddenly blew apart near the floor. Furniture was knocked aside as drywall and wood shattered past with a KABOOM. The explosion that went off was a deep yellow and burnt orange for a moment before disappearing into the dark, leaving behind smoke and ... the sounds of someone screaming?

"D'owww!" Sam Guthrie was spit out of the smoke and flame into the darkness of the foyer, flipping onto his stomach. He lay there a moment before picking himself off the ground, moaning at the pain he felt. The crash through the wall was fine. His blast field was active and he had been perfectly protected. It was losing his footing after he landed and smacking straight into the hardwood floor that left him with a welt on his abdomen, he was pretty sure.

Sam had taken to the air when it came time to evacuate from the boys dormitory. He hadn't been able to leave right away because he had to get dressed properly. Which wasn't normally a priority for the exhibitionist Guthries, but Sam was having trouble finding a pair of jeans in the dark when the power was killed. By the time he was decent enough to get out, he heard the sounds of fighting in the hallway and had to reconsider his escape route. ...so he jumped out the window. Sam had then rocketed into the air and figured on landing at the campus to get to the lower levels as instructed. His loud exit wasn't the smartest idea, but maybe it would help wake up anyone who had already fallen asleep. Unfortunately for Sam, while he was used to flying at night he wasn't used to flying at night without the lights on. Not just the lights from inside the buildings, but the porch, courtyard, and pool lights as well. The school he could faintly make the roof out as he shot into the horizon, but from above it all blurred together with little moonlight to help him fake it out. He thought he was stopping short of a wall, but instead he had completely overshot and only had time to curl up for impact. Which is how Sam Guthrie came to be lying in the foyer, a place which is very much not the front porch. Ow. Better luck next time.

He stumbled to his feet, hearing someone moving through the faint hiss of the smoke from his rocketing clearing. "Who's there?!" His night vision was shot to hell thanks to his blast field.

Laynia lifted her arms to shield her face from the sudden blast. "Chyort voz'mi!" she cursed. American's and their ridiculous firepower, always overcompensating by blowing everything up was their style. She was not dying for this country!! The darkforce swelled around her protectively, ready to swallow her up in a second if she felt threatened. A silence fell over the foyer, and realizing that the onslaught was not continuing, she lowered her arms to assess the damages. Upon closer inspection, Laynia was surprised to see the explosion was not caused by a bomb at all, but a boy! The Russian had seen a lot of things in her life, but she was temporarily mortified to find Sam sprawled out onto the floor. "Chuvak, are you alright?" He didn't look like a soldier, he must have been a student here at Xaviers. Had he been attacked? Thrown through the wall?

Laynia stepped up beside him in her nighties, "Fear not comrade." she extended a strong hand to help Sam to his feet, relieved to hear him speak. "I am Dar-, Laynia Petrovna. We must evacuate quickly to the lower levels as per Xavier's orders." Rescuing civilians often went hand-in-hand with these sorts of scenarios. "Can you walk?" Laynia feared they didn't have much time before that blast drew in some unwanted attention.

Despite the curious, non-threatening tone, Sam had backed up as Laynia first approached him. There had been some foreign language shouted somewhere and now Sam was frightfully thinking that the Russians had invaded. Damn communists! Sam hesitated, surprised when the girl around his age began speaking to him calmly. He still wasn't sure who she was exactly, the lights and the accent not helping. He had seen Laynia around, but had yet to speak to her. As far as Sam Guthrie knew, this was the invading enemy trying to lure him into some kind of trap! "Ah'm not yah... wait... huh?"

Sam had a guffaw as he realized Laynia knew about Xavier and had received his psychic orders. That must make her one of the good guys! Sam took a breath and nodded. "Right, right! Ah'm fine. We gotta get outta here! Elevators are this way, c'monnn...wait. Shoot!" Sam had an epiphany, remembering the power was out. "Darn, they probably aren't much good to us right now. Okay, okay. There's stairwells this way, down either hall." Sam nodded and began jogging toward the closest hallway, long legs carrying him quickly with relative ease.

To her horror, Laynia reeled back, pulling her hands away from Sam as if her were the plague!! That accent!! That distinctive American accent!! It was the one she was warned about the most. No, no, she was strictly told under all circumstances to avoid this type of US citizen. They were apparently more trouble than they were worth.

Sigh, he seemed to know the way though, and comrades were comrades. She couldn't be choosy in a situation like this. Laynia rubbed her eyes with her fingertips as Sam rambled on in his southern drawl. Quite honestly all American sounded mostly the same to her untrained ears, but this one was particularly distinct. Many of his words she couldn't understand, but Laynia took his lead since he seemed to know where he was going. She took off into the air again and followed behind Sam, but soon heavy steps of soldiers echoed down the hallway behind them and the lights of their flashlights shined. "We have company." Laynia sped forward and scooped Sam up from under the arms, lifting him into the air. A portal opened in front of them and she flew inside the darkforce.

Moments later they reemerged and Laynia set him down at the top of the staircase leading downstairs. She placed her hand against her head and gripped the banister for support. It was a lot harder to travel with two, but she would manage. "Down here?" she asked, gesturing to the stairs. The teleportation wasn't very far, and in a few moment's the soldiers would catch up to them.

Laynia's reaction was the one that Sam was having about her with her Russian accent. Sadly, Sam was far too trusting and took her at her word that she was on his side when she mentioned Xavier's name. But now that he thought about it, wasn't his name on the school's front sign? Maybe they knew Charles? For all Sam knew, he was now realizing, Laynia was still a bad guy. And here he was, showing her right to where the stairwell to the lower levels were. He slowed down intentionally, almost hesitating. Should he trust her? It was dark and for all he knew, she had a weapon concealed on her somewhere.

Then, before he could discern for sure, they had company and Laynia had scooped him up. "...wooooahey!" Sam cried from surprise, trying to assure Laynia. "It's okay, Ah can fly on ..." Then they had passed through something, Sam wasn't sure what. He hadn't been looking ahead when she grabbed him and he honestly might not have been able to see the portal properly even if he had been paying attention. When they emerged, Sam was mostly relieved to finally be let go. He hadn't even realized where they were, looking about only after her question.

"Huh? Uh..." Sam felt around, finding the other banister and looking back out into a hallway. He could spot moonlight accenting off the dorm buildings through a window, letting him know what part of the school he was at. "Son o' a gun. Yeah, this is it! ...you alright?" Sam asked, still hesitating on descending the steps despite the fact they were in the right place. He didn't want to turn his back and then got shot for his troubles. She had supposedly gotten them closer to safety, but what if it was all a ploy?

Lord. Reading science fiction and Terry's mystery novels over the weekend wasn't a good idea.

"I am fine. We must move quickly!" Laynia was already taking down the stairs as soon as Sam gave the green light. Stupid American boy, hesitating will get you killed! The footsteps and crackle of walkie-talkies began to swell from the other end of the hallway. "Shevelis'!" she called over her shoulder, chiding Sam to hurry up.

It didn't take very long until the soldiers reared the corner with their guns aimed high. Without a second thought, Laynia summoned the darkforce, shooting concussive blasts towards the enemies. It barreled over the first wave, but the second opened fire, darts flying everywhere.

"What? Ah'm comin', Ah'm comin'!" Sam insisted. At least she couldn't shoot him in the back now, so he followed suit. Hopefully it would get her to quit yelling at him in ... well, whatever language she was speaking. Maybe it wasn't Russian. There were lots of little countries that used to be in the Soviet Union that also talked like that, right?

These inappropriate thoughts distracted Sam, not even realizing the noise of the soldiers behind them until Laynia's darkforce blast shot right past him. "Woah!" Sam threw himself against the wall of the stairwell, stopping and pivoting to look up and confirm the soldiers were indeed there. He watched as another group seemed to replace the ones that Laynia's blasts knocked down, raising their weapons to fire. "Shoot!" Now it was Sam's turn for a save. He leapt the six stairs it took to get to Laynia and then grabbed onto her, pulling her away from her escape. His feet exploded and his blast field went up around both of them.

Sadly, Sam was building up pressure from his power. He needed to launch somewhere and he really didn't need to be destroying the stairwell so others couldn't escape. Maybe he could seal the path behind them? No no, same principle. They had to get clear. Stairwell lit up from Sam's powers and echoing with the roar of a rocket as tranquilizer's bounced or were shoved off from the smoke of his field, Sam panicked. He let go of Laynia, who was still roughly covered. He had to launch somewhere and it might as well be at the soldiers. But he didn't want to set Laynia back from her escape, or take off and injure her. "GO! I'll handle 'em!" Sam shouted over the roar of his field. The floor was positively thick with smoke from Sam and rising. He had to rocket fast, and that meant Laynia had to get clear fast.

She was swept up by surprise just as several tranquilizer darts flew past her. "They have M16's too!" Laynia reminded him uselessly, yelling over the roar of the shield. American's were supposed to be gun-nuts, so maybe he understand her terminology? When Sam released her, Laynia allowed her own powers to kick in and hovered in the air.

She waved her hand in the air to clear some of the rising smoke. It didn't take a genius to see that he was going to blast off any second. It was all happening very quickly, and the only part of Sam's words she understood was 'Go!'. Who was she to contest rocket-boy? "I hope you know what you are doing." She didn't totally trust leaving the situation in Sam's hands, but she didn't have much of a choice. With quick steps, she pushed her way through to clear the area and continue her escape.

Sam didn't know exactly what he was doing. He was hoping instead that this would be one of those situations where brute force came into his favor. The soldiers were practically plugging the door to get their shots in, lined up like bowling pins. Sam was the bowling ball. As soon as Laynia had flew down a tier of the steps Sam's feet lit up all over again and he shot at full speed back up the stairwell. The doorframe completely exploded as Sam's field hit before him, protecting the Kentucky boy. The explosion coupled with Sam's own high speed ramming sent soldiers sailing everywhere, whiplash being the least of the injuries after that.

Unfortunately, Sam didn't have enough momentum to stop after only a few feet. The back wall of the hallway exploded too and Sam soared off for parts unknown thanks to the laws of physics. After the continuing roar of Sam's field in the stairwell and the exploding walls, it was finally quiet in this part of the school for the first time in awhile.

After a few moments of silence, there was a dull roar and then a small slipstream of smoke as Sam Guthrie hopped back inside the building from the hole he had made. He had cut his blast field early and landed with feet running on the ground. "...d'oww." Man, first his stomach and now his ankles. Not the most graceful landing still thanks to the cramped conditions, but it appeared that all the soldiers were down. He hesitated as he always incorrectly did in this type of situation before descending the stairs again, hoping to catch up to Laynia. He had to make sure she wasn't up to anything still, after all!

Laynia didn't get too far, after all, as she didn't really know where she was going. Once she heard the explosion, it was hard not to race back to make sure her comrade was okay. Laynia waved her hand to clear some smoke, a shame she had missed the take off. Although it wasn't the most graceful of mutations, it proved to be quite effective in a pinch. She could no longer see Sam or the light he emitted, but heard the crash through drywall and watched the dust and debris sail overhead from her position at the bottom of the stairs. There was a moment of silence, and for a second Laynia thought he didn't make it. She was about to take up the steps to check, until she saw ol' Sam reemerge at the top of the stairs.

"In Russia we would call such actions foolish, but I hope you are alright, my friend." Laynia spoke to him as he turned back down and around the corner, "Come, quickly, before they return." If she knew soldiers like she knew soldiers, they would be back up in no time and hot on their trial.

Sam was waving the smoke too as he took the steps two at a time, almost missing Laynia and hitting her before her voice stopped him in his tracks. After a moment of surprise, Sam smiled at her more cordial greeting. "Miss me?"

"Yeah, here too. That or a death wish, but me? Mostly just too ign'ant tah know otherwise." Sam sold himself short all the time. He had a hard time believing any of the compliments he was ever given and didn't take them too seriously when he did. Guthrie was always too busy putting others first and that included putting them on a pedestal above himself in a variety of scenarios from skills to looks to usefulness. "Alright! When we get tah the bottom, make a right!" Sam instructed, as Laynia seemed to be leading the way again. "Danger Room and lower level access is thataway."
