He had only half-believed that she would be waiting for him when he passed, his faith having been sorely tested the last several years. But despite his joy at finding that she was here, the manner in which it was occurring had him confused.
She had smiled at first, but now appeared concerned, possibly even bordering on frightened, as she knelt in front of him. His eyes drifted shut as she touched him, never having expected to experience that again; with the sensation, every worry he had temporarily dropped away. However, he could not ignore that something was wrong, was upsetting Marian, and he met her beloved gaze.
His fingers shook as he brushed them lightly over her hair. "You are even more beautiful than I remembered." As he brought his hands to her face, he could not hold back a smile. "I've missed you."
