Day Seventeen | Experiment
Who: Shannon Rutherford, Amatarasu, Ianto Jones, Merope Gaunt, L. Lawliet, Kim Boggs, Sarah Jane Smith, Remy LeBeau, Church, Lexie Grey [no enforced posting order]
What: Experiment time!
Where: An undisclosed location
When: Day 17 7:00am - close of day seventeen
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

Each character will awaken in a room with another character and will be missing their journals. Each will have their own very comfortable twin bed. The Room is comfortably accommodated and should the subject look into the closets of bureau they will find clothing appropriate to their sense of style and size. Each room has it's own bathroom complete with toilet, tub and shower. Each bathroom is stocked with products the character would be familiar with.

The doors to the five bedrooms all open into a large common area which includes a television (no cable; just a large collection of assorted movies and an X-Box with an assortment of games); a bookcase with various titles and genres; a large sectional sofa; a dining table; and a large kitchen. The Kitchen will have an induction cooktop stove; a large refrigerator; various appliances and copious amounts of fresh foods. The style of this room is contemporary but comfortable. The floors are carpeted and everything is modern.

Clearly, this room is intended to make the subjects comfortable. Conspicuously absent: Windows.

There is an area which is clearly a door; however, it has no handle from the inside. Over this door is a large blue sign "Departure Point." A sign on the door indicates the following.

"Thank you for your participation here at Vas Captio. This area is intended for your use and comfort. Please be mindful to be clean and courteous as this room will be occupied shortly after you leave. Further instructions as to your departure will be included as they become more final. Thank you for your patience."

Sarah Jane rolled over in her bed, and absently grabbed for the sheet to pull it farther up toward her chin. Then, her half-awake brain caught up with what she was doing, and her eyes flew open. Bed. Sheet. Not the hard floor of the museum. A pillow under her head rather than her jacket. Had she...no, she realized as the room came into focus. She wasn't home. She was in a room, tucked snugly in bed. Across from her, she could see a young man in an identical bed.

Someone was playing a cruel joke. They had to be. This couldn't all be real, could it?

Slowly, Sarah Jane slid out of bed, her body protesting the movement. It liked the comfort and wanted to catch a proper nap while it could. Her mind, however, wanted to get a feel for the place, know what she'd ended up in. She opened the first door she found near her bed, and her eyes widened as she found a closet full of clothing that wouldn't look out of place in her own. She looked around, feeling slightly guilty for what she was about to do, then pulled a fresh blouse and pair of jeans out and lay them on the bed. The dresser nearby held clothing of a more delicate nature, also looking to be her size. She sighed at the thought of clean clothing against her skin. After days in the same outfit, she was more than ready for a change.

The second door was an even more welcoming sight: a proper bathroom, fully stocked, towels at the ready. She glanced back at the young man, wondering if she should wake him up before she slipped in for a quick shower. It would be only polite, after all. Perhaps he had more urgent need of it than she did?

Sarah walked around to the other side of her bed and sat down on it, facing the young man. "Hey," she said quietly. "Good morning." At least, Sarah Jane assumed it was morning. There were no windows in the room, so it was difficult to tell.

L dreamed very seldom, and when he did, he usually woke up too quickly to remember the thoughts and images involved. Lately, lying down to sleep had been uncomfortable at best, and so the young man was more sleep-deprived than usual... but in a real bed, he'd gotten an incredibly good night's sleep. And he'd dreamed. He thought that Jenny had been in it, but that didn't make much sense, since he had seen life through the eyes of a sixteen-year-old girl named Kyoko and the only other person in the dream had been a Japanese boy. They went to the same high school. It was August, 1945. They loved each other. They wanted to prove it, but just as the pain was starting to turn into pleasure, there had been a flash, and a terrible prickling burning in Kyoko's eyes, and warmth, and death so sudden that neither teenager had realized it. It was a vivid dream, and L woke up trembling.

A motherly woman was sitting on the edge of his bed. He took a moment to note that it was, in fact, a bed. The room was well-furnished, well-lit, and very comfortable. He glanced around uncertainly before returning his gaze to the woman. He thought he had seen her before, after the earthquake. She was older than most of the people in Vas, and had a gentle way about her that put the skittish detective immediately at ease despite his natural paranoia. Her polite greeting was both familiar and foreign; how long had it been since "good morning" had been his first thought on waking? Nowadays, it tended to be more along the lines of "where am I, and who died last night."

"Um... good morning... either the liquor store has been refinished rather nicely, or this is an experiment... what's going on, where are the others...?"

Sarah Jane offered the young man a sad smile. "My guess would be experiment," she said. "Although, if it is, it's rather different than I expected." Indeed, she hadn't been a victim of any experiment that she could remember. If she'd been subjected to anything during the time she couldn't account for, well, it was probably better she didn't remember it.

"I've only just woken up myself," she continued, listening to the young man's questions. "Haven't left the room yet. But, there's clean clothing in the closet and the dresser, and there's a proper bathroom just through there," she turned and pointed toward the partially open door behind her. "That's about as far as I've explored." She offered the young man her hand. "Sarah Jane Smith. It's nice to meet you." Well, as nice as it could be, given they were both prisoners, but Sarah Jane always enjoyed meeting new people.

When Shannon awoke, she kept her eyes closed, rolling onto her previously injured side and sighed. She'd been having a dream that she was back on the Island; Sayid had been there. And Boone had still been alive. All that she wanted was to be able to fall back into the dream, because even if she'd still been on Craphole Island, it had been better than the Glass Cage.

Unable to sink back into slumber, Shannon opened her eyes and froze. She was no longer in the abandoned church and she was no longer alone. While she'd fallen asleep in a pew, she awoke in a bed and looked across the room not at the altar and crucifix, but at a thin blonde girl on another bed.

Shannon sat up quickly and patted herself down. Where the hell was her journal?! If she didn't check in with Sam as promised, he'd either panic, be angry, or maybe both. "Hey," she said aloud trying to rouse the other woman as she swung her legs around the side of the bed and rubbed her eyes. "You awake?" she asked, even though it was clear that she wasn't.

Kim heard someone's voice through her sleep-induced haze and began to stretch slowly on the bed as she came awake. She had been having a lovely dream--she had been eating dinner with her family, and Edward had been there, but he had had hands, with long delicate fingers, and no trouble picking up the knife and fork, and everyone had been so happy...

wait a moment. Bed? BED? Kim snapped fully awake, sitting upright too quickly and holding her head as she felt the rush of blood. "Ow." Then she looked down at the plush bed that had been provided to her. Not her bed, though, so this meant she was still in the glass prison. Then she took inventory of the room, and the other woman on the other bed, doing a quick scan, her brain working overtime as it tried to shift gears while she was still half-asleep.

"Well. This is quite the unexpected upgrade," Kim commented a bit fuzzily, running a hand through her hair automatically. "Guess we've been model prisoners or something." Her mind pointed out, quite aptly, that the 'or something', knowing this place, was likely around the corner, and likely unpleasant. Still, for right now, she was in a room with a bed--and the room even had a door, so there was an escape...and if she was being monitored, she couldn't see the cameras yet. All in all, not a bad, if disorienting, way to wake up.

Bedroom Three: Merope Gaunt | Church
[info]ex_heathens_444

It wasn’t as hard for someone who had a short term amnesia problem to wake up in a room he didn’t recognize – in fact, when Church rolled over and found himself hanging one arm over the edge of a bed, he was quite pleased. It sure beat the hard, cheap carpeted floor of the thrift store, where he had been waking up… where he’d woken up the previous morning, with the body of that woman pressed up against him. He’d gotten blood all over himself, and he was still trying to figure out why he cared so much that she was dead. She’d been a huge, royal bitch, after all.

But none of that mattered right now. No, what mattered was that as he rolled out of bed, there was another woman in the room with him but he didn’t pay her much mind, only glanced around before he stretched out and moved over to pull open the closet door. …well. Now this was more like it! This was a much better selection of clothing that the thrift store had. Church was dropping the jeans he was wearing and pulling off the shirt he had on, stepping out of his boxer briefs so that for a short moment, he stood completely nude in the doorway of the closet. And if Merope were to wake and see that – well, she’d certainly be impressed, because Leonard Church had been in the physical condition of an Olympiad since he’d been fourteen years old. It only took a moment for Church to pull on a black set of boxer briefs, though, then a long set of black BDU’s and a black ribbed tank top to go with it. Casual military wear. He looked through the closet another moment before he was tugging out a light blue shirt, cocking his head to the side as he looked it over, turning it to look at the back. His brows lifted some, reaching out to run his fingers over the white lettering there. It said “CHURCH” across the top, like an athletic uniform, and underneath that name was the number “13” in larger white numbers. He stared at it a moment before deciding that he quite liked this shirt, and he was pulling it on over the top of his head and smirking at the front of it, which said “BLUE ARMY” in smaller white letters across his chest.

He liked this!

One last glance was given to Merope on the bed before Church was tugging on black socks and a convenient pair of military boots, lacing them up tightly and then turning to head for the door. Time to check out this new place.. he loved it already, though.

Merope was breathing more easily, not stressed as she felt a rather comforting bed. Although, when she opened her slightly blurry eyes to find a man sitting there, she rolled over completely to find him. The small girl had a rather difficult day yesterday and now she was some place different all together? A part of her was fearful, but she managed to sit up and become curious.

When her eyes woke up, she saw better, warmer clothing for someone who was always cold. Becoming a little lazy, she shifted off the bed and stared at him,"..W-Who are you?" She muttered to him.

The first thing Ianto was aware of when he woke was that he wasn't where he was supposed to be. It was more a gut feeling than anything based on fact, but still, by now he's learned to trust his instincts. So when he woke, he kept his eyes closed and listened carefully but could only hear the sounds of another person breathing quietly.

So he sat up and opened his eyes.

Sheets. A soft bed. A rather bland looking hotel room. And a strange woman asleep in another bed.

Ah. One of those days then, was it? Carefully, Ianto slipped to his feet and began checking out doors, not wanting to wake the lady just yet. They were all low on rest and she deserved to get as much as possible. What he saw nearly made him weep. Suits, in just his size and a working bathroom. After checking for the usual bugs, Ianto shrugged and figured that the people who ran this thing have seen far more than him showering (give that he and Jack both finally had a stock of slick) and went to wash and groom. After that? Getting out of here. He was certain something miserable must be happening to the people not here.

Unless they were all here, stashed in bedrooms? There was something to hope for. After cleaning himself, shaving and tidying his hair, after donning the suit and knotting his tie (and feeling a thousand percent better), Ianto went and sat on the other woman's bed to touch at her shoulder lightly.

"Hey," he said softly. "Time to wake up."

Remy awoke with a soft groan. Oh, his head hurt. That stupid whateveritwas that they used on him last time had given him a head ache then.. and it was giving him a headache now. Slowly, his eyes opened, and he realized that he was in a room.. a bedroom. On a bed. A warm bed.. and a woman in the other bed. He sat up slowly and rubbed at his head as his eyes focused on her.. that was the doctor lady. What was her name again...? Maxie? Jackie? Um.. OH! Lexie. Right. Something sparkly caught his attention out of the corner of his eye and he looked down at it, then slowly lifted up the tiara that was laying on the bed next to him. Oh yeah. He'd just been with Jenny and she'd had these tiaras and.. well. They'd been shiny! The thief couldn't let it just.. sit in that room. And she had plenty of them. Gloved fingers wrapped around the rhinestone covered tiara (which he'd been holding onto since he'd found it) and he was carefully climbing from the bed and heading for the door, but he paused when he saw the closet partially open, and the clothes in it.. oh, that's exactly what he wanted. New clothes. And with a shove, the door was opened and he let out a breath at the outfits within.

It took only a few seconds for him to pick out a really fantastic pair of comfortable-looking jeans, a worn, soft t-shirt, and a long-sleeve t-shirt to go beneath it. He would, of course, keep the Doctor's jacket, and leave the trench-coat hanging in the closet instead of taking it. So, with those clothes, he was slowly (quietly) making his way out of the bedroom and into common room, closing the door behind him.

That was when he noticed the open bathroom door and nearly groaned, quickly making his way over to it. A few moments later, hot water was running and the Cajun was closing the door behind him and stripping down.

This. Was. Awesome.

Lexie felt like a rock. She felt like a rock snuggled deep down into soft earth that clung to her and said, oh, you're meant to be right here, stay fora while. So, she did stay for a while. She stayed until she realized that the soft, warm dirt she was imagining was actually more like soft, warm sheets. Clean smelling sheets. With a heavy blanket. On a bed. A soft bed. A real bed.

Blinking she pushed open her eyes and realized she was in a room that was not 'her' room. She was in a room lit by an incandescent lamp and she could hear a shower. An honest to goodness shower. She could hear someone moving around behind that door and that kind of scared her. Still, with a brave face she pushed out of the bed and rapped on the bathroom door.

"H-H-Hello? Who's there?" She called. She started to shake a little like a leaf. Who knew what was going to be behind that door. Could be anyone or anything ebcause this place just kept getting more and more dangerous.

Shannon had spent most of her day laying in the bed in her room, staring at the wall, the ceiling, or the inside of her closed eyelids. She couldn't sleep, didn't want to think, and couldn't pull herself out of bed. The guilt surrounding the deaths of those around her that she cared so much for was weighing on her, sinking her into a depression she hadn't felt in what seemed like ages. Boone had been the last time she'd felt so heavy and broken and even though it had only been three weeks ago, give or take, it felt like years.

When she finally ventured out of the bedroom, she saw the couch and plopped down on it. The fact that there were no windows in the bedroom was not made any better by the fact that there were also none in the main room. She curled up in the corner of the couch and hugged her knees. Would the feeling ever lift without something horrible happening to distract her?

Shouldn't have ever left Sam. Shouldn't have bothered Dean. Shouldn't have made friends or let things go past the buddy system relationship. I...shouldn't have let myself care about anyone here... she thought, looking down and staring at nothing in particular.

While the day had been easy enough for them (even if it did feel a bit like they were stuck on Big Brother), Ianto was certain that the others, still in the town, more than likely believed that something terrible was happening to them. More than anything, he wanted to get back and reassure several people. Wandering around the odd set of rooms, Ianto was led to believe that Shannon might want the same. She looked, well, disheartened.

Carefully, he sat down next to her and gently bumped her shoulder. "Penny for your thoughts?" he asked quietly.

The TV was large. The couch was comfortable. And there was the coolest Nintendo that he'd ever seen hooked up to that large television. It didn't have any of the normal games, though.. but really? It didn't matter. New games were welcome, and Remy had settled down after turning on the black box with the circle, and grabbing his controller. The other controller was tossed into the other man's lap. Because, of course he'd dragged Church into this. Remy didn't play games alone! Games were only fun if someone else played with you. And when the xBox turned on and the music came up, the Cajun whistled low.

The graphics were amazing, it was like it was real-life. That was just about the coolest thing he'd ever seen.. and the music that came with the game was nice. Halo 3, huh? Interesting. Was it about angels? Soon, the game was starting up, and Remy took a second to get used to the controller before turning his person to face the other person. Wow. "You an' alien, homme." And Remy LeBeau? Master Chief, of course!

Take that, Spartan.

When the remote fell into his lap, Church took a moment to turn it over before he glanced over at Remy and followed suit after him, holding down the button in the middle to turn it on before leaning back into the couch and turning blue eyes up to the large television screen in front of them. He’d used battle simulators before but they had been much more advanced than any of this.. he hadn’t ever used anything as primate that would use a remote that only used your fingers, like this, but he was sure that he could adjust. He couldn’t ever remember playing a video game in his life, so as they waited for the game to start up he glanced over to Gambit and rubbed his thumbs over the joysticks on the controller.

“What are we doing with this?” All you had to do was tell him he was going to be killing things, and he’d be happy to play, Gambit… but he might not get the chance to explain it, because the game was starting up and blue eyes turned back to the screen, falling onto the dark green armored character that had turned to face his on the right side of the screen, and his brows lifted before he dropped the controller and got to his feet, so that it tumbled forward out of his lap and landed on the carpeted floor.

“Did they just say Master Chief?” Demanded of the Cajun, though he didn’t look away from the television. Instead, he stepped forward to stand just in front of it, narrowing his eyes as he peered in at the character. That armor, while he couldn’t remember it in as advanced of a stage due to his memory loss, was sparking something in his mind and he could picture himself, as well as everyone else in his squad, suited up in that exact same thing. It’d triggered a memory, and Church definitely knew who Master Chief was…

“The fuck is this? Some kind of joke?”

The door didn't seem to bother anyone else, but it nagged at Ianto through most of the morning. After waiting to see if anything happened (aside from Remy's cooking, nothing had happened), Ianto stepped up to the door and began to run his fingers over it. He poked and prodded, hoping to find hinges or something, though he knew it was never ever that easy around here. He poked at the sign, trying to pry it up to see if there was anything underneathe. They were labrats, after all, and this was their maze. The door probably wasn't a door, he reasoned, but the next step in the maze. Maybe it was time to turn the corner in the corridor and step further into the experiment.

For all that he'd like to just blow it all up. If he could, he would have, even if it cost him his life. Just to make certain everyone else was safe and free and that this would never happen again. But, still, nothing was ever easy nor simple, here.

Kitchen: Gambit and OTA - Breakfast

Remy felt rather accomplished this morning. After scaring poor Lexie to death (oh, that had been fun, though he'd never actually had a woman react that way to him being naked before.. maybe he was losing his touch), the Cajun had gotten himself dressed in his nice, clean clothes, and had wandered out to the common room in his socks, pushed at the door, read over the writing, then took a few peeks around.. but it had been the kitchen that ultimately grabbed his attention. And so there he was, in the kitchen, fully dressed but without shoes (and still with damp hair), cooking up something that only he could call 'breakfast'. Why breakfast? Because he'd just woken up! Lord knew what time it actually was.

The smell would make it through the entire apartment. You all can thank TPTB for this wonderful treasure, because they'd made the ingredients appear, right there in the fridge. And the smell?

Oh. The smell.

There would be the distinct scent of bacon, but it was off, somehow. Also, the smell of eggs, and something strange that tinted it a shade thicker. He had fresh vegetables out and pancake batter. Oh, really, the ingredients left out on the counters looked good, it was just the smell.. the smell, was wrong. The smell was off. Just wait until he decided he wanted dinner. Breakfast wasn't really that bad.

And in lower (swampier) parts of the world, the Cajun was actually an amazing chef.

Not here.

Sausage and gravy pancakes were pushed onto a plate, the little bits of sausage sticking out of the pancakes like blueberries, before he was coating them in sausage gravy like it was home-made syrup. Following those pancakes was an omelet. It looked harmless enough, until you looked closer. Sausage, ham, tomato.. were those.. pieces of shrimp? No. Crayfish. And that, that brownish green? Those were frog legs. And on top of the omelet, he was smearing some horseradish, and throwing on some spices, just for flavoring. It was the bacon, next. But not just any bacon, caramelized bacon, covered in two full cups of brown sugar and cooked up to perfection. And last, but not least? Sausage puffs. Sour cream, lemon juice, ground sausage, green onions, flour, black pepper, and enough cheese to kill a goat.

Oh yes. Welcome to Louisiana, captives.

"Anyone wan' breakfas'?" The red-head shouted out towards the common room.

That wasn't amazing food. It was a horrible thing to do to food. It would have been better to toss it all out.

Ianto, clad in pinstripes and gaberdine, wrinkled his nose as he came into the kitchen to seek out coffee and possibly toast. Maybe a danish. What he found was a sight to make anyone weep and not in gratitude. Because while that was cuisine down on the bayou? It wasn't very edible to Ianto. The gravy pancakes actually were making his queasy.

"Um. You cooked for everyone. How .. generous of you. I don't eat much in the morning, though, I'm sorry." Thank god he didn't eat much in the morning.

Lexie hadn't come out of that room for a while. She'd taken a long, hot shower and when she'd come out she felt almost human again. She'd dried her hair, found a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She was more happy with the socks and underwear, though. She sat on that bed, staring across the room at the windowless wall. Why?

She'd smelled the Cajun cooking and it made her stomach turn. She was hungry. There were just so many people out there now. So very many people. She needed to take a few minutes, processing this gilded cage. She needed to stop thinking of Andy and Dean. Elliot and Sam. She needed to stop wondering what was happening to them. Were they in a room just like this someplace else? Or were they going through something truly terrible? Hugging her knees she just stared at the wall thinking.

Slowly she climbed from her bed and out the door into the common area, her stomach lurched at the odd combination of smells that hit her. What had he been cooking, anyway? Walking up to a cupboard she peeked inside finding it stocked with a variety of foods. Another cupboard she found some bowls, and finally she hit the motherload: Ceral. Pouring a bowl of cocoa puffs and finding a spoon she filled her bowl up with milk, taking a seat at the counter with the oversized bowl. It felt almost like a Sunday.
