In summary: People are loud. They don't know how not to be. We appreciate your trying to think quietly, but realise it's difficult at the best of times. We know it is rarely the best of times. We do not need people to 'fight our corner' every time it gets loud.
Other 'readers': there is a garden on the complex roof. Karl showed it to me when I first arrived - a space for impossible things like creeping basil and winter strawberries. Plants think quiet thoughts, inoffensive: grow, drink, seek light, and they and I don't mind the company if the rest of the world gets too loud.
Non-readers: I would appreciate it if, when you're being loud, you could avoid the garden - it's not fair to say where you can and can't go, I know, and it's not a perfect solution but until we find one it would help.
