Rikki Chadwick is no ordinary girl ([info]justaddh2o) wrote in [info]wariscoming,

WHO: Rikki Chadwick and someone about to become Rikki's new bff. No rly cuz she will kick your butt if you tell anybody what you see.
WHAT: Trying to blow off some steam
WHERE: The complex pool
WHEN: Early evening
STATUS: In progress
RATING: TBD but probably PG at most

Anna had mentioned that there was a pool. Well...it wasn't the Pacific, but it'd have to do, she supposed. If there was one way that Rikki had become accustomed to blowing off steam and de-stressing, it was swimming. Well, and moping in the Moon Pool, but that was a no-go here, so she'd have to deal with what she had available to her. If she was in a whole new universe, like other people were saying, maybe the magic didn't even work. Maybe she'd go back to being a normal girl.

Her new found — however awkwardly canine — friend had taken her back to the complex of apparently misfit toys and she'd gotten herself a room and an amulet. That ought to appease the rest of them. She'd even started filtering her posts.

Slipping out of her room and down the hall to the elevator, Rikki found herself wondering who some of her neighbors were. Specifically, were any of them cool? The thought only lasted as long as it took for the lift to open and take her to her destination. There was an entire floor that was just a giant swimming pool. Anna hadn't mentioned the massive sizeof it; it was a pleasant surprise. Still no ocean, but at least it would give her space.

Looking over her shoulder to make sure no one was around, Rikki squatted at the edge of the pool and took a deep breath, dipping a finger into the water. "One. Two. Three," she counted as she got back to her feet. "Four. Five. Six." If nothing happened, she'd be a little disappointed, she realized. "Seven. Eight. Nine..."

As she opened her mouth to hit 'ten,' she felt the change. For a second, she wobbled on the pool deck, pinwheeling her arms to keep from falling in the wrong direction. It was basically impossible, though, to stay upright when her legs turned into a tail and Rikki tumbled into the pool, letting herself sink to the bottom where she rolled over and looked up through the water to the ceiling.

For a moment, she didn't move. She just laid at the bottom of the pool wishing that there was sand there instead of concrete. This was going to take some getting used to. Finally, though, she moved, propelling herself toward the other end of the pool and then back again. For the first time since getting here, Rikki felt some semblance of freedom again. Without really considering the consequence, she used her super speed and zipped to the opposite end of the pool again and flip turned to head back. The lap was completed when she misjudged the length of the pool because of all the bubbles, and slowed down a little too late, smacking her head on the side of the pool.

Surfacing, Rikki grimaced and pulled herself up a little, arms crossed beneath herself on the edge of the pool. "Ugh...asking strangers to teleport doesn't sound so bad after all..." she mumbled, frowning.

Galen had been growing more and more bored as time went on since coming here. He did enjoy learning more about Jacen's way of thinking and thought of the other man as a friend. But still. There were only so many times one could duel, meditate, and wander the dark part of Lawrence before growing bored of it all. No one here, not even the criminals, presented a challenge. Yes that Moriarty guy might but Galen didn't see him as a threat. Nor did he see the Molokov guy as one.

So once more Galen began wandering the halls and floors of the complex, not really looking for anything in particular. Though as he neared the level of the pool, he could hear movement. His curiosity piqued, he pushed the door to the pool open and looked around just in time to see a rather attractive blonde girl come up out of the pool part way, holding her head and mumbling something. Years of training to read human type lips allowed him to catch what she said. Now he was very intrigued.

He cleared his throat to catch her attention after letting the door close quietly behind him. He walked further in, his booted feet thudding some on the tile. In spite of enjoying the feel of wearing the robes Kota had given him, Galen had decided wearing native clothing would be better. So with the boots he wore a pair of faded jeans and a plain white T-shirt that covered only the scars on his torso and not really much on his arms. From his belt hung his lightsaber in its usual spot.

At the sound of a throat being cleared, Rikki's head snapped up and her eyes widened as she pushed her tail down to hang straight down beneath her. Maybe he wouldn't see. One of her hands came out from under her chin as she lifted herself a bit more so free it up. Thinking quickly and dropping it down below the side of the pool, she closed it into a fist, causing steam to rise up off the water, fogging whatever view he might've had.

"Way to let in the cold air," she complained in an attempt to divert his attention. It could've been a heated pool, right? Maybe he hadn't ever been in here and she'd get lucky. "You always creep up on people like that, or just when it's half naked women in pools?"

"My apologies," the former Apprentice said, stopping a few feet from her. Something about her didn't make him think she was fully human. Especially with how steam was coming up out of the pool. But his attention was pulled away by a question and he looked at her. She deserved the truth after all. Why sugarcoat things in a war?

"No one's complained so far. Then again, they've never gotten the chance too." Spotting a chair he walked over to it and sat down. "In my reality, I was an assassin for Vader. Forged to be his weapon against his enemies. It took time but I saw the truth and was about to be killed by the Emperor as the Rebels escaped when the Seal brought me here."

She did deserve somewhat of a full explination. "And, you're the first half naked woman I've seen. Let alone in a pool."

Oh...oh, no. He was making himself comfortable. That meant he was going to stay there for a while. Rikki sighed and watched him as he moved to sit down in the chair. "Vader? Like Darth Vader, like Star Wars? Like, Luke, I am your father, Vader?" she asked, arching her eyebrows. As soon as she asked, she regretted it. Keeping him talking was going to keep him sitting, which was going to keep her in the pool, hanging there and not able to move about. Poor decision on her part, she realized a little too late.

Although, since he was sitting, Rikki guessed he wouldn't be able to see her tail if she kept it pushed up against the side of the pool beneath her. At least, not from the angle. So, she opened her hand again and brought her arm back up under herself. The steam started to dissipate, however slowly.

"That's really unfortunate for you," she replied wryly at his response of having never seen a half naked woman. Then, she smirked a little. "You should get out more."

"That's the one. Had a chance to kill him but I showed him mercy. Probably is what saved the Rebel Leaders from the Emperor but still. The man killed my father, raised me to be a killer, then betrayed me like he always intended. He deserved to die."

He noticed her hand come up and the steam starting to fade. Interesting. Though her comments made him grin a little. "An idiot would think that an invite to join you in the pool." A small, knowing smirk formed on his face. "But, you're clearly hiding something and your earlier words of needing a teleporter for something... You are definitely hiding something you don't want anyone to know about."

He looked at her, his eyes growing soft and full of personal knowledge. "Keeping secrets, especially here, could get you killed."

Rikki just stared back at the man. She'd never seen Star Wars, but was familiar enough with the classic references, like the one she'd already used. "...kay..." she said slowly, drawing out the word to illustrate her confusion in trying to follow what he'd been saying. Lewis really would've done better in this place than she seemed to be so far...

At his comment, Rikki gave a facial shrug. "Good thing you're not an idiot then, because it wasn't," she replied. "And yeah. I am. My lady bits," she replied casually. Hey, it worked with Lewis before Cleo had ratted them all out to him. "As for the teleporter, eh...I'm from Australia. I miss the ocean. A friend of mine said that there were teleporters around here who might be able to take me there once in a while, is all," she added nonchalantly.

Though, his final statement made her self-satisfied smirk fall away into a suspicious frown. "Is that a threat or an observation?" she asked, setting her jaw.

Galen saw her reaction and knew for certain now something was being hidden. "Personal experience," he corrected. "Where I'm from in my world, the Rebel Alliance was barely a thought. Vader ordered me, after trying to kill me, to assemble an army of dissidents against the Emperor. When my pilot Juno," a brief flash of sorrow flashed across his face at her memory, "found out I was still talking to the man who had tried to kill me and imprisoned her, she was pissed. And keeping Vader secret nearly led to the Alliance never happening."

He shrugged. "But you are entitled to your secret, whatever it is. But there are those who might sense you not being fully human Miss. Though getting the steam to rise from the pool was a neat trick. I doubt I could do that." It was clear from his voice that he was impressed with her.

As he spoke, Rikki watched him carefully. Was he a threat? She probably should've asked Anna to come with her, after all. At least Anna was a werewolf; she probably wouldn't have told. But Rikki was mostly a loner. She didn't like to be around people. She wouldn't have even stayed friends with Emma, Bella, and Cleo except that they shared her secret and keeping it would've been awfully lonely. It was awfully lonely, she realized.

"That is the weirdest thing anyone has ever said to me," she said, sticking with her confused cover. "Do I look inhuman? And it's called cold air hitting heated swimming pool. The same sort of thing happens when you take the lid off of a cup of coffee on a cool day," she defended. Lewis would've been able to get this guy to lay off with all his science blabber, but Rikki wasn't as smart as Lewis was and she knew it. "And I'm Rikki, by the way," she added, wrinkling her nose at being called 'Miss.' It sounded too proper and stuck up.

She had noticed the tone in his voice change, though. Like he was...impressed by his belief that she'd made the steam. She wondered if that was how Lewis's bimbo doctor friend had sounded when she talked to Lewis about the toenail clipping of Cleo's that he'd stupidly left under the microscope in her lab. The one that had mutated its cells when the doctor had added water to it. "What if I could, though? Make the steam without you opening doors and letting in chilly air?" she challenged.

"I'm Galen," he said. "And it may be weird to you but it's something you'll get use to here. We have vampires, superheroes, Jedi, witches, and demons running around here. Most of us look human all the time." He shrugged some. "And I say if you could do that, it'd be interesting but I'd not tell anyone unless you wanted me to." He leaned forward a little. "I'm good at keeping secrets Rikki. I was a secret my whole life, had to rely on stealth to survive."

He eased back. "I'm not going to go running to the papers and saying there's supernatural people here," he added, deciding to alleviate her fears that someone might sell her out to science. "I'd be one of the people they'd lock up. Or try to." He outstretched his hand and lifted two fingers, a small globe of water rising up and moved towards him. "We're all different here Rikki." He smiled some and let the water stream around his hand.

Extending his hand, he let it fall back into the pool. "You aren't the only one who's different."

Rikki took a deep breath and listened. She wasn't ready. She hadn't been ready to tell anyone. Part of her had been hoping that it wouldn't even be an issue in whatever world this was. She stared back at him in uncertain silence as he spoke. Was it a trap to lure her into comfort?

But, as he went on, Galen leaned forward and stretched a hand out. She watched with wide eyes as he pulled an orb of water out of the pool. Her jaw went slack. That was how Cleo drank water. Orbing it up out of the cup and popping it into her mouth. That way, she didn't spill it. The way it ribboned around his hand reminded her of the Tentacle of which the girls had been so afraid before they'd found out it was there to help them.

As the globe fell back into the pool, Rikki squinted against the small splash. She'd met Superman, Batman, a werewolf, and a bunch of Harry Potter characters. This guy said he was a Star Wars Jedi and he had Cleo's control over water in its liquid form.

Rikki shifted herself again, finding the tail much too heavy to pull herself out of the water. In the Moon Pool, she was usually able to claw her way out because of the angle. This one was a ninety degree one. Even flipping her tail beneath herself to try and propel herself upward didn't help enough. She was stuck. If she wanted to get out of the pool, she was going to have to ask for help, she realized, and she didn't have her phone or computer with her to ask for Anna. "Swear you won't tell anybody," she said in a low, serious voice. "Ever. It's my secret and it's not for you to share," she reminded him, extending a hand toward him. "I can't get out by myself. I didn't think of that when I got in," she admitted.

Galen got up as she extended a hand towards him. "I give my word as Galen Marek, Force user, that I will not betray your secret," he promised her. He knelt down and noticed the distinct lack of legs. Interesting. But that mattered little to him at the moment. Grasping her hand, he pulled her up, using a bit of the Force to help make her getting out of the pool easier. Once he was certain she was out, he turned his attention to the door and held his other hand out at it.

A click sounded and he looked down at her. "Hope you don't mind a locked door. I doubt you'd want others to see this. As you said, it is a secret and yours to share when you wish," he said. He stood and took a few steps back to give her some space that she might need or if she wanted it. He had to admit, she was rather pretty. The tail just added some exoticness to it. But he was more focused on her face than her body at the moment.

This was going to suck, Rikki decided. Having to rely on a complete stranger the way she was used to relying on Lewis, Zane, and Will. Whatever it was he was saying about the Force, Rikki didn't understand the significance. "You better mean that," she said seriously as he pulled her out of the pool. She watched as he extended his hand again and heard the lock click and she gave him an impressed look.

"You'd be right," she agreed. Extending her own hand, she closed it slowly into a fist until smoke began to rise from the doorknob. She opened her hand again after that. "It's too hot to touch anyway," she added with a tiny, self-satisfied grin.

Rolling herself onto her back, Rikki propped herself up on one elbow, wincing a little at the discomfort on her elbow and in her abs. It was nothing she wasn't used to, by now, but it still wasn't the most comfortable position to have to be in. "Thank you," she added, putting an effort into making it sound sincere. Gratitude wasn't exactly Rikki's forte, but she did appreciate his help.

Sighing heavily, Rikki looked down at her tail. "I hate this part," she complained. "Kinda stings." At that, she held her free hand over her tail and closed it into a fist, wincing slightly as steam rose up, evaporating the water both off her tail and around her off the floor. A few minutes and a fog filled room later, she was dry and, in a spontaneous show of sparkling lights, Rikki's tail dissipated, morphing back into jean-clad legs. The mermaid top, as she'd come to call it, changed back into her t-shirt, and she got to her feet. "Shh, don't tell," she said with a tiny smirk.

Galen chuckled some at her words of don't tell. "There's no need to thank me for helping," he said. "I did sort of barge in on you. Then again, if I hadn't you might have been stuck in the pool until you figured a way to get out." He had no doubt that she would have too. Watching the water leave her skin though and normal clothes reappear was extremely interesting.

"I give my word I won't tell a soul or soulless things about what you are," he promised. "And I mean that." He gave a small grin. "Besides, I have a feeling you might find a way to burn me if I did say anything." He did his best to refrain from asking how she did that. Probably some sort of magic if he had to guess.

"Yeah, you did...but yeah, I probably would've been stuck there a while. Not that it would've mattered, except eventually I'd have gotten hungry," she joked, giving a shrug. Rikki stood up on tip-toe and stretched out her calves, dropping back down unceremoniously.

Giving another facial shrug that quickly slid into a smirk, Rikki shrugged again. "I mean...I could boil your blood, but I'm not that mean. ...although if you told, I might get that mean, I don't know. No one's ever told. My dad doesn't even know about it," she pointed out, crossing her arms over her chest. "So what brought you to the pool, anyway? I never did get to finish my swim," she muttered, giving a playful pout.

Maybe this place wasn't so bad. So long as it didn't rain at some inopportune time, Rikki would get used to it easily enough, she supposed. And well...now she had someone who knew about her and could help her out on full moons, maybe. Keep her away from the moonlight and away from water. "Question: you're not in any way affected by full moons, are you?"

"Boiled blood. Interesting," he chuckled some. At her question, he shrugged some. "It's...boring here. So I was wandering. Heard movement in the pool and got curious," he admitted. "Sorry about your swim though but to be fair you had hit your head." He smiled some.

At her question about full moons, he quirked a brow. Interesting question. She clearly wasn't a werewolf. Interesting that a mermaid was affected by the moon. "I'm not," he admitted. "Mind if I ask why?"

Wrinkling her nose, Rikki looked over her shoulder at the pool. "Yeah, well...I'm used to the ocean," she replied, looking back at him. "I can swim really fast...I misjudged the length of the pool. I was gonna get back to it," she protested. "But by then I was a little preoccupied trying to hide my tail, you see." Then she paused and moved a hand to her head, feeling that a small bump had risen there. "Stupid pool," she complained.

"Good. Because," Rikki said, distractedly opening and closing her fist, making the pool water boil and relax, "in the interest of not sharing the secret...I sometimes need someone to help me out when a full moon is coming. Blocking out the light...keeping me away from water. Things can get a little crazy for me," she replied with a shrug. "You know, you're taking this mermaid thing remarkably well..." she observed aloud.

Galen couldn't help the chuckle that escaped his throat at Rikki's commenting of the pool being stupid. Hearing her explain why she needed the help made him smile. Maybe he could be put to good use after all. "Water I could try to help with. The Force might let me create a shield around you to keep the water off. But I'd have to practice that. As for the moonlight, that will be a bit trickier but I might be able to think up something."

At her next comment he did laugh. Which felt odd to do given he had never laughed before. "I come from a world of aliens, spaceships, and laser swords. It's...not a huge deal to me," he admitted.

Rikki stared back at him incredulously as he replied, seemingly thinking out loud on ways that he could help her. "Um..." she said slowly, starting to smile. "Cardboard and duct tape for the windows...and just don't let me touch anything with water in it, no matter how much I want to," she explained. Then, she laughed. "Wow, you really like to over-complicate things, don't you, Galen?" she joked.

"Fair enough," she added in response to his reasoning for not being weirded out by the mermaid thing. "It's easier back home. Surrounded by ocean...if I get wet, I'm usually within a ten second sprint to a large body of water. That's how long I get. Ten seconds to tail," she clarified.

Looking over at the door, Rikki wondered whether the handle was still going to be too hot to touch. It probably was, she thought. "I think...I got us stuck in here, showboating like that. Sorry..." she said, looking sheepishly apologetic.

"Oh...right..." He smiled a bit sheepishly. "Sorry. I'm not much of a people person to be honest." He nodded. "So, block out the windows from moonlight if it's full and keep water from touching you or anything water related. I can do that."

He nodded some. "So, ten seconds and you get a tail." Galen shook his head some. "You didn't." He smiled warmly and waved his hand again, the door unlocking and opening slightly. "Stuck isn't a problem," he smiled.

Rikki smiled back and shrugged. "It's fine. It was kind of funny, actually," she admitted. Then, she nodded. "Yep, that's it. Not too hard, except when it is," she said, this time it being her turn to look sheepish. "The thing is, it calls me. The moon. It makes me want to look. It makes me want to get wet so I'll turn into a mermaid. So...fair warning, it'll be a challenge. And...you probably won't get it right the first couple of times. Lewis didn't. So, then you'll just have to run some damage control."

It was only fair to be honest with the guy if he was going to be her new partner in crime on the full moons. Lewis always had his hands full on a full moon. Although, to be fair, he'd had three mermaids to rein in; Galen would only have one. So maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

"Ten seconds on the dot," she confirmed, nodding. She looked over as he waved his hand and the door opened and then looked back at him, impressed. "Well that's handy," she laughed. "Thanks," she added.

Galen shrugged. "It's nice to be able to use my powers other than for killing and for selfish men's whims," he returned. "I don't think my reality or whatever you wish to call it has mermaids. So, I'm confused as to why the moon calls to you. I know it does to werewolves but I never thought it would affect...you know." He decided to be a bit ambiguous with the door open. So he waved his hand to shut it again. "I mean, you needn't tell me but since I'm going to help you, I'd like to understand all that I can so I can help you properly."

Damage control he could run if the minds were weak enough. He'd been practicing the Mind Trick for a while now on criminals and had gotten the hang of it rather quickly. But first, he needed to know, "What kind of damage control are we talking about? So I have a vague idea of what to expect in case you win on that front."

Rikki opened her mouth to respond and then closed it again as he closed the door, taking the moment to consider how best to word it so that she didn't sound like a crazy person.

"Well...in the interest of full disclosure? It's a long story but, the short of it is that the moon sort of has this magic kind of connection to Makko Island, back home, and I was there on a full moon, in the Moon Pool. Ever since, my friends and I have been mermaids. So, it's kind of connected, I guess? Mostly, it calls me to Makko, so maybe it won't be so bad since I'm so far away and can't get there, but...better safe than sorry. The day I got here was a full moon...I just hid out in an abandoned house with boarded up windows. I'd prefer not to do that again," she replied.

"See..." she started slowly, shifting her weight awkwardly and making a face. "That's the thing. ...I never know. It affects us differently all the time. Cleo turned into a Siren one time...Emma went all boy crazy. One full moon, Cleo and I got all kinds of silly and childish...and one time the three of us together nearly killed Lewis siccing a massive storm on him. ...that was a bad one..." she muttered, sounding apologetic even though Lewis wasn't there. "I burned everything I touched, one full moon, including my ex...I hadn't meant to but...yeah. I never know what it's going to do," she answered, frowning slightly.

He listened intently to what she said then ran it through his mind slowly, processing each fact she had given him. Full moons were unpredictable for her. She could be called away to a faraway island. Once he had everything she said memorized, he looked at her closely. He had some more questions now. Hopefully she had some idea to the answers of those question. If not, he'd manage. Being trained by Vader had drilled him to always be prepared. He still made slip-ups, but he always gave it his all.

"So it can do pretty much anything to affect you," he summarized. "Tell me more about this Siren being you might turn into." That sounded more like a threat to him than the other things she had told him about. Boy crazy he didn't see as a problem. Silly and childish, he could probably handle. Massive storm, he had survived worse. Fire, again he had endured worse. But he was unfamiliar with Sirens and wanted to hear if Rikki knew more on them.

Rikki had the grace to look sheepish. "Pretty much..." she agreed. It was easier when Lewis was around because he was one of those science geeks and he always had something up his sleeve to try and keep the moon from turning them into whatever the case may be that particular full moon.

In all honesty, Rikki hadn't known a lot about Sirens. It had happened to Cleo, not her, so she hadn't really bothered looking them up. "Um...not much? I know that Cleo, who normally couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, could suddenly sing and she had the most beautiful voice," she started, shifting her weight back onto her other foot. "I know that every guy in about a ten kilometer radius who could hear her was out in her front yard, clamoring for attention...and then, the full moon dropped the next day and she was back to normal. It wasn't that big a deal, really...?" she said, uncertainly. She knew that wasn't much help and she felt badly about it.

"Actually, if that happens, you'll be no help, I'm sure. Unless you've got some pretty sound blocking headphones. ...so let's hope it doesn't, shall we?"

Galen nodded some. He did have some time to prepare and research about these Sirens before the next full moon. The question was where to look for information on that. But he could think about that later. Hearing the bit about headphones, he chuckled a bit. "We'll have to see. Force users can sometimes see past illusions. Not sure if the audible is covered in that, but I'll see what I can find in the way of sound blocking headphones...whatever those are." Sometimes it was a handicap that he wasn't from Earth. He'd manage though. He always did.

WIth nothing further to ask her in regards to helping her out, Galen ran a hand through his short hair. "I guess I'll be on my way then," he said. "If you need anything though, my room number is 601." She showed him trust after all by telling him her secret. The least he could do would be to return the favor, even if it was just telling her his room number. He also pulled out a piece of paper and a pen from his pocket and scribbled down that phone number thing the smart communicator - no, the salesman had called it a smartphone - had for others to contact him. He held it out to her. "In case I'm not in the room. Like you noticed, I don't get out much." He gave a slightly sheepish smile.

For a second, Rikki looked confused. "You know..." she started, covering both of her ears lightly with slightly balled hands. "Headphones? Listen to music with them so no one else can hear?" It didn't really occur to her that someone wouldn't know what something as simple as a pair of headphones would be. "They make 'em to block sounds, too, to an extent, otherwise people like air traffic controllers would go deaf the first day at work or something," she finished.

Nodding, Rikki gave him a small smile and took the slip of paper. "An idiot would think that was an invitation," she joked, holding it up and waving it in her fingers a moment before pocketing it. "Thanks, Galen, I appreciate it. I'm in 804," she added. "I think I'm gonna stay in here a little longer, though. Closest thing to the ocean and all," she told him. "I'll see you 'round, yeah?"

Galen listened to her explanation of headphones and nodded some. "I think I got it," he said. He grinned at her words and then nodded when he heard her room number. 804. He would remember that. "Call if you need help again if you go back in the pool. And if you'd like, I can try to set up a field of sorts so no one bothers you if you want to go swimming again."

He shrugged. "I've never done anything like that before but I'd imagine it'd be similar to the mind trick. Suggest people move past here so you can swim in peace. If you want of course. But yeah, I'll see you around Rikki." He smiled some, pleased with himself that he had made another friend. At least an ally or something. He'd figure that out later.

With a small smile, Rikki nodded. "Will do," she replied, although she had no intention of it. In fact, she really had no intention of going back in the pool just yet. Mostly, she just wanted to sit there, beside the water. It wasn't the ocean, but it was as close to home as she was going to get here, it seemed. "That's okay, I'll just heat up the doorknob if I change my mind, but I don't think I'll stay too long. Thanks anyway," she added. She gave him another smile and nodded, giving him a small wave. "Later."
