Who: Marian and Robin
What: Reunion of sorts
When: Early Afternoon
Where: The Library
Rating: TBD
Status: Complete

Marian brushed a curl back from her face, the loose bun not really keeping a hold of the curls all that well. She finished soon, that she was a little glad of. She had to come in rather early that morning and as fantastic as this place could be, it had been a little too quiet. Until five minutes ago, of course, when one of the girls who worked there with her realised Marian was leaving in twenty minutes so thought now would be a good time to pile her with the books that had to get put away. At least she didn't have to carry them, these little trolley things really were fantastic. She could get this done in no time, if she could just get to the right aisle.

She only had a couple more to put back, so she stopped next to where they kept the computers to fix the cream blouse she had on, the silk making her grin. Clothes were so easy to get now, and she rather appreciated the money she got from working here that allowed her to buy such nice things. Just as she was about to start pushing the trolley again a rather familiar face caught her attention from the corner of her eye. A grin split across her face as she found it difficult to breathe for a second.

"Robin?" she said quiet enough that it wouldn't bother others here, but loud enough that he wouls hear.

Robin stared at what he had been told was called a "computer" in confusion. It all sounded so ridiculous, and he was tempted to stand up, walk outside, and try to find someone who might offer an explanation that made more sense than this. At least, speaking to someone face-to-face would not be quite as absurd as supposedly doing so through a box; and it would be quicker than spelling out words by pressing a letter at a time. But, even if he did ask around, how did he know whom to trust?

It occurred to him that he might be hallucinating. His dreams were never this real, except for the nightmares that made him relive--

No. This was not one of those, so there was no sense considering the horrific memories that constituted his nightmares. Perhaps he was ill? Or, had he been drugged? Did Gisborne poison him somehow?

Regardless of what had caused his current predicament, it seemed real enough, and he could hardly sit around, pressing letters, until the gang either figured out how to heal him, or he died.

That outcome would be ironic, if it came so immediately after his decision to try to resume his life.

Or... there was always the chance that this was real. But how could that be? After what he had witnessed on Crusade, he found it easier to believe in demons and angels masquerading as humans, than he would have done before. But time travel? The End of Days?

He slowly got to his feet, wondering if he should go with this Andrea Rojas when she arrived. She had seemed very helpful on the computer, but he had no way of knowing if he was doing the right thing. If this was a figment of his imagination, was it possible for him to make a wrong choice? If it was real, how could he make a right one?

As he pondered the situation, a voice from nearby made him freeze. It had been so soft, and only a single word-- his name,-- but it sounded so much like her...

Afraid to turn toward it in case he was wrong, he forced himself to do so, nonetheless. When he did, he knew he was dead. Her clothing was odd, but there was no question as to her identity.

This may not have been the afterlife he had envisioned, but it was better than he probably deserved, if she was here. But she surely deserved better than anything he got.

"Marian?" he asked hoarsely. He took a step toward her, but was suddenly overwhelmed by everything that had happened, and fell to his knees.

Her grin only got wider when he looked at her, proving that it really was him. He looked so different to when she last saw him, his clothes not as soft as before. But that didn't matter, he was here. She forgot all about her work, that could wait. If she had to stay later she would stay later. Right now, all she cared about was getting to him. Just as she started to walk to him she saw him fall and she rushed as fast as she could, instantly kneeling in front of him.

"Robin? Robin, what is it?" she asked, her hand coming to his shoulder as the other cupped his cheek. He was scaring her, she had never seen him like this before.

He had only half-believed that she would be waiting for him when he passed, his faith having been sorely tested the last several years. But despite his joy at finding that she was here, the manner in which it was occurring had him confused.

She had smiled at first, but now appeared concerned, possibly even bordering on frightened, as she knelt in front of him. His eyes drifted shut as she touched him, never having expected to experience that again; with the sensation, every worry he had temporarily dropped away. However, he could not ignore that something was wrong, was upsetting Marian, and he met her beloved gaze.

His fingers shook as he brushed them lightly over her hair. "You are even more beautiful than I remembered." As he brought his hands to her face, he could not hold back a smile. "I've missed you."

She stroked his cheek softly, careful not to press too hard with her hand in case the simple ring she had bought to replace the one he gave her hurt him, waiting for some sort of comfort from him. A cheeky remark about their situation or some god awful line about her beauty making him fall to his knees. He'd tried lines like that before. But then his eyes were closing and she got a little more comfortable in front of him, not knowing how this was going to end.

A smile came to her face as he finally touched her, the gentle carresses she had missed whilst being here. Her eyes stayed on his and for a moment she thought she would just fall. But then he was speaking, his hold moving to her face and she let herself melt into the hold.

"I've missed you," she said with a smile before she turned a little more serious. Yes she was glad to be with him again, but there was something else on her mind. "Did you manage to save the King in time? I was just going to stop Guy when I found myself here. Please say he's still alive."

His smile disappeared, and he stared at her uncomprehendingly. Had she forgotten? That seemed unlikely, if she remembered what had come immediately before. Absently running his thumbs over her cheekbones, he nodded. "Yes, we saved the King, although Vaizey shot him."

As her words sunk in, his breath left him. I was just going to stop Guy when I found myself here.

This was real. Every bit of it. He did not know why that suddenly made him so certain, but he knew that this was no hallucination, no purgatory. And Marian had no idea what had happened in their own time.

"You were brought here before... before Guy--" He could not finish. How could he tell her that Gisborne had run her through? That she was mere moments from death when she was pulled into this strange world? How could he describe how the heaviness on his soul had far outweighed the burden of her still body as he had laid her in the ground?

As steadily as possible, he got to his feet and held out a hand to help her up. "It's no matter. The important thing is that we are together." He hoped that the smile he gave her was convincing, and did not appear as forced as it was.

"Not to a tailor's, then." It was a statement more than a question; now that the initial shock of suddenly finding himself in such an unfamiliar place had passed, Robin was very curious about how it worked. The casual way Marian was talking about going to the markets-- the shops-- made him suspect that his concern about cost was unfounded. She had never been one to spend beyond her means, and he doubted that had changed about her.

He studied the people they passed as they walked, without staring, but trying to get a sense of what was being worn now. At the mention of his old shirt, he peered over at her. "You sound disappointed. Do you not like what I'm wearing now?"

"Well they have tailor's here but they have a wide choice of clothing that you can get in the shops. Less time. We just need to figure out a size for you."

It was one of the more confusing things. The clothing was in sizes and at first Marian had to try on various sizes to find out exactly what she could wear. Now that she knew it was easier to shop than before. At his question, her eyes shot back to him before she could feel the lightest blush gracing her features.

"Well it's just different to before. I do like it but I'm just...perhaps because the last time I saw you it was what you were wearing and..." she shrugged before smiling. "Of course I think what you're wearing now but I was just making a comparisson to your old clothing."

Since he had no idea what she meant by figuring out a size for him, but knew he would find out soon enough, Robin merely smiled at her. The smile turned to a grin when she tried to assure him about his current outfit. He leaned down slightly and murmured, "You're a terrible liar, Marian." His teasing mood shifting to the mischievous, he added, "I can take it off, if you like...?"

She tried her best not to close her eyes when he leaned closer, taking a little breath. She wasn't lying, she just bent the truth a little. She just prefered his old clothing. Then at his offer she laughed and moved to stand in front of him, free hand on his chest.

"You can get that idea out of your head," she said with a grin before tapping his chest lightly. "At least until you have something else to put on instead."

"You're still a spoilsport, I see," he grinned, letting her know that he did not mean it. He lifted her hand that he was holding, drawing her closer, and letting go once she was near enough for him to wrap his other arm around her waist. "But I suppose you're right."

He leaned down and kissed her, pulling back with a chuckle when a whistle sounded from nearby. "I'm sorry," he murmured, not sorry at all. "I could not help myself."

Marian was glad they had everything he would need for tonight and tomorrow morning. Soon, she was leading him to the building where they would live, a very strange thought. They would live together. Like they were meant to. It would take her a while to get use to that thought.

"So, this place we're going. There's a rather tall building that has been set up for people like us who have just been brought here from different points, different years. There will...probably be things in it that you're not familiar with but don't worry you'll get use to it eventually," she said with a smile before walking in. "I can show you around properly in the morning.

She walked up to where she got her room when she arrived, smiling before glancing at Robin. Perhaps they would both prefer this idea? She knew she would.

"I was wondering if you had any of the double bedrooms left? Just, if it's possible, if I could move out of my room and into one of those with him."

She smiled and gave her name and Robin's before watching as the woman moved to to get the key for them. "I thought you might prefer that arrangement to having a room yourself. There's two bedrooms, so we don't have to worry about that right now. I'll just need to take the things from my room along to ours."

He had to laugh when she said there were likely to be unfamiliar things where they were going. There was very little about this place that was familiar; and the building she finally led him to was no exception. He glanced around the large entry room, but did not get to take in much before Marian had stopped before what he guessed was a desk of sorts, and asked the woman seated there about moving out of her room and into a shared one. Shared with him.

Her request surprised him, and he was about to ask her about it when she explained her thinking to him. She was not mistaken about his preference there, although she apparently was assigning a concern to him that he did not have. "Who's worried about a number of bedrooms?" he asked lightly. Then, because he was starting to feel that he had pressed his luck thus far, added, "The last time we lived together, we shared a bedroom with four other people."

As much as he would rather not be serious right now, he was still very pleased that she had thought of this, and so soon after his arrival. He bent down and kissed her on the cheek, softly murmuring, "Thank you" in her ear.

He would have figured out having his own room here, but he was glad she wanted him to live with her.

She looked up at him at his question, her eyebrow raised a little. Then when he continued she nodded a little. But in her mind, camp was different. And they hadn't shared a bunk, she had found herself in the bunk that had been used by Allan before. Well...in most cases anyway. Occasionally she would fall asleep in his arms and wake up still in his warm embrace with Much giving them suspicious looks.

"But that was at camp. This...well for now this is our home."

She couldn't stop that little grin from spreading across her features. Their home. Their own home to live in with each other. It was something she always wanted and it seemed she would get it, even if they weren't married yet and it wasn't Locksley. But it was their's. That was all that mattered.

Her smile only got wider when he kissed her cheek, shaking her head at his thanks. She should thank him for not disagreeing with the idea. She quite liked the thought of being close to him. Marian smiled when the key was past over, along with one of the amulets she had asked for. Ah, she had forgotten to explain that to him.

"These are meant to protect us from being...possessed by those demon things everyone is worried about. They say it's for our own good we wear one," she said before pulling her own out to show she had one too.

lthough it was not a surprise, it still stung a little that she had apparently never seen the outlaws' camp as her home. Will's ingenious work had afforded the gang the closest thing to a home that they might ever have again, and was a a huge improvement over the constant moving about they had done the year prior to its construction.

But it was a far cry from either Marian's own home, or Nottingham Castle. As different as it was from the buildings they had known before, it was closer to what she was used to than his forest dwelling.

And anyway, her smile was infectious, and he shoved the thoughts aside, focusing as always on the matter at hand. At least, in this case, the matter at hand was an entirely pleasant one.

Accepting the amulet from her, Robin nodded. "There was mention of these on the computer." It still seemed rather absurd, but it could not hurt to put the thing on. As he did, it tangled with the string of his outlaw tag, and he had another recollection. "It also said the design could be tattooed on, I think; did you not want to go that route?" He winked at her.

She smiled as he took the amulet from her, laughing as it got tangled up. On automatic, she moved and reached up to untangle them before tucking both under his shirt. It was only when she stepped back she realised exactly what she had done. She couldn't help it, it was her reaction to him. Anything that may annoy him or anything that had to be fixed she wanted to fix it.

But then he was asking about the tattoo version and she laughed at his question. She had heard that tattoo's could hurt and had no desire to go through unnessecary pain.

"I see no need to add something to my skin when I can get the exact thing to put around my neck."

She didn't mind just wearing it and wouldn't complain about it if it did keep her safe. Smiling at him, she gestured to the stairs before she walked to them.

"We can go to our room and put the bags in and have a look, then I'll need to move the things from my room."

It would take a while, but she had no problem with that.

He was used to helping clear up after meals, although Marian seemed surprised that he had done so. Probably it was just that she had gotten used to doing it herself since arriving here. But now, he would be helping, and not just with the dishes.

That was to say, as soon as he figured out how to do most of what she would need help with.

"I'm looking forward to it, actually. It's been awhile since I had the opportunity to do so."

He realized that she likely hadn't the faintest idea how appealing she looked, and all she was asking was that he sit with her. Smiling, he gestured for her to sit. "Ladies first."

"Well there's a lot to learn, so you have a lot to look forward to."

She laughed when he told her to go first, moving to sit against one of the arm rests, her legs tucked underneath her body. Sipping her wine, she raised her eyebrow as she pretended that she was getting fed up waiting.

"You'll be a lot more comfortable over here than standing there," she said, grinning slightly before she looked away, sipping her wine again.

If she had looked inviting a moment ago, she was absolutely enticing now. He wished she had not seated herself sideways like that, as it would have been nice to have an arm around her. Without that option, he sat down, also turned so that he could face her, one arm propped along the back of the couch, resting his wineglass on his knee with his other hand. He had a brief moment of amusement at the words that he had picked up just in the last few minutes.

"So." He grinned at her. "How close is our legend to reality?" It was still so absurd to think about people knowing of them so far into the future, but it was also rather nice to know that their work had not been forgotten.

Running her hand along the back of the couch, she soon found his hand as her fingers laced with his, resting them gently. It was nice to have him sitting so close to her, but she still needed that touch. At his grin, one of her own blossomed across her face. That was until he questioned her.

"Legend?"

He scooted a little closer when she laced their fingers together, to make it more comfortable. This was nice; he could not remember the last time they had had a chance to just sit together and talk. This seemed a safe subject, too, because he suspected the legends were off, if she was not aware of-- of her death.

His heart squeezed at the thought, and he inched just a bit closer.

But she seemed confused by what was a fairly straightforward question. "Yes, our legend." Nodding toward the stack of books which sat on the end of the table in front of them, he added with a laugh, "I know that's not right."

Some quick talk had gotten him out of explaining how nicely her Nightwatchman garb had fit, and they had spent a comfortable evening just talking. Robin had told her a bit about what had been happening at home, skimming over the parts of the tale that he would rather not revisit (and being forced to admit some of them, anyway). Marian had told him of some of the people she had met, and much of what she had learned.

"So, Vaizey runs down and pulls the trigger, not realizing they've escaped," he laughed. When Marian did not reply, he glanced down.

They had spent a rather long time just talking, saying whatever came to mind that they wanted the other to know. Marian had to admit, she wished things had been like this all the time back in Nottingham, just like it had been when they were growing up. They could talk about anything and not worry about a thing.

Marian had long forgotten the wine, her glass being placed on the table as she curled up against him. Soon, his voice was soothing her and that, mixed with the wine and being exhausted from the day she had, had her settled off to sleep.

She was asleep, warm and sweet as she rested on his shoulder.

He could not recall the last time he had been this content. Maybe he never had been. For awhile, he simply let his mind wander, enjoying this peaceful moment. But, it was not long before he felt himself about to drift off-- the first time in a long time that sleep came so easily to him,-- so he got to his feet, carefully lifting her as he did. He carried her into her bedchamber, and was assailed without warning by the memory of the last time he had carried her so... only then, she had not been rosy and warm; instead, she had been pale and cold--

No. He nearly said it aloud, glad that he caught himself in time, so as not to wake her.

Then he realized that that had not been the last time he carried her. When they first got to this apartment, he had carried her across the threshold.

It did not instantly make him feel better, but it helped ease the hurt.

After seeing that she was tucked in (and breathing and real), Robin turned to go to his own bed.

She murmured slightly when she felt movement, curling up against the warmth and trying to drift off again. She felt so calm and content and wanted to stay wrapped up in this warmth forever. But soon she felt something soft and not as warm beneath her and she let her eyes flutter open, just in time to see Robin retreating. Pushing herself up to lean on her elbows, she looked at him with sleepy eyes.

"Robin?"

She reached for his hand, forcing herself to stay awake for a little longer. She wanted that warmth, and she wanted to wake up knowing that she hadn't imagined his presence here.

"Stay with me."

When Marian briefly lived in the outlaw camp, there had been a few nights where she had needed comfort due to the grief over her father, or he had awoken from yet another nightmare of the Crusades, or they had simply stayed up too late talking quietly, and they had fallen asleep in one another's arms. (And had woken up to suspicious glances from Much.)

He was rather glad that tonight seemed to be another such night; he knew he would sleep easier with her resting against him, where he could wake up and reassure himself that she was truly there.

"You do not have to ask me twice," he answered softly, taking her hand and kissing it before sliding into the bed-- a much more generous space than their camp bunks-- and gathering her against him.

Just before drifting off, he recalled the pajamas they had purchased earlier; however, after sleeping in his regular clothing for so long, it did not bother him to do it again. She would not be so used to it, but she did not seem to mind.

Kissing the top of her head where it rested on his shoulder, he let sleep claim him.
