I know it was awhile ago, but that dance Thea had at Verdant was really cool. Maybe I needed to get out of Lawrence to I think sometimes we don't do enough things like that - just getting together and having a good time - with everything else that goes on around here. The last couple of weeks, I've been trying to focus more on the good in my life instead of dwelling on all the bad shit that's happened here, especially lately. It's weird to think I've been here for a little more than a year now. So much has A lot has happened in that year, both good and bad, but I think the good actually outweighs the bad, overall.

I'm sorry I've been a crap friend lately. I'm sorry I pushed pretty much all of you guys away when Kenzi got taken back and just kind of retreated into this black hole. I'm just real tired of losing the people I care about. I know I should be used to it by now but I'm not, and when it's the people who I'm really close to it hurts more. And I'm just tired of all of this crap happening all the time.

I promise, though, when I get back I'm going to try and be a better friend. And you guys can hold me to that.

Thank God for my teacher's assistant, I swear. I think she'll be a godsend this semester, when we get everything up and running completely and I'm splitting my time between the university and the med centre. Has everyone else at the university survived their first week well enough?

So it appears as though my availability for the semester will be any day except Mondays, Wednesdays and my office hours on Fridays, which are from eleven to two this semester, plus any assorted faculty meetings or functions I have to be a part of. Is that going to be all right with both of you?

After glancing at the calendar this morning it dawned on me that a very special little boy will be turning 5 in 47 days. I want this birthday to be unlike any that he has ever had and so therefore it will be a grand affair. The proverbial floor is open for theme suggestions.

You are also all cordially invited to come join us on September 7 for a Labor Day celebration. All you need bring is yourself and proper pool attire.

When they said strange things happened here, they weren't lying. I don't think I've ever seen exactly what I've seen in the past month or so that I have been here.

I thought I would settle more easily, but this has been challenging.

Oh wow, this is nice. I hadn't expected to see that. I just found my family photo album in my room. I know I didn't bring it with me when I came here. Never saw it.. until now. It has pictures of me and my parents, from when I was born til a week before I came here. Out of anything of mine that could come here, more than money, or my home, this is what I'd value most. A connection to my memories of them.

And, also. If anyone from my family shows up and is skeptical of me being one of them, the book can be reviewed as proof from the pictures. But mostly, I'm just glad to be able to look through the book one more time. Anyone might like to view it too, you're welcome to visit and I'll show it to you. Oh man, this is so awesome!!

I'm considering doing a semester abroad in the spring. My Adaptive leadership professor is trying to talk me into it.

I'm not sure it's a good idea, given how insane things are here and I'm not sure leaving is the right thing.

Rose and Jim will soon be out of the country and enjoying a forced vacation. I'll pass messages along to them should you all need to get in contact with them. Or you can wait until they return. They should be home in a week.

Shame it couldn't have had a piece of the Death Note in it. Would have made things interesting around here.

I've got two hunts here that I can't take on at once. The first is in Florida. Witnesses say they saw a woman vanish through a wall on two different counts before finding bodies massacred nearby. There's also a claim that a small girl did the same thing when the coroners were hauling one of the bodies out. Sounds like a haunting. The second? Minnesota. People are committing crimes they swear they aren't responsible for. Good reputations, stable careers and family lives. I was able to get my hands on some security footage of one of a robberies one of the accused was involved in and I'm pretty sure we're looking at a shifter case.

Anyone with hunting experience want to help? I'm thinking three could take on the haunting while I take two with me to figure out what's going on with the potential shapeshifters.

I know the college semester just started but so far it seems a lot like high school. Just...bigger and more spread out.
