Wrinkling her nose, Rikki looked over her shoulder at the pool. "Yeah, well...I'm used to the ocean," she replied, looking back at him. "I can swim really fast...I misjudged the length of the pool. I was gonna get back to it," she protested. "But by then I was a little preoccupied trying to hide my tail, you see." Then she paused and moved a hand to her head, feeling that a small bump had risen there. "Stupid pool," she complained.
"Good. Because," Rikki said, distractedly opening and closing her fist, making the pool water boil and relax, "in the interest of not sharing the secret...I sometimes need someone to help me out when a full moon is coming. Blocking out the light...keeping me away from water. Things can get a little crazy for me," she replied with a shrug. "You know, you're taking this mermaid thing remarkably well..." she observed aloud.
