WHO: Isabela & Ava
WHAT: Meeting in a dive bar!
WHERE: The city (...a dive bar)
WHEN: Tonight?
WARNINGS: TBD but probs not
STATUS: In progress (continued in comments)
Cities were noisy by nature and there was no point begrudging the fact. Crowded, especially when they weren’t missing half their population. She had grown used to that over the past several years, a sense of emptiness in every corner and the reminder that space would probably be occupied by somebody no longer there. Yet this world appeared to have the opposite problem. People showing up that did not even belong, trying to find space to fit them. Enough of a problem there was an entire apartment building occupied with people displaced from their own realities. People that claimed to have been there for almost an entire year with no actual fix. Uneasiness was a rather familiar feeling to Ava, followed her from the apartment to the streets as she shifted herself invisible to avoid being noticed, in case she ended up in areas during her exploration she probably should not be. She was not looking to get herself mixed up into any trouble so quickly, not when Captain America himself was presently claiming to be on her side. Which meant an attempt at something mimicking good behavior. Not that people in cities ever paid too much mind, always shuffling along in their own busy lives, and with her own observation it became clear she was hardly the most unusual thing about. Which made a bit of her uneasiness fade, even as she pondered over the countless unknown variables involved. By the early evening her feet were beginning to ache and all the streets were beginning to blend together, although Ava mostly blamed her worn out boots and their lack of support. Instead of turning back to the apartment she was hoping to avoid, she sought out somewhere unassuming to sit and take a break. A small bar caught her attention by how little attention it seemed to generate by anyone passing by. She peeked in, to confirm it was even open at all by the dim lights and mostly devoid of customers. The type of place to get away for a little bit. Ava remembered vaguely the offer of free drinks for new arrivals somewhere, but had no idea where that was located nor what the name of it was without checking her phone. But even without taking the effort to verify, she doubted this was it. Ava rematerialized before entering, glancing about at the possible seating locations from the limited options. And then opted to sit at the bar, because a dark corner in an already empty and dark bar felt a little too cliche even for her. When the bartender simply asked for her order, Ava froze up slightly, mind blanking as she stared back, fighting the urge to get up and walk right back out and spare herself the embarrassment. She did not go out drinking enough to have a preferred drink, and she had no idea if any of the drinks she knew of even existed here. “Um,” she attempted, to prove she was still alive, then pointed to a bottle that was already out. “Shaken not stirred.” Sometimes you just wanted a good dive bar - a place that resembled a gritty saloon, dark and shadowy save for a patch of sunlight that beamed in through a skylight to illuminate the serving station. Except now it was nighttime and there were no daytime rays to be found - much of the glow came from the old television (that was old even by Bela’s standards) and neon signs; there was a pool table and a couch as well, but sitting on it meant a risk of getting stabbed by a spring popping out and besides, it was already occupied. Isabela sat at the bar instead, observing with gold dust eyes and black hair spilled about her shoulders, kind of like how an oil spill looked beautiful in all of its destruction. Sipping on rum, all was well - she was pretending she was on a tropical island someplace, rather than an oftentimes chilly hunk of land that was still slipping away from winter’s grasp. “They’ve got one called ass juice, you know,” she shared with the newcomer, who seemed confused - well, at least she didn’t order a “Sex on the Beach” because that was just ridiculous. “No one knows what’s in it but if you’re drinking ass juice, does it even matter?” |
