Community Rules

This comm is open to anyone to post codes, layouts, resources, tutorials, and requests for help and content. Of course, we do have some rules, so please read through them before jumping in; thank you!

Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. This is not a drama comm, and we expect you guys to be awesome and stay civil. If a situation gets out of hand, please contact a mod, and leave comments intact so we can accurately handle the situation.

Please tag your posts and check out the tagging guide if you have any questions!

■ Very long posts or posts formatted with your own div styling for organization should be behind a cut to save people's f-lists.

Work safe above the cut, please!

■ If posting codes, guides, etc. absolutely do not post content that you did not make. That's stealing, and it's super uncool, bro! If you are posting expanded/edited codes made by yourself using another user's coding as well, please be sure you have their permission (You do not need direct permission if they allow edits to be re-posted in their blanket rules.)
■ Do not post tutorials/links to tutorials that show people how to steal codes from other users. Again: Stealing. Not cool.
When asking for help with something, please check the help tags (help: coding, help: graphics, help: icons, help: layouts, help: other) first to see if your question has already been posted and answered to avoid duplicates.

We do not allow game ads to be posted on this comm since there are so many communities specifically for that already; if you're pimping a game as an addition to a regular post, that's fine. (OK: You post an RP code and mention in the post, oh hey, also I'm running this game! NOT OK: Posts dedicated to game promo.)

We do allow other types of community promos if they are related to RP (icon comms, other types of resource comms, etc.) Just shoot us a comment in our dropbox beforehand and we'll let you know if it's cool to post!

Hat tip to [info]bojack, but I really liked this article We Are Not Therapists: Gaming and Trauma.

Be kind to one another out there, folks. And be especially kind to yourself.

Troubleshooting Your Characters
Problems I Haven't Figured Out How To Solve
I'm really late finishing this half of the character troubleshooting essays. I think part of the reason is I was originally going to save this one for last in the series, but it's where my brain is currently, so my essay on bad guys is going to have to come later.

One note about me that my friends have picked up on in gaming with me for almost a year now is I'm pretty ruthless and pragmatic about dropping characters. If a character isn't working, even if I have great love and affection for them, even if they do happen to have lines in a game, I let them go.

This essay is going to be pretty different from some of my previous works in a couple of ways. First, I don't really have a solution to the issues I'm raising. So while I talk about these characters, sound off in the comments if you've experienced anything similar or found a way to work around it on your own. Second, unlike other essays, I'm going to be specific and introspective to recent characters I've written and dropped, rather than broad and generic.

book bingo!

[info]karin
Hello, book bingo friends! I'm planning to do the FIFTH ANNUAL BINGO CHALLENGE for 2019! Holy shit, that is a lot of bingo and a lot of read books. I did a small revamp last year, with one big 5x5 bingo card, and then two small side bingos of 3x3 for bilingual and non-fiction reading. That feels like it was a little too much, at least for me who foolishly tried to do all three of them. I think the only one I'll actually manage is the bilingual one, because I only have two squares left to fill.

Either way, [info]fjords and I discussed if for 2019, maybe we should do two 4x4 cards instead, one for fiction and one for non-fiction. That'd be good for people who look to read more in both those areas, but less so for the ones that just wants one big card. So, thoughts on that?

And as usual I also take suggestions of things to put on the card! They might not all end up there, but I tend to use some. And for reference, these are things that I've used before. Some I'll reuse every year, some I swap back in every few years, and some (like year's best list) are new from year to year. Some are just for fun (more than 500 pages, more than x years old, etc), and some are meant to make us read more diversely, to seek out new, interesting stuff or to read things we already own, because lbr, that's something we're all bad at. New shiny books are always more fun!

(Also, hit me with links to lists of book recommendations! I like to include 2-3 of those.)

Welcome to another episode of Reasons Why Kellie is Awake!

Tonight it's a gross stomach that I'm trying to determine where it came from and why. It's great fun!

While I'm on the subject of wheres and whys, I would like to put out an A.B.P. to determine where my motivation has gone and why it decided to up and leave.

I feel like I was in the same sort of funk last year around this time. Granted the other day was the third anniversary of my grandmother's passing (which, whoa. It's already been three years?? That is crazy!) so I was feeling exceptionally nostalgic mixed with melancholia.

It's particularly troublesome because I love Christmas. I love watching the Hallmark movies, the music, the decorations, the specials, the baking, and just the general feeling you should have around the season.

Yet, I feel like something is missing. Something just feels off. Like there's a light that just won't light. It could just be in my head, which is entirely possible, but ugh. I hate that feeling.

I also love that I have these moments when everyone is sleeping. Oops?

Are you, the discerning RPer, looking for a low-key place to play your original characters? With a low activity requirement and no huge over-arching plot? Do you just want to write without pressure, without having to necessarily react to some huge crisis?

Come check out [info]springs_mods! It's a low-key OC game set in a newly-built apartment building in the heart of D.C. But there's no political intrigue running the whole game, there's no supernatural creatures, no murder most foul, just people all moving in to the same building and having to live together. You can explore relationships of whatever flavor you want: family, friend, romantic.

Silver Springs is a quiet slice-of-life game that will be starting once we get a few more players. Bring whatever you want to the table, as long as they're not a vampire.
