A while back I modded a game with two other players, then down to one, then the second came back as a player. This was all well and good, and the game ran down eventually a few years ago.

Fast forward to last week and one of the former players got in contact (I made the mod journal so I got the notification) about if it was ever possible to re-open the game. I've been missing the game since virtually the moment it closed and we started talking and are going to do it.

I have of course contacted both past mods and asked if they were interested in returning to co-mod or had any objection to my re-opening with a new mod team.

I haven't heard back from them, and I'm just wondering how long I need to give them to reply to me before fully moving on with the re-opening with the new mod team? It'll be a week since I contacted them before anything serious happens and likely somewhat longer before the game will be fully ready, but I'm not sure I shouldn't allow a bit more time.

Looking for some more advice but this one's far less thorny than my last one.

I have a player whose character has a large family. They are wanting to play one of the same character's children for another line they would like to bring in. They have said that they will not play 'with themselves' as in one on one scenes with those characters for AC, that all - or at least most - interaction with the characters will be in group scenes. I can't see a reason to say no to the request, but I just wanted to get some perspective. I will add there are two other family members in game, as well as the line they are planning with a different character which is why they want to bring the new character in, so I don't have any worries that they will end up using this situation to fudge on AC.

Co-Mods, Interest Check?

So I have this idea I will be working on, it's a darker, kind of slice of life thing, but supernatural! If that doesn't scare you away, I'm looking for interest, possibly co-mods to work on it. There will be different types of animal shifters, each with its own lore, at least one will be based on Native American stories from my own tribe. While it will be a town and a slice of life kind of game, there will be darker plots, built around the created canons for people to get started. A few for each species and with enough information for people to make them their own, but with enough background to give some intrigue and backstory to the town and species that gives long term plottage! So far I'm planning on having the usual werewolves, but also bears, ravens, hawks, foxes. Possibly leopards as well and maybe vampires. There will of course be humans. Perhaps to join the ranks of the shifters depending on how you can do so, and yes everyone knows about the supernatural, there is no secret species really. I have some ideas for the different backgrounds of the main species for drama and connections.

About me, I am in my mid-forties, I role-play pretty much anything and am very open to ideas. I am working and in school so busy, but still able to be around online and do posts at least every other day! I love working with others, but my number one rule is that people have to be respectful, even if they disagree. If anyone is interested feel free to reply or PM me!

I had to go through a lot of old journals to find one that had access here!

Anyway, I'm modding a small game. No real pb challenges or anything like that - first come, first served, etc.

But someone has applied for a character that, unknown to them, another person was considering. The person who applied (as far as I know, anyway) wasn't on the lines comm and didn't know the other player was talking about joining, they just set up their character and applied, then found out when they joined the lines comm.

Note: the character was not held by the first person - they were just discussing the face on the lines comm. I believe the discussions are still ongoing.

Now the second player knows about the other player, they've asked me what they should do.

My own instinct is to either say "go ahead" because if the first player wanted to use that particular face so badly they should have held the pb, or ask the players to deal with it themselves and if they can't to come to me - where I would likely rule in favor of the second player as they have the character set up. This would also include encouraging the first player to join with another face.

I've just never had this issue come up before, so would like some outside perspective that I'm handling it okay so far and that my instincts are heading in the right direction, or if I'm going the wrong way - either is certainly possible!

Looking potentially for a co-mod, definitely for players, for this game. I've tried once before to start it but it spluttered and died before it really had a life, so I'm trying again - it's been overhauled, revamped, and all those other good things. I've been hard at work making it look as lush as possible! Please give it a look if you have the time :)

Would anyone be interested in getting a zombie game started? (more than stumbling corpses) The severe lack of them on this server is disappointing and disturbing.

I have two panfandom game ideas and I'd like to get one or the other off the ground. At the risk of posting it here and then seeing someone steal them, I'll post both of the ideas. though they're probably not as great as I'm thinking lol These are really old ideas I never did anything with.

virtual insanity )

idea 2 )

Anyway, the first one is fairly complex, more thought out and the second one can use some work. It's vaguer. I'd prefer doing the first one more because I've never seen it done before. I think it's unique? and could be interesting. I'd like to know if anyone would be interested in this. If so, would anyone be willing to co-mod? (Serious though) I'm great at keeping up with applications, holds, keeping things in order but there are times I need someone to collaborate with me on ideas for mod run plots. Sometimes my brain just doesn't work.

I imagine the first idea has endless possibilities.

RPO game interest?

Heya! Out of curiosity I was wondering if people here would be in the market for a game based on the world built by Ernest Cline in "Ready Player One"...?

I've got some ideas for a PB/OC game that would really just be borrowing the world structures and maybe some worldly canon backstory. No canon characters would be playable for the most part.

Since the online Ready Player One wiki isnt even up to date/accurate I'd pretty much be doing a lot of the world breakdown from scratch. So...in theory people probably wouldnt even have to of read the book to be able to play. But, I want to gauge interest before engaging in the time suck of building it all out.

This might even be a better question to ask in a year after the Spielberg adaption comes out. But I figured I'd put out the feelers now and go from there! Thanks in advance!

Game Directory

Would there be interest in a game directory community? Instead of new ads being posted constantly for the same games over and over, each game would post one time and then players could search by tags for games that met what they were looking for?

mods? creative souls?

I posted this concept as an interest check on rpg-d, and got some great feedback, and I'm hoping to find abled beings who would like to help shape a rather extensive, magical world into game fruition once again.

I did this game is 2008 called Augury. It was about magical families coming together, with each family holding it's own head of house that was based on a magical school from Dungeons & Dragons. The journal was deleted, sadly. However, in 2008 my eighteen-year-old self posted an ad with the entire plot on ~wanna_rp, and for kicks, you can view it here.

In 2016 I'd like to reattempt said game, but give it a more Game of Thrones, political vibe, filled with witch hunters and backstabbers with some juicy character development. If you'd like, you can view my interest check here.

I'm looking for creative souls in hashing out surnames, family backgrounds for the houses, city locations, etc. I'm alone on this one, and I really need some brainstorming to really get the creative flowing. I'm also considering hosting the renewed game on jcink, versus journaling, and am hoping to find someone who is a chameleon in roleplaying platforms.

This is mostly curiosity rather than annoyance, but in general, if you have a character journal at a gpsl, is it usual etiquette to only use that journal for the gpsl or is it accepted that you can seek other lines with that journal? I just found it a little odd seeing it, personally, but I don't know if general gpsl rules are different to communities.

The x year rule - how do you usually see it used? Should it be to do with the real life age of the pb, or age-appropriate to the icons used? I always thought it was to do with the real life age, nothing to do with icons used. So I couldn't play Eric Dane (guy in my icon) at 24, because he's 43 - I could play him anywhere from 36 to 50 in a game with the seven year rule, for example.

But I have someone wanting to use a pb in a game I run who is using the age appropriate in the icons reason. I have the seven year rule in effect and it's been in effect for a long time. But on the other hand, is this a modly hill to die on, when the icons do work as a younger character?

Seeking advice

So I have a small gpsl with a niche interest (would rather not go further into detail on what it is). Long story short, there's a particular player with said niche interest who ragequit the game a while back. However, they are trying to come back, again and again, with new characters. To the point of asking for lines against players that they have antagonized and hurt in the past while pretending to be a completely different player, or at least not disclosing that they are the player from before.

I don't know what to do. We basically allow everyone in who applies. I can't think of a good reason to refuse them membership.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to handle this issue?

Acceptable or Worthy of Rejection?

I've recently found myself in a sticky and uncomfortable situation that, quite frankly, I need some advice on from other mods. Currently, I've waited about a day and half for an OC applicant to make some kind of OOC note or disclaimer stating that they've used information from a canon character wiki with only minor changes made and a link back to the page. I asked them to do this because I was not comfortable accepting the application as-is (because, let's face it, dire warnings from high school and college of plagiarism ran rampant through my head), but the longer I'm waiting for the changes to be made, the more I'm uncomfortable with the whole thing. Long story short, is what they've done considered acceptable in the RP world and is what I've asked them to do also acceptable or should I be flat out rejecting this application?

Updated (6:37am EST): An idea that I've thought about since initially posting this—Offer the applicant the alternative of playing the canon character but allowing them to diverge from a certain canon point. This would also include an entirely different PB and allow them to use the PB of their choice instead of the PB that is canon. It just seems to me that if all they're doing is slapping on alternate name and only changing the surname of the canons alias that maybe they should play the canon character and just diverge from the canon. This seems reasonable to me, but thoughts would be immensely appreciated.

I'm looking for co-mod(s) to discuss several different game options with, since the gpsls I try to start with friends never seem to go anywhere and I'd actually like to... well, play.

Is it just me, or are there only a handful of RP options around these days? Everything is either a) Harry Potter, b) superheroes, c) supernatural-themed, d) celeb/faux celeb. And the few games that don't follow the "norm" are basically gpsls with little to no activity going on.

This isn't a complaint, really. I'm genuinely curious. Is that all the majority of people are interested in?

Any tips for getting a game off the ground which doesn't include the aforementioned settings?

Seeking Co-Mod(s)

Anyone interested in co-modding a game in the Mortal Instruments universe? With the show coming around the corner, I have a feeling there will be a lot of interest but I could be wrong. The universe will be canon, but I'm aiming to step away from playing canon characters in game--this of course could change.

I am looking for someone to bounce ideas off of about a Cthulhu Mythos/cosmic horror game - I keep getting lost in my ideas and need someone to kind of help sort out some kinks. (My original idea was for a panfandom boarding school game and I keep trying to go back to that but I'm not sure how.) Any up for plotting or just unraveling an idea?

(Also potentially looking for a co-mod? If it turns out to be a functional idea.)

Non-Supernatural Themed Games

I made this game because I couldn't find anything like it out there - something with no magic, no werewolves or vampires or zombies, something that isn't post-apocalyptic or set in a world other than our own...

I guess the question now is, where do I find players? I mean obviously, advertising in all the usual places is a good first step. But on places like rp_vents, people are always saying about how they want threads, and well written characters, and comms that aren't just lyrics posts... I guess I wanna know where they hang out.

...also any tips about moderating that people wanna give me, would be greatly appreciated... I mean I've played in enough games that I have a rough idea how to go about it (including one game that taught me how NOT to mod, haha) but I'm not silly enough to think I know it all.
