I grew up on this side of the country, so you'd think I'd be used to life out here. The weather, the people. New England's a whole different world from Philadelphia, though it's similar enough to feel like what I grew up with. Hell of a lot more similar than Wyoming, that's for sure. But it's not Wyoming. I guess I never realized that the big skies out there got under my skin the way they did until I wasn't there anymore, and I still haven't shaken it.

At least Fairharbor has the same sort of small town vibe where everyone knows who you are, and not just because you're a cop. That's something.

I think I'm going to do this in a list:

1. Chupacabras are terrifying and horrible and I hate them.
2. WHO IN ANDRASTE'S NAME INVENTED THE CHUPACABRA?
3. Cows bleed a lot.
4. Are any of you good at getting blood out of car seats? Asking for a friend.
5. That friend is Buffy.
6. Varric, I need a shower, I'm sorry about the floors ahead of time.

I would like to state for the record that no, there are no Halloween decorations at the Pie Hole.

There will be no Halloween decorations at the Pie Hole, not even on and especially not on Halloween. We will not be having a special discount for kids in costumes. We will not be playing "Monster Mash" on loop and decorating everything with cute-but-scary garlands.

The Lit Lantern will not have any jack-o-lanterns, and we won't have a candy bowl of fun-size treats for new arrivals.

The sign was put up this morning, so I guess I should make it official. On Monday I'll be back in the saddle. I'm affiliated with Fairharbor General for lab work and other tests. Office hours are 9 a.m. to noon or so, and then housecalls for the rest of the day, mostly for the elderly and anyone who isn't able to get out of the house easily. Right now it's walk-in only until I find myself a secretary.

I guess this means I'm hiring. A nurse and a secretary with experience in working with medical office software are apparently necessary to run a medical practice. I don't treat animals, unless you're below the age of 12.

Next week is Homecoming, and I am expected to take part in the festivities, culminating in a football game and the crowning of the king and queen. This isn't really something that I'm familiar with. Each day next week is themed! The teachers are encouraged to participate, and my senior homeroom class would most likely riot if I didn't. I'm fairly excited for it, although I'm not entirely certain that I really want to wear my night clothes on Wednesday.

Who will be here on Sunday for Sunday dinner? I'm doing Marilla's roast beef.

All right, show of hands which of you want to head out west and deal with something that that big exposition going on out there (Big E? whatever they call it). A bunch of goats bit it last night under some mysterious circumstances. Department will cover a motel room, but you're stuck with tickets and they won't cover any of the gratuitously fried food you'll probably get sick on.

I'd go myself, but I've got crap to do this weekend and can't get away.

So I thought that the internet had gone down, but no. It's good. It's just that there is nothing interesting. I have come to the end of the internet. What do I do?

So, who wants to come over for chicken waffles and Last Night on Earth? I told Matt he could be the zombies. Basically I need to get these briefs done and I don't wanna.

Tomorrow, it's surprise 2-for-1 slushie day at the Gas-N-Go.
