The Catholic church? It's a shame because the Pope has kind of moved forward himself but the church itself still has awhile to go.

Makes sense. Maybe when the time comes you can still find a way to incorporate aspects of your faith somehow.

It's always boggled me why there were so many laws about who can marry who.

It's just the thing right? The stepping on people to feel taller bullshit. Also I'm pretty sure some straight dudes are just terrified women will stop putting up with their shit if they can comfortably marry another woman instead.

Could be. Fragile people are threatened by all sorts of things. If we were in the 60s I probably wouldn't be able to marry Allison at all.

Vallo seems like it's been on the progressive side for awhile, maybe the magic helps with that (no one's out here burning witches, etc). Which sadly isn't the case for a lot of homeworlds for people.
