Muggle Studies began with Alecto going over the subjects she had discussed earlier that week about the ways that Muggles brainwash their children. She said that sometimes we must 'put ourselves in their shoes' … Before you get surprised, she didn't mean that in a good way. She said that, while their brains are inferior, it is helpful for us to see how they are brainwashed so that we can, once the statute is formally abolished, know how to educate them.
Both years were split into groups and given a 'type' of brainwashing to role play the following week. She provided material for each subject that was assigned. For example, if your group was to show the way that a particular fairy tale brainwashed children, Alecto provided the students with the original version. The information she gave regarding religion included some verses on witchcraft from the bible. Information on costumes and art included a few Muggle photographs of either subject. The 'cinemums' gave a short synopsis of a few Muggle movies about witchcraft (badly written and probably inaccurate!). The information about sacrificing animals came in the form of pages of Muggle stories of such occurrences torn out of some random book.
