A while back I modded a game with two other players, then down to one, then the second came back as a player. This was all well and good, and the game ran down eventually a few years ago.

Fast forward to last week and one of the former players got in contact (I made the mod journal so I got the notification) about if it was ever possible to re-open the game. I've been missing the game since virtually the moment it closed and we started talking and are going to do it.

I have of course contacted both past mods and asked if they were interested in returning to co-mod or had any objection to my re-opening with a new mod team.

I haven't heard back from them, and I'm just wondering how long I need to give them to reply to me before fully moving on with the re-opening with the new mod team? It'll be a week since I contacted them before anything serious happens and likely somewhat longer before the game will be fully ready, but I'm not sure I shouldn't allow a bit more time.

Looking for some more advice but this one's far less thorny than my last one.

I have a player whose character has a large family. They are wanting to play one of the same character's children for another line they would like to bring in. They have said that they will not play 'with themselves' as in one on one scenes with those characters for AC, that all - or at least most - interaction with the characters will be in group scenes. I can't see a reason to say no to the request, but I just wanted to get some perspective. I will add there are two other family members in game, as well as the line they are planning with a different character which is why they want to bring the new character in, so I don't have any worries that they will end up using this situation to fudge on AC.

I had to go through a lot of old journals to find one that had access here!

Anyway, I'm modding a small game. No real pb challenges or anything like that - first come, first served, etc.

But someone has applied for a character that, unknown to them, another person was considering. The person who applied (as far as I know, anyway) wasn't on the lines comm and didn't know the other player was talking about joining, they just set up their character and applied, then found out when they joined the lines comm.

Note: the character was not held by the first person - they were just discussing the face on the lines comm. I believe the discussions are still ongoing.

Now the second player knows about the other player, they've asked me what they should do.

My own instinct is to either say "go ahead" because if the first player wanted to use that particular face so badly they should have held the pb, or ask the players to deal with it themselves and if they can't to come to me - where I would likely rule in favor of the second player as they have the character set up. This would also include encouraging the first player to join with another face.

I've just never had this issue come up before, so would like some outside perspective that I'm handling it okay so far and that my instincts are heading in the right direction, or if I'm going the wrong way - either is certainly possible!

Seeking advice

So I have a small gpsl with a niche interest (would rather not go further into detail on what it is). Long story short, there's a particular player with said niche interest who ragequit the game a while back. However, they are trying to come back, again and again, with new characters. To the point of asking for lines against players that they have antagonized and hurt in the past while pretending to be a completely different player, or at least not disclosing that they are the player from before.

I don't know what to do. We basically allow everyone in who applies. I can't think of a good reason to refuse them membership.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to handle this issue?

Acceptable or Worthy of Rejection?

I've recently found myself in a sticky and uncomfortable situation that, quite frankly, I need some advice on from other mods. Currently, I've waited about a day and half for an OC applicant to make some kind of OOC note or disclaimer stating that they've used information from a canon character wiki with only minor changes made and a link back to the page. I asked them to do this because I was not comfortable accepting the application as-is (because, let's face it, dire warnings from high school and college of plagiarism ran rampant through my head), but the longer I'm waiting for the changes to be made, the more I'm uncomfortable with the whole thing. Long story short, is what they've done considered acceptable in the RP world and is what I've asked them to do also acceptable or should I be flat out rejecting this application?

Updated (6:37am EST): An idea that I've thought about since initially posting this—Offer the applicant the alternative of playing the canon character but allowing them to diverge from a certain canon point. This would also include an entirely different PB and allow them to use the PB of their choice instead of the PB that is canon. It just seems to me that if all they're doing is slapping on alternate name and only changing the surname of the canons alias that maybe they should play the canon character and just diverge from the canon. This seems reasonable to me, but thoughts would be immensely appreciated.

Non-Supernatural Themed Games

I made this game because I couldn't find anything like it out there - something with no magic, no werewolves or vampires or zombies, something that isn't post-apocalyptic or set in a world other than our own...

I guess the question now is, where do I find players? I mean obviously, advertising in all the usual places is a good first step. But on places like rp_vents, people are always saying about how they want threads, and well written characters, and comms that aren't just lyrics posts... I guess I wanna know where they hang out.

...also any tips about moderating that people wanna give me, would be greatly appreciated... I mean I've played in enough games that I have a rough idea how to go about it (including one game that taught me how NOT to mod, haha) but I'm not silly enough to think I know it all.

Hello everyone! I am tossing around ideas for a Harry Potter, Next Generation game, and would love someone else to work with. I have had this idea ever since I read the last Harry Potter book, I've simply never had the nerve to get up and make the idea an actual thing. However, over the last two years or so, I've been stumbling over Insanejournal and the RP scene, really trying to find a place I want to be part of. I have not Roleplayed, honestly, in over a year, but I keep coming back to look... to see, hoping. It seems like when I find a game that might be interesting, it's not what it seems to be on the outside. I'm Judging the book by the cover and once I open it up, it's failing to produce any emotion. That feeling you get when you read the premise to a game, and you instantly go, you had me at hello.

Well, I want to have you at hello. This would be a darker, but still Hogwarts-fluffy game, because that's what Harry Potter was. It wasn't all dark and dirty, it was humor and love and joy as well. I have a basic timeline of events explaining the basis of the premise and what not, and would love to share if anyone is interested.

PS: The mod journal is empty, no reason to go searching.

Hunger Games...

I'm thinking of starting a Hunger Games RPG. I'm in the market for a co-mod/co-conspirator. My husband and I were going to try and do it ourselves, but between work and our little one, we thought a third person would be for the best. The information is in this journal for anyone who is curious. It isn't finished completely.

Not exactly the proper, 'I have a game but can't run it', more just a small idea. Would anyone be willing to open a future bases Charmed game? Based around the idea of the reincarnated sisters and other characters.

Would anyone be interested in joining or helping me co-mod a second generation multi-fandom game? I would need help fleshing out the concept but I'm thinking a boarding school. I am open to other ideas if anyone has any. I'm pretty good with plots but would need help with coding and making graphics/ads. Anyone interested?

Aching for a co-mod

I'm looking to start up a game but dying for a co-mod. I'm open to bouncing ideas around, but I've been fiddling around with the possibility of something with the Mayan Apocalypse but mixed with something supernatural. Instead of the end of the world, the Apocalypse dawns the end of an era and supernatural things start happening. If anyone is aching for a brand new game, message me here and I can give you more details :)

I am in need of opinions, and mod help with an awesome game I came up with. The basics are located @ [info]candleinsnow.

What I want to know is:

Should the game be on ij or should it be forum based? PUTTING IT ON IJ WINS!

Should we use pseudonyms to keep the game "anon" if it would promote less potential drama? What kinds of plot do you want to see (something WILL be happening with the muggles/muggleborns up in Scotland and Harry down in France EVENTUALLY)? Should I add more people? Etc.

What other input do you have to give?

Who wants to help me mod this? I'm looking for 2-3 more people! (I need a nit-picker, coding help never hurts, and help with activity checks.)

PPS: The 'taken' list is inaccurate right now cause some people bailed on me. So only look at the names and such. Not the pbs/journals/etc. ALSO: It's NOT based on GoT. It was INSPIRED BY the first couple episodes. I worded that wrong.

PPPS: I'm removing the rules for now as they'll need to be re-worked.

Hello, lovely people of [info]modcooperative  . I'm here today to ask for feedback, ideas and suggestions.

A friend and I are making a game. It is an AU Batman Nolan-verse inspired game but with a completely different twist. We will be taking elements of video games, board games and table-top roleplaying games into our game's mechanics and I hope that you will take a look and tell us your thoughts. Is it too complicated? Is there something wrong? Have you done something similar and want to offer a suggestion? Please feel free to do so below.

Cut for length. )

Clone High: The College Years

Does anyone remember the series Clone High? I've wanted to create a game based on that show for a really long time, but more recently I've been toying with the idea of having it set at a college. I've got a few more ideas for it, but was wondering if anyone would like to possibly co-mod, or if anyone else finds the idea intriguing.

Seeing Co-Mods

Anyone out there interested in modding a game set in approx 1910-ish? The premise is that Arianna Dumbledore died of natural causes, freeing Albus to travel the world with Gellert. I'm not sure of an over-arching plot (maybe Gellert and Albus have plans to take over the Ministry, or a Dark Wizard decides to try to take over...IDK, it can be worked out). I just think it'd be really interesting to explore the Wizarding world in the early 20th century and also give Albus and Gellert a happy-ever-after at least for a while. PM or comment here if you want to chat.

IC Drama

This might be a weird question, but what do other people do when in character threads are becoming too filled with drama (sometimes bordering on crack) and veering away from the premise of the game? (Keeping in mind that the game in question is 1.) Glee-based, so a certain level of OTT stuff is expected and 2.) an AU where the characters have super powers) But there are a few story lines going on currently that just don't fit the overall tone of the game I want to present. I don't want to be SUPER CONTROLLY MOD, but I want to encourage more overall character development and less focus on angst smutty shipping lines.

So, are there any suggestions? (I've got a few game-wide plots planned, and we do random threads every now and then to get people interacting with character they normally might not.)

Re-Launching a Game

I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I've been running a game for about four months and everything is still really active, but due to school and time restraints, we've lost quite a few players, mostly those that are essentially OC's (name only characters and family members of canon characters). When I took a game-wide poll the players left decided that instead of us trying to recast those characters that we just relaunch the game, omitting the storylines that said characters were involved with and moving things around.

Here's where I'm having a problem; I've never re-launched a game before and everyone that I know who has has only done so after the game has died plot-wise (i.e. things died down, they closed, re-did some things, and re-opened after a few months or weeks). What is the best way to go about relaunching the game when it's still open, we've got active plots going on, and we have a ton of holds and apps in process?

Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated.

Hi everyone. I'm trying to open a game - it's very much still in the planning stages, and I feel like I've spent a lot more time on the code than on the actual content. Pretty much every page is up for tweaking and revision. But the biggest problem I'm having is with the FAQ section.

My game is about students in a boarding school, holding out against a zombie apocalypse. Everyone inside the school is safe (as much as you can be), everyone outside is Infected. What I need right now, is someone to look at what I have and ask me questions, in a Devil's Advocate sort of way. It's not that I don't know the information, it's that I'm having trouble thinking of what needs to be included, and what people are likely to wonder about (some things that seem obvious to me, might not to others).

I'd really appreciate concrit, because I've spent a lot of time and effort on the game and pages, and I'd like to know, as players and as mods, what the good points are and what I need to tighten up before I can think about advertising.

Thanks!

Help and feedback!

So, I'm new to this whole modding thing, but have been in a few really good games in the past. I even spoke to my former mods, before I went about setting up the game I've just opened, and received some really good advice. I think it's a good game, has a lot of creative freedom available, and I think a good premise.

The problem is, we're not having many bites, and I can't quite understand why. I'm starting to think that people favor fandom games more than original games, or even celeb games. I would love to have some opinions, suggestions... someone to tell me what I'm doing wrong even?

Thanks in advance! And this is my game.

feedback/interest check

Hello all, I was browsing around and this seemed like the perfect place to sound off my ideas. A friend of mine approached me a couple days ago with an idea for a roleplay, and I've been working on setting up a forum for it...

Then I probably realized I should see if this idea was appealing to anyone else before I got too far. Basically, the very rough general premise is this: a boarding/training school for high school (or college, we haven't decided on age-group yet) kids with powers of various sorts (general origins being magic, mutation, science! and apex normal)...It's a pretty large compound that's self-contained, probably the size of a small town. It's set in a general, unnamed multiverse and will accept both original and fandom/literature/etc. characters. The school was founded by Dorian Gray, and has faculty that includes people like Dr. Jekyll, Alexander Hartdegen, etc. Plot will be largely interaction based (classes, rivalries, faculty romances etc.), with mod-hosted events every now and then.

Anywho, is this something any of you would be interested in? Feedback? And if there's anyone out there who might be interested in modding, or playing one of the founders (would really like to find someone for Dorian as he is the headmaster after all)...please reply here or e-mail me at thegrayacademy@gmail.com.

Thanks for your time!

edit: doh, I shouldn't post so late. I forgot the 'the' at the beginning of the e-mail. Terribly sorry if anyone tried to send e-mails, proper e-mail is now listed above.
