R.I.P., Tina Turner

My dad was a fan. He would play her HBO concert. 'What's Love Got To Do With It' was his favorite. When I was very young, he told me the story of how she escaped an abusive husband and made it on her own. I know it may be hard for younger generations to believe, but people didn't really openly talk about abusive relationships until Tina's story came out, let alone leave them.

And while the songs on the show were cover versions, we Knight Rider fans grew up knowing Tina Turner's music as well. 'Proud Mary' is one of the first things you hear in the pilot episode of the original. 'What's Love Got To Do With It' was featured in S3. Michael and RC3's characters were big fans of hers. (S4)

My favorite (cover) in the show was 'We Don't Need Another Hero'. (KITT, destroyed by the juggernaut, and being rebuilt in secret. Michael, pretty much left on his own to find Devon, stop the bad guys, and save the Foundation.) The song fits this episode perfectly.

Tina Turner was an incredible presence on stage and screen. She inspired and opened doors for many artists that would come after. She both earned and deserved the title 'Queen of Rock and Roll'.
