Then and Now, Knight Rider Cast - Where Are They Now?

(William Daniels should be WAY higher on that list. Like up near Hasselhoff.)

Head's up for Netflix subscribers.

[info]shadowy_flight
On July 1st, Netflix will be removing all four seasons of Knight Rider (1982-1986) from its line up. (I don't know about the 2008 series, or if they even still offer it.)

You can read the list of titles that are coming and going this summer here.

One reason why I personally prefer buying and owning DVDs./rant

Several KR-related news stories this week.

[info]luckybluestar
[info]shadowy_flight
(Most of this is courtesy of Knight Rider Archives, and Knight Rider Online.)

Sadly, we do have two deaths to report, both from the episode Short Notice. - Joe Conley (who played the motel manager where Michael and Nicole stayed at), and Dennis Berkley (Tiny). Mr. Conley died on July 7th. Mr. Berkley passed away a few days later, he was sixty-seven. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their loved ones.

In happier news:

Hallmark has released their 2013 KITT Keepsake Christmas ornament.

Hot Wheels will soon be announcing the release date for KARR in their Elite line.

Finally, a very Happy (and belated) Birthday to David Hasselhoff from all of us at Shadowy Flight!

FEENAY! FEE-HEE-HEE-NAY!

[info]luckybluestar
[info]shadowy_flight
Okay, so this isn't completely Knight Rider related. It concerns William Daniels, and that's good enough for me.

TVLine.com: Girl Meets World Scoop: It's Official — William Daniels to Return as Mr. Feeny!

(Some of the comments on the article really crack me up. "Dad! That car is Mr. Feeny!") XD

Yes. As a fan of both franchises, I am absolutely over the moon over this. I really hope we get to see Mr. Feeny on occasion. (Plus, I want to know if Shawn and Angela ever got back together.)

Any other original Knight Rider/Boy Meets World fans out there? To be honest, I've probably seen BMW as many times as I have KR, if not a tiny bit more. (Just don't let other KR fans know that.)

WHAT I LOVED

Cristina and Dr. Thomas

“Who would have thought that Cristina and Dr. Thomas (William Daniels) would become best buds? Cristina even considers him her Minnesota Meredith and that's high praise, indeed. I love their dynamic: teasing and fun but with an undercurrent of mutual respect and caring. One of my big frustrations with the show is that Cristina, despite her growth over the years, is often written as an unfeeling person who puts surgery above all else. Nothing could be further from the truth.

When Cristina Yang cares about you, she will go to the ends of the earth for you. And that's just what she did with Thomas, coming to his aid in hopes that he wouldn't be forced into retirement. I don't know how long Cristina will stay at The Clinic (I mean, she's got to come back to Seattle eventually...right?) but I love the Yang/Thomas relationship. Now if we can just bring him to Seattle, too.”

--------

I've got a friend that keeps pressuring me to watch his DVDs of Grey's. I just have too much going on right now with RL and side projects to get into yet another drama. (He was also evil in giving me the first season of Once Upon a Time. Now I won't get anything done.)

But he knew the second William Daniels came on board that I'd be watching it. (If only for his scenes.) ;)

From Entertainment Earth: The Hoff is back! Based on the 1982 TV series Knight Rider, this is the best toy KITT money can buy. Not only does it feature spinning wheels and opening doors, it has lights and sounds, too. But wait, there's more! It's a limited edition, roughly 13-inch long vehicle based on a 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am that's compatible with many 3 3/4-inch scale action figures. And we included one! Get your very own 3 3/4-inch David Hasslehoff as Michael Knight Action Figure... available only in this set!

Wow! That may look nothing like the Hoff, but check out the detail that went into him. O.O

I agree with those who said it in comments. I hope if it talks, it'll have William Daniels' voice, like the Kenner KITT does.

Knight Rider creator/producer, Glen Larson, sues NBC Universal.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, credited to the Foundation.

Legendary television producer Glen Larson has sued Universal claiming he was cheated out of millions of dollars in profits from some of the most iconic shows of the 1970s and ‘80s.

Larson, who presided over a remarkable run of hits including Knight Rider, Six Million Dollar Man, Magnum P.I., Battlestar Galactica and other shows, filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday. In a complaint obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, he alleges a decades-long fraud perpetrated by a studio that never once sent him profit participation statements despite his shows earning hundreds of millions of dollars.

“Indeed, as the shows make more money for Universal, the deficit that Larson Productions must overcome continually increases,” the complaint states. “It’s Hollywood’s version of being a sharecropper.”

We’ve reached out to Universal for comment and will update with a response. UPDATE: An NBCU spokesman sends us this comment:

"We are surprised that Mr. Larson has brought this lawsuit. He has been well compensated for his work on Universal's shows. Mr. Larson did not conduct any audit or otherwise notify Universal of any claim in advance of this filing. We have not seen the lawsuit."

Larson began his long relationship with Universal in 1975. His deals entitled him to “net profits” from his shows.

Universal was “aware that they manipulated the accounting in such a manner that made it impossible for Larson Productions to ever receive contingent compensation from the television shows in the ordinary course of business,” the complaint states.

Jack Klugman, star of the Larson-produced show Quincy, M.E., also has sued Universal over profits.

The complaint alleges causes of action for breach of contract, declaratory relief, accounting, restitution for unjust enrichment, money due on open book account, conversion, fraud, negligent misrepresentation and unfair business practices.

Larson is represented by Neville Johnson, Douglas Johnson and James Ryan of Johnson and Johnson in Beverly Hills.

KITT makes another Top Ten list of Greatest TV Cars.

[info]luckybluestar
[info]shadowy_flight
At autos.msn.com.

He came in last at #10. (Boo!) But at least the comments are positive.

10. 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from “Knight Rider”

"You knew it was coming. It's impossible to compile a list of great TV cars without including the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT). The talking, smarter-than-the-Hoff Firebird Trans Am was the embodiment of all we thought possible in the '80s — at least as far as sentient transportation was concerned. With an arsenal of crime-fighting technology on board and a super-cool "Turbo Boost" option, the car could vault over obstacles, drive through a hail of bullets and generally thwart the bad guys at every turn. While it doesn't stack up well against the competition on our list, the fact that the car's scanning, red LED light still makes it into the aftermarket is proof positive that KITT left an indelible mark on car fans everywhere."
